I would like to put an image or different text at several places in the site when ever there is at least one person logged into the ZRTChat chatroom. i.e. a light on the front page to indicate that there is a chat session presently underway in the chatroom. Question: How can I accomplish the following algorithm, <If logged in users exist> display image or text a <else> display image or text b <fi> Basically I need to know how I can access a variable or other data type that will tell me whether there is anyone logged on when the page in question is requested. Getting result object from ZCatalog

I have just started experimenting with ZCatalog and I have a question. I know from reading various things that if I use something like this: Catalog(meta_type='Foo') I will get a collection of objects which lets me access information contained in the Catalog about objects with the meta_type of 'Foo'. I know that the results are not the actual objects themselves. I also know that I can get the path to the actual item by using getpath(data_record_id_). However, what I would like to be able to do is actually get to the real object so that I can get properties or evaluate methods which exist for the object. I don't want to include the additional information in my ZCatalog. I tried using something like this: <dtml-with "Catalog.getpath(data_record_id_)"> <dtml-var SomeUnCatalogedProperty> </dtml-with> but when I evaluate the method I get a KeyError. Is there some way to use a ZCatalog to get to the actual instance of the object which was cataloged? Thanks. James W. Custom Property Sheet Look

I've been playing around a little bit with ZClasses. I've created a ZClass with a small number of properties. When I create an instance of my ZClass I can edit properties via a standard property editing page. If I don't like the look of this page, how easy is it to develop a custom property page for my ZClass? What and where would I need to make changes? Thanks. James W. Where does zope store temporary files?

When I do a file upload to a Zope method where is the temp file stored on the server? /tmp, /var/tmp, or the directory containing Data.fs? I need to know this because the system we're setting up will receive large file uploads and I need to dimension the partitions correctly. dtml-return question

I want to add a DTMLMethod to a folder which will be used to return a subset of the items in the folder. I've written a method called allNewsArticles which looks like this: <dtml-return "objectValues('NewsArticle')"> I have a method in another folder which references the result of this method and it looks like this: <dtml-in allNewsArticles> <... do stuff here...> </dtml-in> When I execute the DTMLMethod containing the code above, I get no output for the dtml-in. However, if I do the following in the method above (instead of using the allNewsArticles method), I do get output: <dtml-in "PARENTS[1].objectValues('NewsArticle')"> <... do stuff here ...> </dtml-in> I don't want to use the PARENTS approach because I don't know for sure that the immediate predecessor will have the news articles. Is there a way for a DTMLMethod to return a collection of items which are usable by a dtml-in tag? Thanks. James W. caching problem.

Hi there, I'm just beginning to use Zope, and I'm making some tests with it since yesterday only. unfortunately I'm facing a caching problem which doesn't seem to stop if I stop then relaunch Zope (standalone) or if I try to flush cache with the Zope menu. Here's what I do, maybe I'm wrong: I define a dtml method, let's call it my_method this way: ------- my_method ------- <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-var my_logo> <p> Here's some HTML text, but if you want you can view the <a href="my_method_pdf">PDF version</a> </p> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> ------- my_method ------- and I define a Zpdfdocument this way: ------- my_method_pdf -------  and <dtml-var> ? I've tried to repeat the database example contained in QuickStart and it didn't work until I replaced all  with <dtml-var> . thanks for your time. My URL is something like this: /RootTop/NewsSite/20001001/CurrentIssue Both 20001001 and CurrentIssue are folder objects. The 20001001 contains news articles. The CurrentIssue contains information on how to format news articles. What I wanted to have happen is I wanted my code in CurrentIssue to be able to dynamically get a collection of NewsArticle objects which it could then format into a table of contents. I wanted to invoke a method which I new would be implemented by an object higher in the acquisition tree, but I wanted the invoked method (allNewsArticles) to generate a list of articles contained in the folder which defined the allNewsArticles method itself. What seems to be happening, based on my limited knowledge of Zope plus your comments above, is that my CurrentIssue is acquiring the allNewsArticles method and then executing it over the CurrentIssue contents, rather than the 20001001 contents. Since CurrentIssue has no NewsArticles, there is nothing to loop over. Does this sound correct? What I want to be able to do is ask an object to answer some results from the perspective of the object being asked. However, I don't know (or want to know) where in the acquisition hierarchy this object resides. I want to be able to send a message out into the acquisition ether, as it were, and if an object responds to the message I want that object to execute it and return its results. Of course, I'm open to other solutions as long as I can keep the knowledge of how to format an object separate from the knowledge of the content. Thanks James W.
