xml rpc

>From the document at http://www.zope.org/Members/teyc/howxmlrpc I deduce that zope has the ability to work as an xmlrpc server. Rv: [BULK] - Re: [Zope] delete catalog entry by rid
by Yurj 06 Dec '03

An idea: put a "fast" updates, that check only if the object exists, not reindexing it. If it does not exists, it will be removed in the catalog. --------- Messaggio Originale -------- Da: Dieter Maurer <dieter(a)handshake.de> Per: Carrer Yuri <yurj(a)alfa.it> Cc: zope(a)zope.org Oggetto: [BULK] - Re: [Zope] delete catalog entry by rid Data: 04/12/03 07:54 > > Carrer Yuri wrote at 2003-12-3 11:17 +0100: > > I've the rid of an unexistent object in the catalog. Apache2 mod_proxy question
by Jack Coates 06 Dec '03

06 Dec '03

Hi all, Finally switched to Apache2, and predictably enough it broke my setup. I use name-based virtual hosts, I define some handy directories for non-Zope stuff, and then I stick in some ProxyPass statements to pass the remaining requests into Zope. Example: <VirtualHost *> ServerAdmin webmaster(a)monkeynoodle.org DocumentRoot /var/www/monkeynoodle ServerName www.monkeynoodle.org ServerAlias monkeynoodle.org www.monkeynoodle.org felix.monkeynoodle.org CustomLog logs/monkeynoodle-log combined ServerSignature Email <Directory "/var/www/monkeynoodle"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all ErrorDocument 404 /cgi-bin/error_404.cgi </Directory> Alias /manual/ "/var/www/manual/" <Directory /var/www/manual/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None order deny, allow deny from all allow from 198.144.201.9 127.0.0.1 192.168.1.1 </Directory> <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteLog "/var/log/httpd/monkeynoodle-rewrite_log" RewriteLogLevel 1 # Send the worms back home RewriteRule ^.*\.(exe|ida|dll).* http://127.0.0.1/$1 </IfModule> <IfModule mod_proxy.c> # Zope-related statements ProxyPass / http://192.168.1.1:9673/mn/ ProxyPassReverse / http://192.168.1.1:9673/mn/ ProxyPass /misc_ http://192.168.1.1:9673/misc_ ProxyPass /p_ http://192.168.1.1:9673/p_ </IfModule> </VirtualHost> Since upgrading, Zope continues to work, but all the other directory configuration is ignored. Just asking here since I know there's a lot of proxypass users, I'll post the answer if I find it first. -- Jack at Monkeynoodle Dot Org: It's A Scientific Venture... ********************************************************************** * "Won't you take me far away from the mucky-muck now!" * * -- Wonderboy by Tenacious D * **********************************************************************

RE: [Zope] Another Python Script Question
by Tim Zegir 06 Dec '03

06 Dec '03

Well its getting closer. If I use this For object in context.myscript Try: Context.myscript2 Except: Try: Print error except NameError, e: print e return e I catch the 'print error' error (because it is not defined) NOT the original try error. If I use for object in context.myscript: try: context.myscript2 except NameError, e: print e return printed it does not catch the error at all and brings up the default zope error message. If I use for object in context.myscript: try: context.myscript2 except: print 'an error has happoned' return printed I get the behaviour I want but without the error description :) Thank you all for your help so far. -----Original Message----- From: Dan Pierson [mailto:dan@control.com] Sent: Friday, 5 December 2003 1:21 PM To: Tim Zegir Subject: RE: [Zope] Another Python Script Question Look in a Python manual :-) The try statement is as follows: try: something except <exception type>, <var to hold exception info>: exception handling code E.G.: try: print error except NameError, e: print e Which will print the error you just got... Unfortunately, except without an exception type doesn't let you get info on the exception. This isn't really too bad because you should use "naked excepts" VERY rarely -- usually at the top level of a UI, because they are likely to catch things you really didn't want to catch. You should usually understand what the expected exception types are and catch them explicitly. ZPT reading a file
by Jay Dorsey 06 Dec '03

06 Dec '03

This is probably a simple task, but its giving me a heck of a time. I've got a folder with some files in it. I'm using a PageTemplate to loop through the folder and pull the attributes of the templates out. I've got something like this: <div tal:repeat="item sorted_objects"> <div tal:content="item/title">title here</div> <div tal:content="item/title">author here</div> <div tal:content="structure item">content here</div> </div> The PageTemplates originally contained HTML, but I'm not so stuck on it that I can't use Structured Text instead (it doesn't seem to me that there is an html option for tal:content tags). Regardless of whether I use "structure" or "text", the content comes back as text when I view the page. I'm assuming this is because I'm accessing the item incorrectly. What would be the easiest way to get the content out of each item and use either structured text or just keep the HTML as well? Zope is just killing me right now--if this was plain ol' python I would have a look at dir(item) to see if there was a special attribute or method I needed. Thankfully I'm just learning zope on my own time, else I'd feel horribly useless instead of only terribly so ;-) The documentation seems lacking on the website, and on the net in general, as far as basic "heres how you do X" goes. Zopelabs is good, and one or two other sites I've found, but I know this has to be a really easy task. I appreciate any assistance. -- Jay Dorsey jay at jaydorsey dot com

Returning database results similar to google search
by Lyz＠PrincessLeia.com 06 Dec '03

06 Dec '03

I'm fairly new to Zope, I have been searching for a number of hours on my most recent dilemma. I have a database that's full of information I'd like to return. I created a Z SQL method to select * from table, and using <dtml-in ...> I can return all the results I need, but there are too many. I'd like to only show 5 at a time, then have a links at the bottom so you can jump to database results 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, etc (much like at the bottom of a google results page). I need these links to be generated dynamically (the database grows weekly), dependent on how many results I have from the database. I have come up with a number of ideas, but they are primarily "unsuccessful hacks" ... is there a good "Zopeish way" I can acomplish this, or at least point me in the right direction? Thanks. -- Elizabeth K. // Lyz(a)PrincessLeia.com http://www.princessleia.com http://www.wallaceandgromit.net

print
by Andre Meyer 05 Dec '03

Hi All In a file-system-based product, when I print some output in a Python method, where does the output go? There is no command line output as far as I can see. It would be nice to at least print some results when things go wrong. Any ideas? thanks André
