tens of thousands of files in Zope var directory
by Tim Edwards 22 Dec '03

22 Dec '03

Hi all, We have 75,000 to 80,000 .png, .jpg and .wmf files in the Zope var directory. Where do these files come from? Are they something to do with the cache? If so how do we clean them out - there couldn't be more than 20 or 30 seperate images on our whole site and the 75,000 to 80,000 are making it difficult to backup the site. We are running Zope 2.6.2 with Plone 1.0.5. We are using a cache manager for our site. not authorised to access this resource
by Matt Carey 21 Dec '03

21 Dec '03

sorry if this is a simple question... i have some restricted folders in a zope site and i'm using acl_users and roles to control access. when the username and password box comes up and someone hits cancel, zope(?) generates the following line of text: you are not authorised to access this resource. username and password are not correct. my problem is the code it generates: <strong>you are not authorised to access this resource.</strong><p> username and password are not correct. the text is fine, but when it goes into my dtml page it is playing havoc with my layout and css. where can i find this error message so i can amend the html tags? cheers matt

persistent form variables and user login
by cheng saimun 21 Dec '03

21 Dec '03

Right now, i would like to solve some doubts in this area. I have a few folders eg. folders A, B, C ) in my website and each folder has an acl_users folder storing the users allowed to access the particular folder. Also I have a acl_users folder at my root to contain all the users which i have registered for this website. Yes, the users in this acl_users folder are the users in A,B ,C. Using cookiecrumbler, i have a login form for the user to login by checking against this acl_users at root. My questions lie here: 1. After logging in, the user will click on the link ( which is folder A), which contains a form which the authorized user can select the conditions and save this report. 2. I understand that using ZODB (outside of zope framework) can do the job in storing the variables. But how do I associate this user with the variables? What is the code used to find out what the login user at folder A is? 3. It seems that using zodb, that's very few how-tos within the zope framework itself especially when i need to do a persistent data storing for a user. -- ___________________________________________________________ Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm

ANN: Epoz 0.7.2 released - ready for Plone 2
by Maik Jablonski 21 Dec '03

21 Dec '03

Hi, I've just released an improved version of Epoz... Many css-fixes regarding the use of Epoz in Plone 2 and other important bug fixes (see changes below). What is Epoz? Epoz is a cross-browser-wysiwyg-editor for Zope/Plone. Epoz supports IE >= 5.5, Mozilla >= 1.3, Netscape >= 7.1, Firebird >= 0.7 and other gecko-based browsers. Where can I see a demo? http://www.zfl.uni-bielefeld.de/personal/mjablonski/epoz Where can I download Epoz? http://www.zope.org/Members/mjablonski/Epoz What is changed in 0.7.2? - changed toolbox-icon into a folder; link-icon and toolbox-icon were to similar before. - added remove-format-button; this can be useful if you want to remove several text-formats at once. Maybe someone can provide a better icon? Please note: IE is a little bit smarter than Mozilla. IE removes colors as well... - made some css-fixes for using Epoz with tableless layout in Plone 2: - removed nowrap-style around epoz_toolbox; - changed toolbox-width in wysiwyg_support from absolute px to relative percentage, so Epoz won't break the layout anymore; - made widget xhtml-compatible. Please note: Epoz uses the Plone-CSS to render the content. The Plone-CSS doesn't allow other alignments then left-aligned for paragraphs and so clicking on the Epoz-alignment-buttons shows no effect in Plone. Please don't mail me about this... fix the Plone-CSS (remove 'text-align: left;' from p-defintion in plone.css). - removed break_before_br in EpozTidy to keep pre-formatted text in order. - fixed bug: Stefanie Panke noticed encoding problems when using the Euro-Sign. Switched all default encodings from ISO-8859-1 to more universal windows-1252. Thanks, Stefanie! - fixed bug: Casey Duncan from Zope Corporation tracked down a subtle bug in the product initialisation process of Epoz. Short story: Registering a product and a method with the same name (Epoz) can cause conflicts under some circumstances (esp. running test-suites in Zope 2.7 etc.). Now Epoz is marked as __replaceable__. Thanks, Casey!!! - fixed bug: removed hardcoded protocol (http:) in XMLRPC-call; Epoz over https: should now work again. Thanks to Gabriel Wicke for his complaints! Keep zoped, Maik Jablonski -- German Zope User Group / Deutsche Zope User Group http://www.dzug.org/

Re: [Zope] Storing and Returning variables when user logins again

Thanks..it allows me to start off somewhere. Re: [Zope] Refreshing modules imported into external methods
by Michael Hartl 21 Dec '03

21 Dec '03

Thanks for the responses to my question. > Have you tried this? Go to its manage page and hit 'Save changes'. > Running Zope in debug mode (-D) may help too but I'm not sure. Unfortunately, neither of those things worked. > create a refreshing External Method that uses Python's "reload" to reload > modules This worked. It seems strange from a Python perspective, since there's no need to use "reload" inside ordinary programs; Python automatically re-imports any code that has changed. The "reload" function is ordinarily only useful when working interactively with the interpreter. But it works beautifully in this case. Returning to my previous example: external method file foo.py (located in /path_to_Zope/Extensions): import bar def foo(): reload(bar) # Reload module 'bar' as per Dieter's suggestion. return 'foo' + bar.baz() Python module bar.py (located on my PYTHONPATH): def baz(): return 'bar' Now changes to bar.py are reflected immediately in calls to foo(), without restarting Zope. Thanks again, Michael ===== Michael Hartl http://www.michaelhartl.com/ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New Yahoo! Photos - easier uploading and sharing. http://photos.yahoo.com/

Storing and Returning variables when user logins again
by cheng saimun 21 Dec '03

21 Dec '03

Hi I have the following situation. In my webbie, each registered user who logs in can generate a report by selecting 6 query conditions in a form( from 6 dropdowns lists queried from mysql table). He can also choose to save the conditions as a reportname so that the next time he logs in, he can view the report by clicking on the saved link, without selecting the conditions again. May I know how should i go about doing this in storing and retrieving the saved reports when the user logins again? thanks -- ___________________________________________________________ Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm

Hi, in our tests ZCatalog don't work well with Localizer, zcatalog don't evaluate DTML. Is there a way to catalog multilingual sites? Website For Computer User Group (CUG)
by Tom Purl 20 Dec '03

20 Dec '03

I am the new volunteer webmaster for a small computer user group (CUG), and I've been charged with doing a major redesign. I would like to use some Zope-related product like CMF or Plone, but I don't know which one is best for me. I basically want a site where users can do the following: - download (and maybe upload) CUG presentations and other documents - Discuss tech news - Ask other members about technical problems that they're having. Also, I would like all of the users to register, but I would like to make that process as easy as possible. Having said all that, what's the best option? Squishdot looks nice, but does anyone have experience doing something similar with Plone or CMF? I'm assuming that this type of question gets asked fairly regularly, but I looked online for a couple of hours and couldn't find an answer. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! passing a variable from one form to another
by Kate Legere 20 Dec '03

20 Dec '03

I have a form that opens up, gets date and location from the user and then calls an sql method to insert a row with those parameters into a table in the database. It also pops open a persistant window with another form to collect statistics from the user. This all works well. The pop-up form calls a sql method and updates the information in the row created above. I want to pass the date and location to the pop-up form so that the user only has to select these the first time (I'll leave a cookie to remember). How do I do this - I've been using REQUEST but don't seem to be finding the right syntax. Kate
