Hello everyone- I am trying to access zope.org and everytihn is ok and fast until I try to access the HowTos or any other subobject of the documentation folder. Anybody experiences the same thing? Pavlos

I'm trying to understand various aspects of permissions. I wanted to encapsulate my whole web site, so beneath / (root) I put a /Home folder. I would like only the contents of /Home to be viewable. I first set the protection of / to be not viewable by anonymous but then any time I try to do anything I have to enter a password. I worked around this by making the /index_html not viewable by anonymous, but leaving /Home viewable. Is this the way I am supposed to do it, at the document level as opposed to the folder level? Next I decided to try and squirrel away all my images into a /Home/img folder. I don't want anything in this folder to be directly viewable. So I created an index_html document (more on this later) and made it not viewable. Fine, anonymous can't read it, so that works, but I have to make the images viewable. If I make /Home/img not viewable (don't acquire permissions) then the whole directory requires a password any time I access an image. So I let /Home/img acquire permissions, and try and change the permissions at the image level. Now the problem is that if I make the images directly viewable, I can access them from /Home which is what I want, but I can also get to them explicitly via /Home/img/ImageName which I don't want. So I can get the image even though /Home/img is password protected. What is the correct way to have an image folder to be totally non-viewable but still accessible from another folder? A weird/cool feature I discovered which may be interesting to other newbies, is that acquisition acquires the protection of the parent, not the child. At least I found this. I made my /Home/img folder not viewable by anonymous, but didn't put an index_html document in it. Surprisingly, as anonymous I could view /Home/img. My guess is that the index_html document was inherited from /Home which was viewable so the permissions of /Home applied, rather than the permissions of /Home/img. I'm working on a site which manages news articles for a web publication. Currently I have an Article ZClass which has some properties about the article. In addition, Article is has ObjectManager behavior. When an article is created, key properties of the object are defined and the article content itself is stored as a DTMLMethod within the Article. So far this has worked fine. However, I'm now looking into how I can add searching to my site. I've played around a little bit with ZCatalogs but some things still puzzle me. One of the things I would like to do is have a full text search of all my articles. However, it seems that the way I've structured things would require me to index all my DTMLMethods, whether they were contained in an article folder or not. I can't seem to tell the system that I want to catalog only the DTMLMethods which are contained inside objects with a meta_type of 'Article', for example. It seems that to get the behavior that I want I should store the article content in a property of my Article ZClass. Then, I could just index that property value and I would only get data from that property. What other ways are there to do this sort of thing? Another question I have concerns the difference between Catalog Indexes and Catalog Metadata. From what I've read, it seems that items in Indexes are things you can specify in a search in order to find objects which have values corresponding to the index fields. Metadata is information stored in the cataloged object itself and is immediately available rather than having to get the real object from the catalog object. Is this correct? If I wanted to do a full text search, do I just define one index field with a value of TextIndex? How does the TextIndex get populated. If I define a TextIndex and do a find of all 'Articles', what will end up in the TextIndex? Finally, is it generally true that a web site would define one ZCatalog (typically named 'Catalog') which contains data from all the different items that I might want to have cataloged? For example, I have Article data that I'm interested in and I have Issue data that I'm interested in. They don't have the same set of properties. Do I just define one ZCatalog and define indexes for all of the properties that I'm interested in from both objects? I've read the information on ZCatalogs from zope.org but I still have questions. Is there a place where I can see some additional examples of ZCatalog usage? Thanks. James W. Seems to work OK for me... Help - Zope self restarting

It appears that zope is restarting itself, either crashing and restarting or just plain restarting. I suspect is some errant code someplace but have not been able to pin down what it is. What's up with webdav.zope.org?

Interested in checking out the zope/webDAV info and all links lead to webdav.zope.org. Server hasn't been answering (at least yesterday & today). Browser status bar says port 2518. Get an object by name from a folder

Hi, This has bugged me for a while. I know I can get ALL the items in a folder by using objectValues() or objectIds(). But how can I get an object in a folder quickly without having to go through every single item? I have an object named debug_dtml, it can appear in any folder or subfolder. How do I check whether it exists? The <dtml-with ... only> tag does not help much, because it does not allow me to access other variables when I have to render the debug_dtml method. The _.hasattr() function is no good because it assumes acquisition. I would like to disable acquisition for this purpose. SiteAccess & SSL question

I've been experimenting with SiteAccess & proxies. It works fine (so far) with regular connections, but don't see how to use it with http and https paths to the same object. As I understand it, there can only be one SiteRoot in any single object and the Base, if specified, must begin with "http://".
