Access Violation for an NT Service

Hi! I have deployed Zope 2.1.3 (with a home-compiled version of PIL) on Windows NT 4.0 Advanced Server. It runs fine from start.bat, but when I try to start the service, I get an access violation from PythonService.exe. For some odd reason, Dr. Watson reports that the access violation comes from "pythonservice.e.exe". Perhaps that could be related to the problem? ZCatalog TextIndex

Hi, I have setup a TextIndex on the description attribute, but I cannot find any objects when searching. This is the syntax I am using: <dtml-in "Catalog(description='blah')"> I know that atleast one of my ZCatalog aware instances has a description attribute='blah'. If I change the index to a FieldIndex, I can search for description='blah' and find the object! What am I doing wrong. Patch for Custom upload hook.

When using webdav and other upload techniques it is not possible to customize what object a file is uploaded as. This patch will determine if a hook function named ManageUploadHook is present in the aquisistion path and if it is, use it to handle the file creation process. If it returns 1 the file was created, else the normal process is followed. Zope is awesome! (Just had to get that off of my chest. :) First of all, I'm not subscribed to this list. Please CC me with any responses; my inbox is just too full to justify subscribing to another list at the moment. :) A few weeks ago, I was having problems interfacing Zope with Roxen. Once I had accomplished that, I began working on redoing my homepage in Zope. Granted, using Zope for a personal webpage is overkill, but I learned lots about Zope in the process. I also like how I can immediately change the appearance of all of my pages, dynamically generate content and such without mucking about with CSS/CGI. Now I'm starting work on another Zope project. Last Christmas I began searching for a web-based system to catalog and play MP3's. I wanted something which would allow me to catalog MP3's, play them, search my collection, etc. I also wanted to stream MP3's to other computers, dynamically create low-bitrate streams for listening to my collection at home over a dial-in line, for example. I searched and, though I found some promising code, none of it did what I wanted. So, I started writing my own system. My first incarnation of code used Icecast for streaming, and since it was an Icecast-based jukebox I decided to call it Icebox. Icebox was a combination of PHP, Python and PostgreSQL though, and considering the fact that I didn't know much about PostgreSQL or PHP at the time, 2/3 of it was rather cludgy. It did the job, though. :) After discovering Zope, I decided to try rewriting Icebox as a one-piece solution. You'd only need to untar a tarball into your library directory and follow a few more Zope-based steps (see below) to get the thing working. This would be much easier than copying PHP pages into a specific page beneath your server root, setting up PostgreSQL and the needed tables, . . . So I rewrote Icebox's database layer to use ZODB, and began organizing the code into a Python package. I'm having a few issues, though. Rewriting Icebox's database layer to use ZODB was easy, but I'm running into a minor problem. I'm using MP3 objects which contain artist, title and album information about an MP3. The files are indexed in a ZODB using their paths as keys. When the Icebox command line utility runs and begins streaming an MP3, *.lock/.tmp files are left in the directory where the databases reside. This prevents the code from running again, since ZODB thinks that its databases are locked. I've tried calling close() methods on the database and root, but this doesn't work. Is the get_transaction().commit()'s absence causing the lock files to remain? The database's contents appear to be changing, though. I have one final question. I'd like to distribute Icebox when it is complete, but I'm confused about how. Icebox isn't exactly a product; it is more of a complete site which is intended to be dropped in as is, or changed after installation. I think I recall seeing a directory where packages could be installed and their methods could be called as external methods in Zope. Would it be best to just build a tarball which is meant to unpack into this directory from the Zope root, and to export my site and distribute the results? Or, is there a better method for distributing complete sites? (Or, is my understanding of products completely flawed? I imagined them as collections of ZClasses, which Icebox is not.) newbie wants technology advice

Since I've had such good luck posting to Zope, I'll try this one. I'm new to Zope and web technology but am pretty comfortable with Python and programming in general, but don't yet know Java. I want to put up a web page that has edit controls which appear dynamically as needed (a clumsy list editor of sorts). A second thing I want to do is drag and drop, but not text. I want to be able to drag icons around and do things depending on where they are dropped. It goes without saying that I want to do this in a Zope generated document. So the question is, what technology do I need to do this? Obviously static HTML isn't good enough. I doubt, but don't know if DTML can do it. I don't want each of the drag and drop icons to be submit buttons, because going back to the server after each drag and drop would be unacceptably slow. Do I need applets? Do I need Java? The sort of thing I need, but a little more complicated is like the paste button in the Zope workspace that dynamically appears after a cut or copy operation. I looked at the HTML and there appears to be a reference to Java. So again, what technology do I need to 1) make edit type controls dynamically appear 2) allow client side drag and drop of things other than text. ...And of course to do it within Zope. thanks, Danny __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Use of images in Zope

I know this is probably a very recurring question, but if given enough insight into it, I volunteer to make a How-To out of it to point out the nest time it comes up. Here it is: Can someone enlighten me to the DTML way of using images in Zope? I understand you can use a <dtml-var someimage> or <dtml-var "path.someimage">, but is there a way to have more control over how it would be rendered, i.e. with specifying attributes and values, as well? Python.exe causes an exception in NT

Zope/Zserver died today on my test machine when a remote user performed a sql query that returned most of the 40Mb of the database. This was basically searching for the letter 'A' about the description fields. I am using NT4 sp5 with 128Mb ram, and Zope 2.1.2 NT monitor showed that memory usage only climbed to 50%. On the 2nd 'next 50 records', Zserver/Zope dies with a python.exe exception. I can consistently reproduce this. Still can't add photo programmatically

I'm very confused as to why I can add Photo objects via a URL such as http://localhost:8080/Intranet/Stuff/manage_addProduct/Photo/manage_addPhoto (with proper 'arguments' of course) yet calling <dtml-call "PARENTS[0].manage_addProduct.Photo.manage_addPhoto(PARENTS[0],'id', '', 'title', REQUEST)"> fails.
