I'm not sure if you can get the propertysheet management page DTML through the web. Look at lib/python/OFS/properties.dtml in your Zope distribution... Recent, *working* RPMs?

Is anyone aware of any recent (2.0.1), working, intuitively designed RPMs? We've been using for a couple of months and it works -- as far as I know -- great. I certainly hope that it will be maintained. Hello Zopistas ... I am releasing a first version of a set of python modules to start stop and monitor Zope. The project began before zdaemon and the start/stop scripts appeared and it follows a different approach. You can download it from: http://starship.python.net/crew/pavlos/ I am including the README file to save you the trouble downloading it to find out what it does. Zsupervisor A set of modules that enable easy monitoring, starting and stopping of Zope. INSTALLATION: Untar Zsupervisor.tgz in the Zope home directory. Edit file start from the standard Zope distribution, and replace z2.py with ztoo.py (z2.py has a bug and does not allow a -Z '' option). You might want to save a copy of the original z2.py script. USE: It is better to start first the supervisor in a different terminal so you can monitor medusa's stderr. Simply run:: tellzope start_supervisor In a different terminal type:: tellzope start_zope -a 100.100.100.100 -p 8080 <and other z2 options> To view the status of the Zope process:: tellzope status To restart Zope:: tellzope restart To stop Zope and remove from supervision:: tellzope stop To exit Zsupervisor and stop Zope (identical with killing the Zsupervisor process directly):: tellzope exit NOTES: Tested only on Linux running ZServer only (no pcgi) Pavlos

HOWTO: Multiple Zopes sharing software

I am trying to run mutiple zope instances from the same software base. Poking around in the code, I discovered two (undocumented) environment variables: SOFTWARE_HOME and INSTANCE_HOME. I set INSTANCE_HOME to the directory above my alternate var directory, and immediately discovered that I needed to copy the 'access' file to that directory. After I copied that across, I got the server to run, and everything *seems* fine. My Questions: Did I miss anything? Has anyone else tried to do this? Right now, I am using the same products and extensions for all of the zopes, but I can see a future need (virtual hosting) to have both shared and non-shared product folders. Here is a simple proposal for a directory hierarchy (based loosely on FHS 2.0 (http://www.pathname.com/fhs/)) shared files: /opt/zope/share/doc bundled Zope documentation /opt/zope/share/lib Zope python files, and shared products /opt/zope/share/src source files for /opt/zope/share/lib and /opt/zope/<arch>/lib /opt/zope/share/etc.in sample configuration files for /opt/zope/host/etc /opt/zope/share/var.in initial site database and other files architecture-specific files: /opt/zope/<arch>/lib .pyd or .so files host-specific config files: /opt/zope/host/etc or maybe /etc/opt/zope (for example: where is the python interpreter?) private files for each site: /opt/zope/<site-name>/lib probably just Products/ and Extensions/ (and maybe Import/?) /opt/zope/<site-name>/etc "access" maybe an rc file that specifies ports, services, and data stores (rather than assuming "Data.fs" and "FileStorage". This will be a bigger issue with ZEO.) Zope stores most of its 'configuration' in ZODB, but this would be the place for start-up configuration. /opt/zope/<site-name>/var Data.fs, Export/ these could also be moved into the /home hierarchy, like /home/ftp and /home/httpd Questions: Why are ZServer and PCGI not in the lib directory? Is there a problem with putting the dynamic libraries into a separate folder from the related .pyc files? p.s. I have not actually installed Zope on Linux yet, but the directory structure of the tarball looks identical to the MSWindows release.

No subject given

When I start zope on a Linux system (./start from /usr/local/doc/Zop... directory), I get an error report to the effect that the statement open(PID_FILE, "w") statement in z2.py has failed. Permission error.(errno13). I do have the var directory with the correct permissions - I can login as the Zope user and create the Z2.pid file. What else should I check? Thanks for your help. Time to split the Zope list?

I'm relatively new here, so I don't feel comfortable suggesting major organizational changes, but... The traffic on the main Zope list is pretty high. Even though I get the digests, they come frequently and are ungainly to wade through. I pretty much use the web interface in threaded mode. Even so, there's a lot. Perhaps the list could spin off some part of the topics, such as SQL issues (nothing against SQL stuff, it just seems like a popular subtopic within the main list that could survive on its own), or some other topic. Also, is there any chance that the Zope lists will become usenet groups so that they can be cataloged and searched using DejaNews? Just some ideas. Chris Fassnacht
