Hi, I've used both the reverse proxy and the fastcgi mechanisms (on www.ekno.com and www.ekit.com, respectively) and there's no comparision - fastcgi is _far_ superior. It's much faster, it's less load on the apache machine, and you don't end up with the apache server eating things like the remote machine name. Brute force?

I tried to get an external method to import a function from another python file which did't work if that other file was in the Extensions directory, too. So I tried out where it would work and ended up with my import file in zope/lib/python where it also was byte-compiled nicely after the next zope restart. But: this somehow felt to me like brute force. Where would one normally put a file to import from? Is there a strategy that I missed? Documentation? Ragnar

Hi all, No, this is not a question on how to do it. All the how-to's available clearly explain this... it just an informational question and I hope somebody can give me a straight answer. In reading Jeff Shelton's Python conference summaries (by the way, thanks Jeff for doing this! Now, people who're not able (because of their job, ...) to go to this conference can still pick something up! Great!) I read the following : In Jim's opinion, the "preferred way" to hook into Apache will soon become FastCGI rather than PCGI. Well, I can understand that FastCGI is better than PCGI, but I read (and implemented) a how-to of anser (Using Apache with ZServer (Not Zope cgi)) in which he explains the use of ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse. Well, this mehtod looks to me really handy. You use all the positive things, because you can use Apache, but also the fast ZServer. So, now, you'll understand that I'm a little bit confused. What is now the best way ... using FastCGI or ProxyPass....? What are the differences between the two? What are the pro's and con's? Regards, Tom.

Hi, while trying to traverse the PARENT hiercharchy to compare their names to certain roles I encountered the following problems: - how can I check what kind of object a given id represents? - how can I convert a string to an object and vice versa? - how can I do the same for roles? thanks for your help --Oliver

Storing an image (gif) in oracle table

Does anyone have any ideas on how to store an image (gif) into an oracle table through Zope. Zope doesn't seem to support BLOB's as an ZSQL Method argument. Thanks, DR

authentication with NDS

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone has tried using either of the LDAP adaptor products with NDS? I'm not even sure if it's possible, let alone whether it works well. I'm not an NDS expert, but our school uses it, and I'm planning to integrate it with our Zope-powered Web site to provide authentication for all our District staff and students. XMLDocument Question

I'm doing some playing around XMLDocument objects. I'm experimenting with using them to hold archive information. I've successfully added an XMLDocument and built a ZCatalog to provide searching of the document. However, I've run across something which I don't know how to handle. Using the "Creating XML Applications With Zope" article as a base, if I have some XML which looks something like this: <faq> <entry> <question>To be or not to be?</question> <answer>That is the question</answer> </entry> </faq> I can search for information pertaining to the "question" tag and display the question value by doing something like this: <dtml-var "text_content('question')"> However, if my XML changes to look like this: <faq> <entry> <question>To be or not to be?</question> <answer>That is the question</answer> </entry> </faq> and I use the code given above to reference the content of question, I get nothing. I understand why this happens. The text I want is contained in tags and the <question> tag only knows that it contains the . What I want to be able to do is ask the XML document to give me all of its contents. So, in the case above, I would want to get back the value: To be or not to be? Is there a way to ask a node of an XML document to return a textual representation of the entire contents of the particular node? Thanks. Hi, How can I set the query string for the response to a request. I want to rewrite the url with a querystring to particular requests.
