Newbie: db handling question

Hello , As you write in this week, the DA is commit/rollback automatically. If an error occured, the zope shows it's error page, and I can redefine it. This way is good to the normal web pages, but not too good for others. If I want catch these errors, and show, then two problem I get: try: apply set error=0 except: set error=1 The html page is structured to when error is 1, then it is show normal page with little red errormessage - and it's don't use zope's error page. - In this case I catch the exception, but because not raised again, the DA transaction is committed, not rollbacked. It is wanted to call the rollback directly. - I don't have the exception's errormessage, only if I use traceback module. Can I use that normally in threaded app like Zope ? Thanx for any answers !!! And thanx for answers before this email. -- Best regards, fowlertrainer mailto:fowlertrainer@anonym.hu

Releasing the database connection after processing a request
by Florian Reiser 04 Dec '03

Hello Zopistas, from time to time, I have to access my database exclusive. So I shutdown zope, do my database work, and then start zope. Can I convince Zope to release the database connection each time, it has processed a request successfully? So I won't have to shutdown zope to do my administration work? Regards Florian Reiser

Charlie: I run Zope on the Debian platform and I can honestly tell you that Debian is always the way to go for the most stable and secure Linux systems. At least IMHO it is. No flaming please :) LOL! Re: passing context using expr="dtml_method()"?

Maik, Thanks for your help. I had actually seen the section of the book you referenced and was trying to pass it as : <dtml-var expr="mymethod(_)"> instead of passing it as <dtml-var expr="mymethod(None, _)"> or <dtrml-var expr="mymethod(callingDoc)">. Thanks for your help in pointing me back to this section and understanding it. jpw Maik wrote: >John Withers wrote: > > Newbieish question. > >Please read the Zope-Book for self-answering newbiesih questions. > ><http://zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition>http://zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition > > > When I am calling a dtml method using a dtml tag such as <dtml-var > > mymethod> it appears to pass the namespace of the calling document. > > > > However, when I am calling a dtml method using the expr syntax, such as > > <dtml-var expr="mymethod()"> it doesn't. > >Taken from the Zope-Book: ><http://zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/ScriptingZope.stx>http://zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/ScriptingZope.stx > >"""Note that DTML Methods and Documents take optional client and REQUEST >parameters. We built it from source. It's rock solid stable and we even built a couple of start and stop scripts into the mix for our configuration which makes things really easy to admin. -----Original Message----- From: Terry Hancock [mailto:hancock@anansispaceworks.com] Sent: Thursday, December 04, 2003 3:13 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Cc: kittonian(a)macgenius.net Subject: Re: [Zope] RedHat Alternative... At least IMHO it is. No flaming please :) LOL! Do you run with the Debian "zope" package, or one installed from source? I've been doing the latter for some time. The Debian "zope" package seems really non-standard to me (probably in the interest of preserving FHS). I find that really disconcerting, and have not tried to really understand how the Debian installation is setup. Actually this is my development machine I'm thinking of -- my production site runs on FreeBSD (but I didn't pick that). Re: Zope and Frames (was Re: [Zope] ZPT and CSS)
by Andre Meyer 04 Dec '03

Hi again As Tino says, this is not about frames per se, but in a <frameset> you need to specify the framed pages. Therefore you need a reference and that should be done in the __init__.py. Or is there another possibility? Of course, the need to specify all references to pages and images in __init__.py is not convenient, particularly when you already have a database and need to recreate an instance of your product. (btw this applies to a filesystem-based approach). ======================================================================== Here is what I have in my __init__.py: __doc__ = """Music Library initialisation module""" __version__ = '0.1' import mlib import Piece import Composer from ImageFile import ImageFile from Products.PageTemplates.PageTemplateFile import PageTemplateFile misc_ = { 'mlib.css':ImageFile('zpt/mlib.css', globals()), 'mlibPrint.css':ImageFile('zpt/mlibPrint.css', globals()), 'index_top':ImageFile('zpt/index_top.zpt', globals()), 'index_bottom':PageTemplateFile('zpt/index_bottom', globals()), } def initialize(context): ... ======================================================================== http://localhost:8080/music/misc_/mlib/index_top This returns the zpt page unprocessed. ======================================================================== http://localhost:8080/music/misc_/mlib/index_bottom This zpt page can be rendered without problems in the usual way (linked from another zpt page), but when accessed as above it returns the following error page: Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. exceptions.AttributeError Sorry, a site error occurred. Traceback (innermost last): * Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 150, in publish_module * Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 114, in publish * Module Zope.App.startup, line 162, in zpublisher_exception_hook AttributeError: Misc_ instance has no attribute '__error_log__' ________________________________________________________________________ Troubleshooting Suggestions * The URL may be incorrect. * The parameters passed to this resource may be incorrect. * A resource that this resource relies on may be encountering an error. RE: [Zope] My first question.
by Goldthwaite, Joe 04 Dec '03

Ok I'll look into the METAL stuff. I skimmed over it but it looked confusing and didn't seem to apply to my current problems. I guess it's time to give it another look-see. By the way, I checked my line and it does have the structure statement in. Here's the page; <html> <head> <title tal:content="template/title">The title</title> </head> <body> <h2><span tal:condition="template/title" tal:replace="template/title">optional template id</span></h2> *** <span tal:replace="structure here/IS_YTD_Header"></span> *** <tr tal:repeat="item python:here.GetISLines(FY=request.FY, Per=request.Per, OrgType=request.OrgType, OrgNo=request.OrgNo)"> <td tal:content="item/desc">desc</td> <td tal:content="item/YtdCurrent" style="text-align: right"></td> <td tal:content="item/YtdLastYear" style="text-align: right"></td> <td tal:content="item/YtdPlan" style="text-align: right"></td> <td tal:content="item/YtdPcntVariance" style="text-align: right"></td> <td tal:content="item/YtdPcntVariancePlan" style="text-align: right"></td> <td tal:content="item/YtdVariance" style="text-align: right"></td> <td tal:content="item/YtdVariancePlan" style="text-align: right"></td> </tr> <span tal:replace="structure here/IS_Ptd_Footer"></span> </body> </html> The highlights show the standard header that is a separate ZPT. I misspoke when I said that the result comes out quoted. The header comes out looking beautiful. It's the rest of the document that gets quoted. If I change IS_YTD_Header with IS_Ptd_Header, the non-header part of the page comes out correct. The only difference is the IS_YTD_Header is a ZPT and IS_Ptd_Header is a DTML method. Can someone explain that??? DTML and ZPT are completely different. > so I created a ZPT with the name IS_YTD_Header and used > that in the tal replace command but the result came back as HTML quoted > text instead of the actual HTML. Anyone know what I'm missing? Yes. Output of tal statements is normally html quoted. You probably left out the "structure" directive: <span tal:replace="structure here/IS_YTD_Header"></span> > It doesn't look like ZPT is designed to work this way. For my footer, > (for now) I just have the </table> tag to finish my table. The ZPT > gives me a mismatched tag error. Right. Each Page TEmplate is normally required to be valid XML. You *can* disable this. I forget how because I never do it :-) But it's in the zope book, first Page TEmplates chapter. > What's the best way to modularize > the web pages? METAL.
