Any Zope class can have properties, although if you want to customize the properties of each individual instance, you will need to pick up one of the two you mention (or create a new one in Python which subclasses PropertyManager.PropertyManager). Product to embed another web page?

Isn't there a product that allows you to specify another web page for the purposes of grabbing its contents and displaying them in your DTML Document? I swear I remember seeing one, but I just went through http://www.zope.org/Products and didn't see anything. Do old products disappear off the list after a while? If someone could point out the name of this product, or notify me that I've been dreaming, I'd appreciate it..... Thanks in advance for any help.

dtml-sendmail gotcha

Here's a challenge. What's wrong with the following DTML snippet? <dtml-sendmail mailhost="MailHost"> To: <dtml-var email> From: Example.Net <WebStaff(a)example.net> Subject: Joining Example.Net To complete your registration with Example.Net (blah blah...) </dtml-sendmail> On my Zope site I had a similar DTML snippet, and it refused to send the mail message, but it also gave no error message that I could see, so debugging it took a ***long*** time. Do you see the problem? Here's what worked for me: <dtml-sendmail mailhost="MailHost"> To: <dtml-var email> From: "Example.Net" <WebStaff(a)example.net> Subject: Joining Example.Net To complete your registration with Example.Net ... </dtml-sendmail> Those double quotes can make a world of difference. I'm posting this to the Zope mailing list in the hope that it will keep others out of this blind alley which cost me so much time and frustration. Good thing my site is for fun and not for profit! Your RenderableImage class inherits meta_type from Image, which is why there apear to be two Image classes. You have two of them because they both look identical to Zope, you have essentially taken a rich class and created another rich class with a little extra functionality. Both of these objects have the meta_type 'Image', for example, which is why you see two of them with the same name in the class list. They are different classes, but they have very similar meta-data associated with them. What you should do is create a very thin python class which you MIX-IN along with the rich Image class into a new ZClass with a new meta_type. So instead of: Image->YourClass You have: Image \ -> YourClass ThinBaseClass / Where 'ThinBaseClass' defines your new __str__ method and mixes this with the existing Image class into a new ZClass (with a new meta_type). I think you're doing this a bit wrong, but that's understandable, it's not documented anywhere. Create a new Product in your lib/python/Products dir called 'MyImageProduct'. In that Product, create a module called 'MyImageModule.py' In that module, create class MyImageClass: def __str__(self): return self.id # whatever... In the Product, create an __init__.py file: import MyImageModule def initialize(context): context.registerBaseClass(MyImageModule.MyImageClass) Now, your ZClasses can subclass (aka, mix-in) the MyImageClass. You don't need to subclass Acquisition or Image at the Python level, just create ZClass that subclasses both Image and MyImageClass. The ORDER in which you subclass is important, because BOTH the Image and your MyImageClass define an __str__ method, you want to subclass Image first, then MyImageClass. -Michel
