In my experimentations with Zope, I'm trying to extend the Image object to include caption information and formatting. I've created a ZClass which has Image as one of the base classes. I'm a little confused as to what to do next. For example, what properties do I need to defined. Do I just define the caption property? Do I inherit any properties from Image itself? I also noticed that because I subclassed from Image, certain views are created for me by default. The "Edit" view is defined to use manage_main. The "Upload" view uses manage_uploadForm. If I want to enhance the functionality of the Edit and Upload view, do I just need to create new methods on my ZClass and point the view at the new method? If I wanted my views to look just like the normal views (manage_main and manage_uploadForm) with only minor tweaking, where would I find the source to those methods? Thanks James W. I have an SQLMethod (SQLRicercaAnnuncio) that accept a parameter "Parola:tokens" The sql statement is: select * from annunci <dtml-sqlgroup where> <dtml-in Parola> <dtml-unless sequence-start> or </dtml-unless> testo like '%<dtml-var sequence-item>%' </dtml-in> </dtml-sqlgroup> When I test it from inside zope environment it does work properly. I declared an dtml method with an input field named "EditParola". On the submit of this form is called another dtml-method that is this: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <TABLE CELLSPACING="2"> <dtml-in "SQLRicercaAnnuncio(Parola='<dtml-var EditParola>')"> <TR> <TH ALIGN="LEFT" VALIGN="TOP">Id </TH> <td align="center" valign="top"> <dtml-var testo> [This is the field I want to show in table] </TD></TR> </dtml-in> </TABLE> </FORM> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> But I have the following error: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: InError Error Value: Strings are not allowed as input to the in tag. I don't know: 1) which is the in tag that generates the error? It seem the in tag on the parameter but inside the zope env. it work 2) What am I making wrong? DateTime arithmetic behaviour question

The question is: in "<aDateTime> + 1", ¿the integer 1 should be one day or 24 hours? And a second question, There is another DateTime module for python called mxDateTime which seems to be better, why Zope doesn't use this one? Thanks, David

Python source install problem

Hi. I try to follow Alans kind instruction on http://www.zope.org/Members/alanpog/zmysqlda_steps I downloaded the source of everything. I used the source release of MySQL-3.22.25, because I ran into compile problems with newer versions. After configuring and making python I do a "make install" on the python source and after a while get following error: ./python /usr/local/lib/python1.5/compileall.py /usr/local/lib/python1.5 ./python: error in loading shared libraries: libmysqlclient.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory make: *** [libinstall] Error 127 What is the special problem here? Can you help me? What version of MySQL are you using? I have to run the latest MySQL-3.22.30 on my machine. Is that conflicting here? Zope design: the liberal use of subclassing?

One component of our budding academic site is a searchable database of publications authored by department members. Publications come in various flavours: journal articles, conference proceedings, books, book chapters, etc. All of these share certain properties while others are unique. Question: In terms of ZClasses, is it best to create an abstract Publication ZClass with common data and methods and then subclass the various flavours? In addition to publication details, I also want the option of encapsulating the data files, be it in PDF, MSWord, ASCII, TeX format, etc. Question: Rather than create a slew of File-like products in the root Product folder, should I again create an abstract class and subclass for each Mime type a la the PDF example used in: http://www.zope.org/Members/lstaffor/zProperties The same applies for People, variants of which include staff, students, alumni, visitors, etc., with the difference that people can migrate from one class to another (student to alumni). Summary Question: Generally speaking, rather than create a slew of ZClasses in the root Product folder, should one liberally subclass? Advice on these critical design decisions is most appreciated. re: SQL Unions.

Hi people, I have been attempting to do an SQL union from an ZSQL Method with MysqlDA as my back end database. The only problem is I cant seen to get it to work. Are unions a bad thing? Should I be using something else. Eg. Get all the brands we have in our database. select brand from tableofitemsoftype1 union select brand from tableofitemsoftype2 group by brand. >From what I understand this would get all of the brands and group them together and place them in a single column results table?
