Using ZServer with Apache

All, I have a Zope.cgi with INSTANCE_NAME that points to where I keep my database, but when I run ZServer with the following: python z2.py -p /home/httpd/cgi-bin/at/Zope.cgi -2 -w "" it's still referring to the var directory at the Zope installation instead of the one at INSTANCE_NAME. How do I get this to work? Making zope work with ad serving software

First of all, thank you to everyone who's expressed interest in helping us with the EliteFitness.com project! We've been using a piece of ad serving software called Central Ad Pro. It can be invoked via two mechanisms...  -or- <img src="http://mydomain.com/cgi-bin/getimage.cgi/unique?ACCOUNT=my_account&BANN ER=my_banner"></a> Now, if you want to serve an HTML "banner", you have to you use the SSI mechanism... at least until we all have XML capable browsers and their fancy X-LINKS <g> My question is, what is an analogous way to embed the output of a CGI into a page served by Zope that will let us generate "useful" web logs? I read the thread about pulling the links off LinuxToday, so I understand that there are HTTP getting functions. I'm sure it's do-able, my main concern is that we're still able to analyze the click-through ratios of the banners! This makes me think we will have to use Zope with Apache. Is PCGI mutually exclusive with mod_perl? We already have mod_perl compiled into Apache since it servers another (non-Zope) site on the same machine. Summary: revoking authentication

Thanks to everybody who answered my question; I have gotten everything *almost* to the point I need. The problem, remember, was that I needed to be able to explicitly "log out" users of a Zope-powered site. The normal "basic" authentication mechanism does not allow for that - once the browser has its grip on your username and password, it doesn't let go until the browser restarts. (Which, with the 4.6 Netscape I just installed, is generally within about 15 minutes, but I digress...grumble...) The solution: get the unsupported UserDB product from http://www.zope.org/Download/Unsupported and install it. UserDB will authenticate users from an SQL database, which works well for my application. But, more to the point, it can be set up to use cookies for authentication purposes. Cookies can be reset from the server, thus allowing a "log out" capability. To allow users to log themselves out, simply give them a link to "acl_users/logout" and it happens. (NOT acl_users/docLogout, as suggested by one person - that looks like it works, but does not). The next thing to do is to add an expiration to the cookies, which I have not yet done. That deals with the "they forgot to log out" case - something that has been known to happen every year or so. Only one problem remains: I've not yet found a way to enable UserDB authentication in the top-level folder. Trying to set up UserDB there brings a complaint that acl_users already exists; Zope, however, will not let you delete acl_users from the top-level folder. Deleting folders

can anyone pleeeeaaaaseee tell me the correct syntax for deleting a folder in Zope. I would like to click on a link which passes through the id of the folder to delete. Is this possible and what is the code to do it???? Having said this, while I think that SMB and NFS are interesting ideas, both have their own SERIOUS problems that are difficult to overcome. If you wish to undertake this, you should look at what hoops have to be jumped through to get FTP working... sorta. If you're using Windows machines, you should investigate IE5+WebDAV (which is called Web Folders)... this might be of some help. I've gotten a little further an this problem, if you be interested. I managed to at least get a DLL out of ExtensionClass.o without getting tons of reference errors. What I did was first copy the file libpython1.5.a for my python lib directory to the directory with ExtensionClass.o. Then I ran the following: dllwrap -o ExtensionClass.dll ExtensionClass.o libpython1.5.a The resulting DLL is a bit hefty- about 2MB, which isn't too surprising as this about the size of my libpython1.5.a. I'm not too sure how to proceed from this point. I think I'll have to go check a little more carefully how things build on my Linux system and try to recreate that here -or- try and do something like with the Zope+Win32 source patch which creates an executable that calls a 'specialized' DLL containing python+Zope extensions. Sorry, in incoherent mode after spending much of day trying various stuff trying to get this to work. Hope this all makes sense and provides a little extra mileage... False -- Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 supports char and varchar fields up to 8000 characters in size. Anything above that you use text, ntext, or image. To answer the poster's question, Zope/Python strings are _not_ limited to ~256 characters. I have successfully inserted large amounts of data in MSSQL image fields (which is a pain but works), although I don't recall if I ever pushed anything about 256 into a varchar field. The protection against deleting them is hardwired into Zope. This is unlikely to change. The top level user folder however, can be deleted (in 2.0 and the latest CVS). This can be a Bad Thing (tm) if you don't have access to the superuser password, because due to Acquisition and the design of the authentication system, the entire site is locked out! Easily including external HTML file?

Greetings! I've been lurking for a bit and have appreciated the tips and ideas I've picked up on the list. But now I have a question. In one of my pages, I would like to pull in the latest stories from Linux Today. They explain what to do at: http://linuxtoday.com/linkus.html All I would like to do is pull the following file into the middle of a DTML document: http://linuxtoday.com/backend/lthead.inc Now I frequently did this before with Apache and server-side includes, but I can't figure out exactly how to do this using DTML. In looking around zope.org, I found the contributed external method for pulling in items from Slashdot.org: http://www.zope.org/Download/Contrib/slashdot.py And while that works... and I could sit and modify the python to have it go pull in the LinuxToday info... I just find myself sitting here thinking there's got to be a better way to do this! All I want to do is pull in the LT file... no formatting or anything else. Any ideas you have will be appreciated. Revoking authentication (or: logging out)?

I'm working on a system to make medical records available via a web interface. It needs to make different levels of access available to different sorts of people (doctors, nurses, clerical staff) - a perfect match for Zope's roles. But I've encountered one rub: the web browser will be running on PC's sitting in various spots in the clinic's offices: the doctor's office, work areas, even examination rooms. There will be a different person sitting down at it every few minutes. But, with "Basic" authentication, once the web browser has your username/password in its clutches, it never lets go. We're dealing with medical records here, so it is a poor idea to leave a "logged in" browser sitting around in a public place. What I am looking for is a way to put in a "log out" option that stops short of killing and restarting the browser. Has anybody else figured out a way to do this?
