Hi there, first excuse me, if this idea looks stupid just delete this message: what about adding a new dtml tag called dtml-python useable this way: <dtml-python mypythonmodule> def myfunc(param) : return param * 3 def anotherfunc(p1, p2) return str(myfunc(p1)) + ' ' + str(myfunc(p2)) </dtml-python> <dtml-var mypythonmodule.anotherfunc(3,9)> this would allow to embed python code in dtml files without having to create external methods. using DTML outside of Zope

I'm exploring the possibility of separating the DTML template-parsing engine from Zope and calling it from a C/C++ application running on a Windows machine. I wouldn't be using any other Zope modules (ZODB, ZPublisher, ZServer, etc.). My data would be coming from a database other than the ZODB. It looks like the DTML engine itself is fairly well separated from the rest of the Zope code, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do things like supplying sequences to the <dtml-in> command. All of my database access methods are written in C++ classes; so at some point, the sequence name in the <dtml-in> command should cause one of these methods to be invoked. Has anyone ever done anything like this before? Tip: do scheduled site imports using load_site.py

Problem: -------- You have a certain directory structure that needs to be imported into zope every day. If you just put python z-load_site.py -p /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher -u user:password -v http://zope.site/dir /localdir/* in your crontab, it will fail the second time it runs, because it tries to import objects with id names that are already existing. Solution: --------- One solution could be to wrap the manage_add calls to catch these exceptions (Oleg-way:-). I didn't succeed in doing that, but I found another solution already built into Zope: modify 'def _checkId(self, id, allow_dup=0)' in '/lib/python/OFS/ObjectManager.py' to 'def _checkId(self, id, allow_dup=1)' This auto-overwrites existing objects with the same name. Only drawback: if you upload a directory that way, the existing one is removed + all its contents at that time. Hope this can be useful. PS: I've attached a patch for ObjectManager.py for Zope 2.0.1 (yeah I know, it's old). Healtheon/WebMD presentation from IPC8

upgrading to 2.1.3 and acl_users

Hi, I have performed an upgrade from 2.0.0 tot 2.1.3. (Windows NT) by copying the data.fs.* to the var directory of the new Zope install. Both services were stopped during copy. All went well, but in all acl_users folders the passwords appear to have disappeared: in the manage screen of acl_users, the password and confirm fields are empty. However, the site functions as it should: where required access is only granted after inputting the original password that belonged to a user in the 2.0.0-version. Does anybody have a clue about what could have happened, respectively whether this is a forerunner of trouble? cb

Hello Looking for zope calendar advice and ideas.. Design goal: A Zope smart-calendar product which allows very interactive setting and display of calendars in a range of formats. Features: - version 1: HTML only - version 2: FLASH [ready to pass values to and from flash interface] - XML formatting of user_calendars #allow structured loading and saving of user calendar data - XMLRPC methods to allow group calendars to talk to each other and have an 'invisible' toggle. - Allow user permissions to modify what is shown, how it appears etc - Users can select a range of days and then assign forms, URLs, images, text - methods include: 'on_select', 'on-click',..'link to selected', 'link_to_first', 'e-mail_selection', etc . As an example, see the excellent Sheridan Calendar Widgets ActiveX components http://www.sheridan.com feature a trio of day, week, month, year controls and properties which allow wide variation in the style and presentation of these. Fast and pretty easy to use. If anyone has seen any good-looking and good-running calendars in HTML, Java, Zope, ???, then please let me know. I have played with Behive's Calendar product and it may be a matter of extending that, but I would love to hear of other work planned or ongoing, plus any ideas you may have about the requirements/interest for implementing such a creature. Formatted date anomaly ...

Here's a strange one. I have a property StartDate (type date) set to "01/01/2000". Can someone please explain why the DTML snippet: <dtml-var StartDate> <dtml-var StartDate fmt="%Y"> renders as: 2000/01/01 1999 (More info on Zope formatting of dates and times can be found in the HowTo: http://www.zope.org/Members/AlexR/CustomDateFormats) Cheers, Darran.

Data.fs corrupted.

Zope Database Size

At what point does it make sense to store data outside of the ZODB? For example, I have a site which wants to have access to a news article archive. If the articles were stored in Zope, the ZCatalog searching would make this task almost trivial. I'm concerned about the size of the database, however. The archives may go back several years and represent information from a weekly news publication. I have a sample archive of one "issue" which constitutes about 130k of raw text (no graphics at this point). I expect that a typical "issue" may be around 130k - 200k. If I store that information in Zope, probably as instances of a ZClass with properties to hold some information and perhaps DTMLMethods to hold the many article content, how many weeks of archive information could I reasonably store in Zope before the thing would become too big? This archive solution is likely to be replaced in the future so I'm interested in finding a solution which is simple and quick to implement but will provide adequate performance for my users. Difference between manage_addProperty on a DTMLDocument and on a Folder ? Folder ?

I have the following problem : When I execute this code : <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('compteur_login', _.str(compteur) )"> <dtml-call "manage_addFolder(id=compteur_login)"> <dtml-call "_[compteur_login].manage_addProperty('type', 'FC', 'string')"> The Folder is created with the property 'type' But when I execute this code : <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('compteur_login', _.str(compteur) )"> <dtml-call "manage_addDTMLDocument(id=compteur_login)"> <dtml-call "_[compteur_login].manage_addProperty('type', 'FC', 'string')"> I have the following error : Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: 'string' object has no attribute 'manage_addProperty' It seems that manage_addProperty doesn't behave the same way on a Folder and a DTMLDocument .
