Newbie question - product embedding

Hello, I am just evaluating the Zope system, and it looks good. I am trying to build an example Intranet site, using Squishdot. I need a poll embedded in one of the Squishboxes. I tried both PMPPoll product and Poll product, but cannot get it to render into the page. I have a DTML method calling the poll object like this ... some simple HTML ... <br> <dtml-var name="my_sample_poll"> <br> .. some more simple HTML ... The simple HTML indeed appears in the box, but instead of the poll form, which I expect to be rendered, I get the following in the page source : <br> <Survey instance at 8635589> <br> Am I missing something obvious? Should I call the object from within my DTML method some other way? Thanks for your help. Michal Bukovjan

Problems with ZCatalog-indexing

Hello all, I've got some problems with indexing in ZCatalog. First of all it doesn't seem possible to index words containing any non-ascii characters (most important german umlauts). On zope.org the only info on charactersets I found was, that there are some supported ones, but I couldn't find out which these are. How is it possible to have a correct indexed catalog on a german site ? The second problem is related with the first one, but not restricted to german characters. Words where a hyphen appears, e.g. names like 'Hans-Dietrich', aren't indexed at all, in the example 'Hans-Dietrich' cannot be found on the site, but 'Hans' or 'Dietrich' cannot be found, either. If I cannot fix these Problems, the ZCatalog is unusable in the site, as there are a lot of important keywords using umlauts or containig hyphens. Squishdot error.

Hello all, I've exported my www.linuxmednews.com site from my home machine where I developed it (and on which it was working fine) to my ISP's Zope. For some reason I'm getting the following error. External Method2

using MySQLdb 0.1.2

Yellow, I don't know about all you but I'm trying to use MySQLdb 0.1.2 on NT4 + SP6a + Zope 2.1.4 The Installation Instructions aren't to precise on using it on win32 platforms and Zope doesn't show me the MySQLdb on the product list. Is there some special steps to install it on NT? Ben, Hi... This topic is probably better suited for the main Zope mailing list so I moved my reply to it there. Err... we'd all love to see better docs written for this process. Maybe you can write them once you get it done. :-) No, Zope does not necessarily need to be installed from source, but I think the MySQLdb stuff needs python include libraries. Can you give more specific questions about your problem? My advice here is not based on work with Zope, but on years of painful RDBMS experience: I do *not* recommend storing large BLOBs in any existing RDBMS -- they aren't built for them, and generally make your life miserable when you try. Most of the reasons you would choose to use an RDBMS (performance, replication, stability, searchability, etc.) don't apply when it comes to large BLOBs; you are still much better off storing the "BLOB" in a filesystem somewhere, and then storing a path/URL to it in the RDBMS. With Zope, BLOBs present another issue: because they aren't standardized, each RDBMS has a proprietary API for BLOBS; the Zope database adapter therefore has to have custom code for each RDBMS, making the BLOB code one of the likeliest sources of weird, hard-to-reproduce bugs I can think of. In short, *don't go there*. Really, I'm serious. Tres. P.S. External Method

I want to make an external method which does the following : iterates over all the parents, if a parent is of a certain type, the title must be added to a list. However I don't know how to iterate over an object (ZClass) it's parents in Python/Zope. Who created this object?

Hi, I'm in the process of cleaning up our production Zope server and I've found a folder which has one file in it. I don't know who created either of them and I'm wondering if they're redundant. I'd like to find out who created the both the folder and the file and, if possible, when it was last created. How do I go about doing this? Cheers for any help, Chris
