another Catalog.uniqueValuesFor question

In another case I want to search a ZClass for unique values from the catalog but only if a boolean field "active" is true. Catalog.uniqueValuesFor works great but finds all unique values not just the "active" ones. Is there a way to search the catalog for unique values based on two fields? I haven't even been able to figure out how to search by two fields let alone find only unique values. So my questions are: 1. How to search a catalog based on two or more values? 2. How to find unique values where some other condition is true? and while I am at it I will through in this question: 3. How to search a catalog for dates greater than, less than, equal to, not equal to, a certain date. Thanks again, Phil.

python-mysql-module installation blues

Dear Mr. Dustman, Currently we are in the process of installing mysql-python module on cobalt / MIPS architecture. We have tried everything: 1. src.rpm --> --rebuild 2. src.rpm --> rpm -i --> rpm -i /usr/src/RPMS/mips/python-MySQLmodule-1.4.0-7.mips.rpm 3. copy Mysqldb.c into $PYTHON_SOURCE/Modules and do a make (followed after make install) 4. Build from source distrib (python build.py --> make install) all with no success. Above installation methods all 'exit' normally, but our Zope gives: Sorry, a Zope error occurred.<p>  We use: Cobalt most recent MIPS linux version (continuously upgraded) python1.5.2 Zope2.0.1 MySQL-3.22.20a If you need more info, please contact us... ZopeLDAP corruption of Data.fs

Obviously this is of interest to the ZopeLDAP developers, but it may also be of interest to DC (undo feature may be broken?). Yesterday, I downloaded and installed the ZopeLDAP (ZLDAPConnection, ZLDAPMethods) product (I also got and installed UserLDAP, but haven't messed with it yet). I created two connections to test out the ZopeLDAP product. I then created a filter method to test my connections. I realized I'd done something stupid, so I deleted the filter and the connections. I then created a new connection. When I went to create a new filter, the choices I was given for connection were, to my surprise, the connections I had deleted. The new connection was not listed. So I figured something didn't get cleaned up in the deletion process (but I do not claim to know the Zope internals). So I went to use the wonderful undo feature, and I undid things until before I had created my first connection. I then did the new connection/new filter step again. To my surprise, the old connections were *still* there in the connection listing for my filter creation, and again my new connection was not listed (I know because I used different names). So I decided to create a second and third connection, hoping that I would be able to at least access the third connection. Nope, didn't help. I still had the original two, and only the original two, connections listed. So I did a grep on every file in the zope tree looking for a reference to the IDs of the two old connections. To my surprise, they were indeed found in var/Data.fs, and nowhere else (other than the log). So this morning, I restored a backup of Data.fs from before I ever created the original two connections. Finally, the evil connections were gone.... I don't currently know enough about external methods to be able to troubleshoot this connection deletion problem myself (someday :), but I hope this information is helpful. On a positive note, after restoring the database, I tried making connections again (without deleting), and I was able to successfully query one of my LDAP servers (not sure what's up with the second, more important server). p.s., WRT "No Cross Posting", I apologize, I wasn't sure how else to both bring this to the attention of the ZopeLDAP developers and the DC folks. Suggestions for how to deal with this more appropriately are welcomed. Thanks.

Catalog.uniqueValuesFor problem

I am using <dtml-in "Catalog.uniqueValuesFor('hist_cat')"> to make a pull down menu for unique values in the catalog. If I create a new ZClass instance with a new unique value for hist_cat it will then show up in my pull down menu just fine. I do this through a DTML form and do a <dtml-call reindex_object> after it is added. The problem occurs when I go into the management interface and delete that instance. It still shows up in the pull down! If I go into the Catalog and press the Update Catalog button it will be gone. Isn't the catalog supposed to update when instances are deleted? Even if I change it in the management screen the pull down does not get updated. If I did it from a DTML form and used <dtml-call reindex_object> would that fix it? If I have to delete the instance from DTML how do I do that? How can I update the catalog or remove this entry from DTML? Thanks, Phil.

Try using the z2.py's -L flag to set the locale that the process runs in. In UNIX, you can find out more about locale by doing a 'man locale' (if you have locale installed, of course, any fairly modern unix should, linux and freebsd most definatly). By default, Zope starts up with no special locale settings. By setting a locale option, certain C and Python functions and methods change behavior to make more sense for european and other languages. -Michel

How to get results from form with variable number of inputs

This is a repost but it was originally posted during the holidays, so I'm hoping it was the distraction of fun&food that caused no replies, not the stupidity of the question! (i'm still hoping..) I saw in zope.org's Documentation/How-to's an essay on how to create a form with a variable number of inputs - the problem being, you get your results but what are their names? But this scheme seemed a bit too complicated for my simple mind. I also read about the ':record' type but its behavior doesn't seem useful in this case where some selections in some rows might be left empty. What I have is a table that has variable number of rows with listboxes of the same choices and text input boxes in each row (the values of the listboxes, etc being generated from a SQL method). The user might change some or none of the choices. So what you get in the REQUEST for each form input name is a list of values instead of a single value. What I wound up doing to get this is in each row having something like <td><select name="lister:list" size="1"> <option value="Unassigned_Investigator"> <dtml-in get_all_inv_names> <option value="<dtml-var lastname"><dtml-var lastname></option> </dtml-in> </select> </td> which just means I coerced the 'lister' selection to be a list(in case there were just one selection - the normal behavior for Zope when several form variables have the same name 'joe' appears to be to turn them into a list named 'joe'. I also have a hidden field of 'ids' which is also a list and which is in each row too. So far when I get these list of 'ids' and 'lister' back, using Linux Netscape 4 and Windows IE 4, they match up - in other words, the first 'ids' corresponds to the first 'lister', etc. So I can figure out which selection goes with which record/row. So it seems that inputs with the same name are sent back to Zope 'in order' at least with the browsers I use. Is this a browser-dependent thing or does Zope have some magic I don't know about that's doing this? Is my ignorance showing? (don't answer that!) I have a bunch more forms I'm considering doing this way but I'm worried I'm just getting lucky and this might not work in all situations/browsers. Anyone know?

How do I index documents containing accents with ZCatalog?

I was very disappointed on my first try with ZCatalog when I noticed that it cannot properly index documents containing european accents.. The search engine I installed is of course unusable because it cannot find a large number of words in the indexed documents. I am running Zope 2.0.1, Python 1.5.2 and to install ZCatalog I followed the instructions in the ZCatalog howto. How can I correct this problem?
