id problems in product I'm creating

I'm trying to create a product which is a derivative of the DTML document. Things seem to work OK, I go into the product management screen, add my product, then add a zclass to my products which inherits the DTML document class. So far so good. Then I go in and add my custom ICON, and go to the root folder to try it out. The problem is that when I add a new instance of my product, I am prompted for an ID, and the product is added, but Nothing in this new product which access or uses the id variable works. When you click on the new DTML derived object, you do indeed get the edit screen (looks just like the one for a DTML doc), but the id field at the top is blank. Furthermore, when you browse to this new object. The standard view containing a standard header,footer and a sentence stating the ID of the document is wrong. The ID is blank. the DTML tag , <dtml-var id> yeilds nothing. But I can't find anything wrong in my product's add form method, or the add constructor method. Any Ideas? A newbie question, rephrased

It seems that I may have been a little obscure. Let me try again: First off, I'm new to Zope. I've read through the documentation (well, I stuck with it for as long as I could) and can do a couple basic tasks, but in my struggle to convert a web site from its current Apache/PHP incarnation to Zope I have hit a snag. While I'm able to create Z SQL Methods and subsequently use the Search Interface Wizard, I'd like to be able to do the following: While looping through the results of an SQL method, I'd like to call another method using a value ('id') from the outer loop/method call as an argument. I don't appear to be able to nest DTML tags, so putting a <dtml-var ....> tag inside the call to the second method won't work. Can anybody help? --- Chris Christopher W. User/Subscriber advice on How-To

I'm trying to set up a registered subscription based site with Zope. The powers that be want a cookie based authentication scheme, so I've started by using GenericUserFolder to handle my authentication. I'm keeping my user account info in a /etc/passwd type file. I have some ExternalMethods I use to create user accounts that are accesible from a ``register'' method in my acl_users folder. So far so good. The PTB want to add more account information such as e-mail address, phone/fax etc. I'm wondering if my best course of action at this point would be to add this info to my account file in the form of additional fields, or should I create some type of User class derived from BasicUser to handle this. If I go the class route, I'm a little confused about what to derive where. Does anybody have any suggestions on what my best course of action would be? -Jon

Sort in ascending order?

Zopemisters, Is there anyway to sort objectValues() by bobobase modification time so that the most recent acced object is first? Right now sort puts it last. (Largest number I guess). All help appreciated, -- Jason Spisak 444(a)hiretechs.com

searching Google and Catalog

Well not simultaneously, but I am wondering how I can create a search interface to both easily. I've got this little search form at my site. You can view the object itself at http://www.isd197.k12.mn.us/google_search2 My intentions are obvious if you look at the link. Based on a radio button in the form, I want to search either the ZCatalog or Google on a given search string. My first attempt was to start with the basic form (see link above) and then pass the search choice (web or school) and the search string to another DTML method which would, based on the value of the radio button choice, do the appropriate search. That's where I get stuck. I tried using a <dtml-call RESPONSE.redirect('http://www.google.com/search?q=<dtml-var string>')> This obviously won't work because I can't nest DTML tags. Plus, for Google the query URLs have the items in the search string separated by + symbols. Does anyone have any spare Zen for this? I think this would make an interesting How-To, and I promise to write one if I (with whatever help is necessary) get it figured out. BTW, I'd like to avoid Javascript if possible. Bad..very bad

Reply-To: Okay I don't know how I've gone and done such a stupid thing....(working with zope while I was too tired) but I've locked myself out of a folder that has a GUF under it. Do I have any recourse (other than delete the folder which hasa few dtml methods I would rather not recreate) and start over? I've tried undo but I had already packed my database. The __no_before_traverse__ doesn't work with this unfortunatly. Any tips? Or places to look for said tips? Thakns in advance, -- John E. The library loader can't find libmysqlclient.so.6. reading of binary files

Hi, I encountered this problem when my product tries to load image files from the local drive. The code is below: file="blah" ob._setObject(file,OFS.Image.Image(file,file,"","image/gif")) data = f.read() ob._getOb(file).manage_upload(data) This works fine in zope under linux, but in zope under windows, the data is trucated. This is a python problem in windows. f.read() returns a string that is only a fraction of the length of the image file. Is there a way around this problem? Has anybody else encountered this problem? terry
