standard_error_message, not working?

Maybe, I'm missing something here, but it seems to me that standard_error_message doesn't really work. I see that zope.org obviously has a different error message. But I can't get my site to do it. When I look at the code (HTTPResponse.py) I see that it has a comment that says that _error_html should be using standard_error_message some day. What am I doing wrong? Subclassing Confusion

I just tried to create a Python Base class for the purpose of overriding Images __str__ method and things didn't quite work as I would have expected. I subclassed Image as follows (using the Renderable product as an example): import Acquisition from OFS import Image class RenderableImage: def __str__ (self): Request = self.REQUEST if Request: try: Method = getattr (self, 'render') except AttributeError: return Image.__str__(self) return Method (self, Request) else: return "Renderable error: no request" I defined a __init__ method to make the class a base class. I then went into my Product and create a new ZClass which used RenderableImage as a base class. Since I was just testing things, I immediately went and tried to create a new instance. No problem creating the object. The problem (or my confusion) was the fact that my RenderableImage didn't inherit any of the views which an Image would normally have (i.e. Edit, Upload, Properties, View, Security). My question is why didn't they show up? I would have thought that absent any other changes to my Image subclass, that the default Image views would show up as the views of my new ZClass. Thanks. Zope & WAP

Dear fellow Zopers, The Mobile Data market is about to explode, capitalizing on the huge growth that mobile phone operators have enjoyed over the past few years. In order to make a play in this market you need to have both internet and wireless access to the content, i.e. internet browser and wap browser access. There is already an OpenSource WAP gateway, but very few HTTP and WML servers. Zope would be ideal for this task as it could serve up the content in different forms depending on the type of browser or access device used. I would like to know if anyone has or is working on a WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) interface for Zope? Today most WAP browsers use WML, but it looks like this may move toward XML soon. If you want to get Zope into the Telco space big time this would be a good way to start. Where is the best place to learn how to write my own Python Base class? I know the basic Python syntax for creating new subclasses, but I'm not sure how this all works in the context of Zope. For example, which directory should I put my new class file in? Should it just go in my products directory? Do I need to do anything special to make it work as a base class for a ZClass? Are there standard things which should be "imported" into my .py file to make things work with Zope? Is there a simple example of this that I could look at somewhere? Thanks. James W. In Python, yes: if caption: return self.view_image_or_file() else: return Image.view_image_or_file(self) In this case, you are explicitly saying you want to use the Image base class's method. -Michel

XML/headers

Hello...:) I've made a little py-script in Zope that is to return: <?xml version="1.0"?> My xml stuff </xml> However, when I have a regular return statement in the py, I'll get a <html><head></head> <?xml version="1.0"?> .. </xml> in return. Can I get rid of the <html> stuff at the first row? Also, can I edit the headers sent by the server in return, they shouldn't say type="text/html" since that's not what it is. Extending Image via ZClass

I'm working on creating an extension to Image which will allow a person to include caption and attribution information for an image. I'm calling this a CaptionedImage for lack of a better name. I've created the ZClass and added property sheets and defined some methods for my views. What I don't know how to do, however, is modify the way the object renders itself by default. For example, if I use the following: <dtml-var CaptionedImageObjectInstance> I get an img tag for the image associated with my object. What I want to be able to do is generate my own tags so as to include caption and attribution information in a standard format. How can I do this? Relatedly, does Zope support the notion of "super" in determine which code to evaluate. For example, in my CaptionedImage object, I would like to override the default behavior of view_image_or_file, but only if caption information was specified. If no caption information was specified, I would like to let the superclass version of the method be executed. Is there a way to do this? Thanks. James W.
