Hi all! The version of Zope located at: http://student.uq.edu.au/~s341625 Works without errors on the following components: * ZClasses I am currently writing a Banner ZClass under Zope Win32 and so far ZClasses appear to work perfectly. * ALL contributed Products including SquishDot. * Has NO database corruption errors or errors in the management screens. Note that using a Linux Data.fs can cause weird problems (I didn't bother chasing this up). The catch is that you _MUST_ install it as described in the PCBuild\README.txt file otherwise it _WILL NOT_ work properly. Stuff to come... ---------------- Within the next few weeks I'll be releasing an extension patch to allow the use of the Python Imaging Library and OpenGL with Zope. These extensions will allow the creation of Banner Wizards like that available at: http://www.mediabuilder.com/ I think that they would be a 'cool' addition to the upcoming ZPortel kit. Errors *allways* have tracebacks by their nature, they are Python exceptions. If this is all you are getting, then somwhere in your DTML you are not correctly calling the object above, and the DTML parser is just repr()ing the object. For example, if you iterated over a bunch of subfolders:    You would get: <Folder instance at XXXXXX> <Folder instance at XXXXXX> <Folder instance at XXXXXX> <Folder instance at XXXXXX> . . . This is because the DTML parser sees that you have just put  (which is an object) in the output, and since it doesn't know what to do with this object, it simple repr()s it. Help - Database Connection String

I have successfully installed Zope 1.10.3 , MySQL 3.21.31 and ZMySQLDA 1.1.3 on Linux Mandrake 5.2. Zope is working fine. However, when adding a ZMySQLDA database connector, I get an error message: - invalid connection string when I use mysql test as connection string. I tried several strings - still invalid. Can anyone help... Best regards...

The correct URL you're trying to put together seems to be:: linktest02?Branch=(value)&Customer=(value) ? is the start character for the query string; & separates arguments; = separates the argument name and value. In other words, your DTML should say:: > <td><a href="linktest02?Branch=&Customer="</a> In addition to this there's URL encoding, which is significant when your argument names or values may contain illegal characters (illegal in an URL, that is). URL encoding converts illegal characters into the format %XX where XX is the hexadecimal representation of the value; in additional to this it turns spaces into "+". So if you have an argument "foo" which has the value "a=b" then URL encoding translates this into:: some_document?foo=a%3Db (since the character "="'s hex value is 3D.) Happily, Zope supports URL encoding, so modified, your DTML becomes:: > <td><a href="linktest02?Branch=&Customer="</a> "url_quote" is the magic word that makes Zope encode the variable correctly. Interestingly, Internet Explorer is much more lenient about handling illegal URL characters than Netscape; you might discover that URLs that worked perfectly in IE "suddenly" don't work at all in Netscape, so watch out. As a rule of thumb, _Always_ use url_quote when passing variables inside <a href="..."> HTML tags (but only after the "?" character, to wit). *Afaik*, ZPublisher is not technically an HTTP server -- it's the thing that publishes Zope. It does not serve HTTP socket requests; rather, it serves object requests. An external web server must convert HTTP requests into ZPublisher requests, and response must be translated back into valid HTTP responses. So essentially you can build any kind of server around ZPublisher, such as FTP or WebDAV (which is what ZServer does). Is this possible? > > TIA > > Jenny Definitely, this is from a system we have for displaying and editing staff details. index_html object: find_staff is an SQL query:  blah blah (staff_number is returned from the find_staff SQL method) <a href="edit_me?staff_number=">Edit Me</a> blah  *** edit_me object: blah..., the 'if' statement is just so's find_staff_number doesn't complain.   clever stuff, using the var's from the find_staff_number SQL method.   (replace 'staff' with 'transaction', add your own nice-looking HTML and bingo!) hth Tone.

Then run: $ chkconfig --add zope And you can control it from ntsysv/tksysv/linuxconf, just like other services :-) I originally made them because I was running three or four zope servers and wanted to have them all fire up on boot. I never got around to fully testing them on multihosting, since I got waylayed on a project for work (also using Zope, though :-). You will likely need to modify the startup script to point to your zope directory. It really should be in the config file, but I put them together rather quickly, and they worked, so I haven't upgraded them. I have been working on a set for Zserver/Zope2, and can make them available when done. Any problems/gripes/comments/complaints, let me know, I'll fix'em ;-) Bill Anderson
