I installed python 1.5.2 with RPMs and installed a Zope 2.1.2 source package. However, I get this with databases I've done using External Methods and shelve [which seems to make bsd dbm files]: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: error Error Value: db type could not be determined ----- How do I fix this without recompiling whole packages? So since that stuff doesn't work, I've moved to trying to use ZSQL methods. Given a ZSQL method viewbytitle, args: title (subject is a property) with a query: select * from metadb where title = <dtml-sqlvar title type=string> and subj like '%<dtml-var subject>%' Can I do something like <dtml-let x=viewbytitle(title='WorldCat')> <dtml-var "x.url"> </dtml-let> ? Is this possible using DTML/ZSQLMethods or do I need to do an External Method? Last Q, does anyone know of good tools that will move PC databases (FM Pro, dBase) into PostgreSQL easily? I've been saving the databases in tab-delim format and then using python scripts to import them into pgsql, with all of the quoting problems. thanks. -ray

Dumb Fix

Hey yall, que pasa?!?! A few months ago I wrote the list about a prob I was having converting an old zope db to the new ver. The problem was that when I clicked on a folder in management view, it would show me the contents in browser form, (ie: the index page of the folder) rather than admin form (where you actually SEE what's in the dir). I had people suggest stuff for userdb, etc.. (thanks guys!) Well I figured out what I did wrong, and fixed it a while back. Although it was one of those stupid little things, they'll get ya sometimes, so I figured I'd at least tell the list what it was, in case some other learner has the same thing happen to 'em. (wheew! long sentence huh?!?) Enneywaze, it turned out that I the folder I was having trouble with just didn't have a name! As soon as I named the folder, it ported with no probs!!! I feel retarded for falling for this one, but hey! ya live, ya learn, ya know! This list is a great resource, I'd like to thank everyone on it! Peach out, Denny

manage_exportObject

Now I'm getting desperate, this is the third posting. Any thoughts no matter how far fetched would be overwhelmingly appreciated. Does anyone know how to export an object (Folder or such) from outside of the Folder that contains the item to be exported without hard coding the path. In other words I would like to be able to have a user interface which would allow a person, with an export role, to be able to enter a list of fully qualified Items to be exported. Consider: FolderA FolderB ItemToExport I can export ItemToExport from FolderA by calling: <dtml-with "FolderA.FolderB"> <dtml-call "manage_exportObject(id='ItemToExport')"> </dtml-with> but I don't want the FolderA.FolderB to be hard coded. I would like it to be a var that I pass into the method. Something like: <dtml-with FullPath> what should the syntax be. Thanks,

Second Newbie Question

Hello again, Another, much more basic, Question: How can I integrate user's home directories with Zope? I have a site that I maintain, but a friend maintains a sub-directory. It's static, and he changes it on his windoze machine, then uploads it to his homedir on my server. I symlink from my current apache docroot to his directory. Easy and nice. Now if I want to change this site to Zope, because it would really benefit the rest, how could I keep the current set-up with his directory tree in an easy way? Newbie Question ;-)

Hello everybody, I am yet another newbie! So, "HELLO WORLD!". Discovered Zope not even a week ago, got started to fiddle with it on Monday, and I think I have gotten a basic grasp of the whole thing. Zope's really promising. It's a pitty that so little Documentation exists.... Anyway, please bear with me if any of what I am trying to do is REALLY stupid. :) Situation: I have a ZClass that I want to have a method which should display information about the object itself. I followed the ZClasses howto in the developer's guide, only instead of CDs I took something else. I followed another Howto to implement the searches of a ZCatalog which includes my ZClasses (an awful lot of Z's here). The relevant part is in the search report, and it goes like so: <td><dtml-var id></td> <td><a href="">  </a></td> <td><dtml-var description html_quote newline_to_br></td> <td><dtml-var author></td> Now, in my ZClass I have created an index_html method, but as soon as this method is trying to access any of the object's variables (say, "title"), I get asked for username & password and subsequently locked out with: Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Unauthorized You are not authorized to access title. Now, I'd really appreciate if someone could give me some hints. For the record, if I remove all dtml tags from that method and just put some text into it, that gets rendered just fine (in ugly courier on ugly gray, but still). Zope newbie ZODB question

Hello all, I have been trying my hardest to understand Zope and all that encompasses it and I am getting close but I have a few questions. What I am attempting is a simple Employee and Branch / Department list. The question I have is this.. Is the way I have approached it a good way to accomplish this task or is there a "better" way. Here is what I have done. I have a folder off of the root named Employees under it I have a folder called emplist with files named "username" under it. Each of these files have several properties (fname, lname, SSS, brid etc....) I am just attempting to get a list of users and can accomplish this with dtml-in's. The question really comes in when I start linking branches to employees. I have another folder under root call branches with files under it with properties for each file (bname, badress1, baddress2, bid etc) I am looking to add a lot of information such as documents and notes later on. Is this going to scale verry well or is there something I am missing with Zope or am I on the right track? Thanks Travis

Yes, if you are wondering why tracebacks still are being displayed, you are probably still running with the -D flag in your start file.
