Combining ZCatalog Search Results

I have a ZCatalog that is keeping track of several properties, for example, title, caption, description, and keywords. I want to provide a simple search interface that checks all of these properties, but not certain other properties, such as tech_details, datestamp, which are also indexed. Presently I am searching on each of the properties individually, and then combining the results. Yet, sometimes the search term appears in multiple properties, which means that a single object can be found more than once. Is there a better way to do this? Did I describe the situtation well? This is a problem for all DAV servers that deal with dynamic content :( The DAV working group has been surprisingly resistant to widening their scope to cover dynamic content - surprising to me, at least, given the growing ubiquity of .asp, php, dtml, etc. Apparently MS decided to stop beating their head against this and came up with their own magic header that lets their (win2K/ exchange) DAV server know that you want the _unprocessed_ content. I suspect that in lieu of an "official" solution, this will catch on. Once there are clients that know about this, I expect we will support it in Zope as well. Recommendations: Learning to swim, ZopeStyle...

Hi all, <background> Relative newbie to Linux/web systems administration. Running 3 Mac web servers and 2 LinuxPPC Mac Workgroup Servers for a small university. The newest LinuxPPC server I set up myself. Been looking for a possible solution to the updating of the university web site that would allow people to change their content without having to teach them all HTML issues. Like the idea of separating the presentation from the content with authorization. Like Open Source philosophy. Found Zope (and from it found Python). Python looks pretty cool and even understandable by mere mortals (at least 40 year old mere mortals who have only learned "structured programming" [on Turbo Pascal] within the last year). Last Friday I figured out how to update my Python 1.5.1 to 1.5.2 using RPM. Also, couldn't find a LinuxPPC RPM of Zope 2.1.2, so got some instructions on making one from the src. Did it and installed it (I think). </background> <tendencies> My problem is that my desire to do what's "right" often (usually) runs ahead of my ability to actually understand what I am getting into. (tendencies.examples.mod_perl: my Apache 1.3.9 is running mod_perl 1.21 but the complicated script I downloaded to run on it does funny things under Apache:Registry that I can only perceive through a heavy mist. But, I digress...) </tendencies> <question> How do you experienced Python/Zope sages recommend someone like me scale the foothill of the proverbial learning curve? Are you in favor of heaving me into deep end of the pool with no life preserver to thrash about until I sink or swim...or are there some nice Red Cross lessons given by leggy bronzed blonds to guide me along a progressive path of ever-increasing confidences? (Jeez, I musta forgot to take my afternoon Ritalin!) I've read the excellent HowTo: by anser on "Using Apache with ZServer (not Zope.cgi)" http://www.zope.org/Members/anser/apache_server and from what I've read, it sounds like the best of all worlds performance-wise. I think I even understand everything he is saying to do. (I don't think I have mod_proxy compiled in, but that's fixable). Problem is, I haven't even fired up Zope yet and wonder if I should try it some simpler way first, before getting into all of that. Is it necessary for me to delve into Python before learning Zope's ropes? Opinions/recommendations, anyone? </question> Please cc me when replying to the list...I'm on digest mode. Many thanks! dtml-var enhancement suggestion

I've noticed that in some of my DTML code I often times do something like this: <dtml-if foo> <dtml-var foo> <dtml-else> Some default text </dtml-if> I do this so that I can build a template and view it without getting key errors. It would seem that a simple extension to dtml-var could make this code a lot cleaner. Would it be terribly unreasonable to add a "default=xxx" parameter to dtml-var? My code above could then be rewritten: <dtml-var foo default="Some default text"> Comments welcome. James W. RE: [Zope] Link scanning

I just found out what's going wrong with linbot: If I rename index_html to index.html and call linbot with http://localhost/index.html everything works fine. http://localhost/ doesn't work. Seems to be a matter of what the scanner regards as html and what not. Unfortunately this seems to apply to a LOT of (GPL) link scanners. Could there be a possibility to work around this in zope? Tokens: Please help

Hi all! It's the third time I post this problem but no one answered me. But I cannot carry on with my application if I don't resolve it. So I need your help. Can someone tell me how can I have a form in which the user can insert wordS and I return the list of records (on db) that contain in a certain field one of those words. I tried with sql-group and sql-test (using the op operator) but as soon as I insert two words it translate it in an "in" operator. Than I tried to use tokens, sql-group cicling on the words and building the sql statement and it works proprerly but only from inside the test window. When I tried it from the form I have got the following error: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: InError Error Value: Strings are not allowed as input to the in tag. I tried other way but I can't get out. Could you please help me! I will hazard a wild guess that you are using a Netscape server :) There is a known problem with NS servers where they don't like the '.' target that we used to use in some management screen form targets. We thought that we found and changed all of those, but it turns out that there is still one of these in the file renameForm.dtml in the current Zope release (this file is in the lib/python/OFS directory of your distribution). You can edit this file and change the line: <FORM ACTION="." METHOD="POST"> to: <FORM ACTION="<dtml-var URL1>" METHOD="POST"> ...and restart your Zope instance to fix the problem. authenticate user

Hi I'm new with Zope and I'm having some difficulties to authenticate a user and his password in the login. I'm trying to use this code: <dtml-with acl_users> <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.authenticate('<dtml-var user>','etcUser') and AUTHENTICATED_USER.authenticate('<dtml-var pass>','passwd')> This code is not working, can you help me to do this.
