Crashes after ftp access?

I'm really new to Zope, so please excuse my ignorance. I've been playing around with Zope, and I tried using emacs with angeftp. However, every time I try to connect to the ftp server at 8021, emacs complains that it can't connect. Afterwards, zope dies and I have to restart it again. Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks for any help!

This does not work for reasons that elude me. One would naively think that since GetChoices is in the same location as both the class addForm and the constructor, it would be found by acquisition. The notion of using links in documents to point back to Zope source (and possibly vice versa?) may seem obvious, especially with respect to a Web Centric project like Zope, but it presents a bit of a puzzle. On one hand, Zope brings us a new level of dynamic hypertext, with lot's of wonderful extensions, such as the Catalog, to aid searching, etc. On the other hand the urge to deploy this very technology for the purpose of enhancing the "acquisition" (?!) of Zen smacks us right up against the immaturity of the Web itself. How can the links possibly be kept "fresh", especially with a rate of development as rapid as Zope's? Is "freshness" the sole criteria? What of the historical value of archival code, and documentation? Temporal data integrity may not seem mission critical in this particular instance (Zope as software project), but there are plenty of applications where such criteria are vital. Bobo gave us persistence, Zope gives us integration. Are we ready to tackle the nitty gritty of managing non-tabular data, randomly shifting in four dimensions? Now appears a glimpse of the depths that Ted Nelson addressed in the Xanadu project. It may be time to review the sort of solutions that Xanadu actually applied to tracking documents changing over time. Does anyone have a complete collection of "Byte" from the 80's? There was an excellent article about Xanadu, and a fair exposition of the algorithm. This is getting very interesting!

Newbie question

I recently installed zope, and I am successfully using it to serve some access controlled content, using a simple acl_users folder. This does everything I want, except that I cannot find out how to offer my users the ability to change their passwords on the site. Is this not supported? building a revisitable object list???

Pardon the subject title - it was either that or the alternative "lost in DTML land" ... I'm using nested <dtml-in> blocks to descend two levels into a portion of my ZODB. I'm only interested in the leaf nodes. However, rather than act on them while "visiting", I want to conditionally store a reference to them in a python list so that I can visit any leaf later on. I'll make it clear with a pared-down example. root folder1 subfolder1a subfolder1b folder2 subfolder2a I want to build a list such that I can visit various subfolders without having to search them out. Q1) If I want to be able to visit subfolder1a and subfolder2a from the root, do I need to store the entire path or will some sort of internal ZODB id suffice? Q2) Assuming I need the entire path, I've toyed around with creating a list mylist = [(folder1,subfolder1a),(folder2,subfolder2a)] for which I could presumably then visit the subfolders via <dtml-in mylist><dtml-with "_[sequence-item][0]"> <dtml-with "_[sequence-item][1]"> .... </dtml-with> </dtml-with></dtml-in> I'm having trouble creating this list, my attempt being the root-level DTML snippet: <dtml-in "objectValues(['Folder'])"> <dtml-let level1id=id> <dtml-in "objectValues(['Folder'])"> <dtml-let curloc="(level1id,id)"> <dtml-call "mylist.append(curloc)"> (conditionally called) </dtml-let> </dtml-in> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> In my actual problem, I'm building up multiple lists during this single pass of the tree. OpenFlow 0.2 and some ideas about workflow on Zope

Hi everybody, first of all, just to know everybody that OpenFlow 0.2 has been released. I have included all the relevant portion of a workflow model. The classes defined should allow to build a workflow model in a most complete way. I'd like to suggest, that, as a matter of community policy, all documentation contain links back to the relevant source-code files. The goal is to make it possible for someone reading a source file to conveniently find all relevant documentation about that file (including commentaries in email lists and other forums). At the very least, links could be implemented as a textual mention of the source file. In that case, a search on the source-file name would bring up all relevant documentation. For example, the Chapter 4.II.2 "Zope Publisher" on http://zdp.zope.org/guide/ZBook/Outline/Chapter_2/Part2_4/Part24_2 could terminate with a brief paragraph saying that the ZPublisher is implemented primarily in ../lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py. That way a reader of Publish.py could find the overview of Chapter 4.II.2 when searching on "Publish.py". Another example is at the bottom of my "HowTo: ZClass Properties" (http://www.zope.org/Members/lstaffor/zProperties) I recently added the source-file links after doing some research in the Properties source code, and wishing I could read everything that had been written on the subject. Of course, I could search on "property" or "properties", but that would not result in as focussed a set of results. Documents that are part of some Zope document-management application might even have methods that return lists of relevant source files. That way special source-documentation catalogs could be built (topics?). I am not sure how far we need to go in that direction, though. Ideally the technique for linking and cataloging could be shared by official documents as will as ZDP and individual contributions (such as How-To's). If the technique cannot be shared, at least the policy should be. An idea worth pursuing? -- Loren
