Zope 2 binaries for Win32

Is there any way of getting the binaries for Zope 2? I don't have Visual C to compile the source and would love to run Zope 2 an test it out. BTW, any news on when the final release would be available? Any good guess? -aem

Datetime overflow error

Help!! I have created two SQL Methods which will prompt users for dates (among other variables) and ideally will return jobs between those dates. When I test these two Methods I get "datetime overflow error". The dates are stored in our informix database as ddmmyy and yyyy-mm-dd 0:00. Would appreciate any advice on how to get this to work ... Which raises the issue of whether perhaps -- as much as it's an excellent tool for documentation -- FrameMaker is the ideal tool to use here. creating ZClasses with external method

I still cannot create ZClasses with an external method (using aquisition) Since I can do it with ZPublisher.Client and by typing in a URL into my browser, but not via an external method, this is really seeming like a bug. Should I report this to Collector? Hey, If you don't mind messing around with mingw/cygwin you can almost build out of the box for the Zope alpha source releases. I would put the information on how to do that here but, as is depressingly usual, I don't have that data quite handy. If you are feeling a bit fearless I can do a quick write up for you of what I did to get this all to work. It's just a matter of downloading some stuff and making a few small changes to some Python code. Note also that Anthony Pfrunder has done awesome work on getting Zope alphas to compile under Windows. I believe his distribution (check the mailing list for the URL, again my memory is woefully inadequate) contains the binaries/pyd's needed to run Zope. You will need to grab his distribution anyway because it contains patches that are a must have (use? apply?) for whatever compiler you use on Windows. I was about to send a patch for spelling errors in the content manager's guide, but then I realized that the original was written in FrameMaker and isn't accessable to me. Someone definitely has to push the spell-check button on these pages. Thanks Bruce

Mike, It probably a bad idea to try to use manage_afterAdd as a handy constructor - the manage_afterAdd and manage_beforeDelete methods are currently a lightweight solution for the fact that there is no "event model" in Zope, but often objects will want to perform some extra activities when they are added/deleted (such as add or remove themselves from Catalogs). The manage_afterAdd, in particular, could get you in trouble, since it will also be called whenever an object cut/copied and pasted to a new location. In that case the construction logic would almost certainly not be appropriate, and could actually run without raising an error, but re-initializing and wiping out the existing data in your object in the process. :( In general, the manage_afterAdd and manage_beforeDelete protocol should be thought of as hooks for fixing up or cleaning up the environment of an object on add/delete/cut/copy/paste events (registering and unregistering with Catalogs, etc.).
