User Access Question

The web site that I'm working on is going to have an area which is only available to users who have registered with the site. Registration will require filling out some simple information and this information will be checked against a master database of allowed users. When a user connects to the site, only certain information will be visible until they login. What sort of tools and techniques can I use with Zope to help simplify this task? For example, how does Zope.org manage it's user base? Are there particular samples/products I should be looking at? Any tips or pointers on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks James W. Zope & FTP problems.

I hvae a Zope server set up and am having problems ftping in as a user other than the superuser. Simple example: I set up a directory called "Test" as superuser and added the user "rayvd" to the acl_users folder and gave this user Owner and Manager permissions as well as adding * to the hostmask. (I also tried without a host mask defined). I can ftp in as "rayvd" and it will accept my password, but when i try and get a file listing or change directories it gives me a 530 Unauthorized error. Any idea what's going on? ftp> open moonbase.wwc 8021 Connected to cs-sa1.wwc. 220 moonbase FTP server (Medusa Async V1.8 [experimental]) ready. User (cs-sa1.wwc:(none)): rayvd 331 Password required. Password: 230 Login successful. ftp> dir 200 PORT command successful. 530 Unauthorized. ftp> cd / 530 Unauthorized. ftp> cd /Test 530 Unauthorized. ftp> Thanks. Ray Van Dolson

What is the Zope front end written in?

As a followup to my question on newbie technology. The Zope front end has two elements that I'd like to use: 1) The splitter bar 2) The "delete" button which dynamically appears. Being a newbie, I don't know how to implement these. DTMLMethod Question

I've got a folder which contains DTMLMethods which are used to format a "news" article in a certain way. One of the methods is responsible for actually displaying the article contents, the others are responsible for generating various navigational components. I'm now designing a new view which is also going to display a news article, plus some other stuff. The major difference is that this view is only going to show a subset of information. I would like to reuse the article display code but I'm not exactly sure how to do it. What I would like to do is retrieve the first N characters from a news article and then have my method format it. Something like: <dtml-var "formattingMethod(???, <dtml-var articleContent size=500>)"> I'm not fluent enough in all the nuances of how you call a DTMLMethod rather than get results via reference/acquisition. I suppose I could pass the length restriction as a parameter and if that parameter didn't exist the full article would be retrieved. I would rather simply pass the article contents and let the method format what it is given. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. James W. using WorldPilot

Anyone using WorldPilot? http://demo.worldpilot.com:8080/site/ I've got it up and running on my Alpha server, but I can't see how to create any local users. The login screen points back to www.worlpilot.org, which is also bad. Zope at the LinuxExpo

I was a speaker at the Linux Expo (Moving 3 tier applications to Linux) and plugged Zope strongly during my talk. (Also had a chance to meet fearless leader Hadar in person at the tucows booth) There was a strong undercurrent of Zope awareness I felt building up and at least on person in my talk later confided to me that every conversation he has had at LinuxExpo about application servers and Java has inevitable ended up being a conversation about Zope! I discovered a few of things of possible interest to the Zope community (not sure if this has been posetd before) a) a site built on Zope called CodeCatalog <http://www.codecatalog.com/about> which has a searchable index of many popular open source source trees such as Linux, gcc .... It has hyperlinked cross references for most symbols. You may need to register to use. b) It undestands C, C++, Python and Java and has the source tree for Python 1.5.2, Mailman, gnome-python, wxPython also (ta-daa) Zope. The "about" page above claims that CodeCatalog is built using Zope - don't know if this means the text search is a Zope product or just the site is a Zope site. The original technology was built by the SourceGear ( ABiSource word processor) guys and sold to OpenAvenue.com ( owners of CodeCatalog.com) just days before LinuxExpo. Unfortunately the CodeCatalog technology appears NOT to be Open Source - perhaps Digital Creations can help with some nudges. Get the all object of a Local File System?

Hello, I trying to get some objects from a Local File System. For this I'm = using the method:=20 "ObjectProps(REQUEST.get('spec',_.None))", but this method only give me = the objects Id. Which method, for Local File System, do I have to use to = can get the all object, instead of theirs properties?
