ZSQL unit testing with gadfly?
by Terry Hancock 08 Dec '03

08 Dec '03

Well, I am continuing my learning process with the unit-testing concept using ZopeTestCase. I need to test a product that in real-life uses a MySQL database connection, managed entirely by ZSQL methods. For unit-testing, I really should create a "toy" database. I'm presently thinking that it would be smarter to use Zope's built-in gadfly / ZGadflyDA support. Has anyone else done this before? Are there caveats I should be aware of? Is it an unsafe idea to test with Gadfly, when I'm probably going to be using MySQL in production? Is there anything special about loading a DB connection in ZTC? corrupted Data.fs
by Dennis Allison 08 Dec '03

Something appears to have corrupted one of my Data.fs files. Rather than being at the end of the file it's in the middle, the diagnostic being CorruptedTransactionError: .../zope/instances/chi/var/Data.fs data record exceeds transaction record at 95261 Examining the Data.fs with fsrecover.py shows the problem: : remove regular file `Data.fs'? y 1670 1186 error copying transaction: global name 'file' is not defined looking for valid txn header at 1014987 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1014987 looking for valid txn header at 1016294 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1016294 looking for valid txn header at 1016998 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1016998 looking for valid txn header at 1017238 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1017238 looking for valid txn header at 1017876 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1017876 looking for valid txn header at 1018033 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1018033 looking for valid txn header at 1018189 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1018189 looking for valid txn header at 1018641 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1018641 looking for valid txn header at 1018749 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1018749 looking for valid txn header at 1018852 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1018852 looking for valid txn header at 1018932 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1018932 looking for valid txn header at 1019383 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1019383 looking for valid txn header at 1019514 error reading txn header: invalid transaction length, 0, at 1019514 looking for valid txn header at 1019640 although the indexes don't quite match. This is being done under Zope 2.6.2b3. RH9SMP, Athlon processors, and Python 2.1.3. The problem (question) is how to recover as much of the Data.fs as possible. Here the trick of truncation does not work. The problem is near the middle of the file... Suggestions? Google didn't turn up much of anything useful.

Site map of the remote ZServer
by Klimovich Alexander 08 Dec '03

08 Dec '03

Hi there, Need a solution for this problem: There are several ZServers over Inet. My task is to build site maps of those ZServers from current host (of course with ZServer too)? When site map is needed only for localhost dtml-tree works nice, but what to do in case of remote ZServer? Have any ideas? Thanks, Alexander Klimovich

kill LONG request and manage_main DoS?
by Jaroslav Lukesh 08 Dec '03

08 Dec '03

Dear all, today I was look to my zope linux server and see that have one long running process (10 days!) and one python process consume me near 100% of CPU power. I was manage this page 10 days before. Does somebody know how to kill this request? It is safe to kill PID of this process, or is possible to kill request at zope level? I dont want to restart my zope server. And in other side, calling manage_main for some kind of objects is not pure safe? I was encounter problems with calling manage_main to ZipFolder and DTML documents (it tooks few minutes via modem and downloads from server few MB). Many thanks, J. Thanks for responding, even though it was an incorrect mailing list. Fantastic answers! Just in your message, sounds like I'll give Zope a try. I hope the learning curve for Python isn't very steep. Very impressed with the features and even more so with the support (i.e. mailinglist) and documentation! Again, my thanks! -----Original Message----- From: Lennart Regebro [mailto:regebro@nuxeo.com] Sent: Monday, December 08, 2003 10:18 AM To: Aaron Paxson Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope-dev] Newbie Question Aaron Paxson wrote: > I'm currently learning Java, and was starting to learn the RedHat Web > Application Framework. Java's is sligthly better optimized and therefore faster, although not significantly so in this case. Pythons bytecode compilr is "just-in-time" however, so you never need to compile anything, you just run it. This in combination with the above dynamicism gives cool development features like automatic refresh of the Products. You change the code, and refresh the webpage, and your code is automatically recompiled, the old code thrown out and the new one sucked in. And you don't need to make one single compile command. This, together with Pythons clear and explicit structure and Zopes OODB storage makes development times very low. > but what of it's objects and packages? Personally, I use Linux From Scratch (www.linuxfromscratch.org) for all my production systems. Takes longer to build a "distro" but then you get exactly what you want, configured how you want it, and without all of the baggage. Sean
