I had difficulties compiling the ZMysqlDA with egcs on my Redhat 6.0 and 6.1 respectivly Mandrake 6.1 and 7.0. A friend of mine compiled a version for me with an old version of gcc and that worked well for me. If you like to, I'll send you the compiled version, just ask... Andy Pahne ap(a)net22.net

long-time difficulties using Oracle 8i

There's something that I forgot to mention: In the Product-Management-Section of my interfache I find the broken ZOracleDA. some additional data points on those crashes: in my test setup (CVS checkout using ZOracleDA) i found the following ways to avoid crashing: - using Pavlos' cure (setting DEBUG=1 in asyncore.py) - manually closing the oracle database connection or deleting it (which renders the membership components of my site useless since all that info is in oracle) - calling the offending page directly in a python interpreter by talking to ZPublisher and circumventing ZServer my suspicion is some weird interaction between the database adapter and ZServer. jens ---- Jens Vagelpohl jens(a)digicool.com Software Engineer www.digicool.com Digital Creations (888) 344-4332 Got Zope? ----

Hi there, I'm trying hard to make my Oracle8i (Oracle 8.1.5.0.1) for Linux on Redhat 6.0 with Python 1.52 plus python-devel installed from rpms and Zope 2.1.6 talk to each other... As I understand so far, I first have to build the extension modules used by DCOracle. And then Install the ZOracleDA Right? newbie question - handling strings

Hi there, I've got an 8-character string, say str='12345678'. With <dtml-var str> ofcourse I get 12345678. How can I display only part of it ? Say the first 4 chars (1234) or the next 2 (56) or the last two (78). In python I know this can be done with something like str[:4], str[4:6] and str[6:]. Any help ? MailHost Error Handling

I have set up a form for people to send an email to someone else from the website. They put in a from and a to email address. It will take any "to" email but if the "from" email address does not exist it returns the error "Recieved error code 501 from SMTP: 501 ... Sender domain must exist " I have used <dtml-try> but it does not work. Anyone have another way to handle this error? Thanks, J

Accessing ZSQL connection from external method

Howdy! I'm making heavy use of MySQLdb in my external methods. Now I just realized that ZSQL-connections are kept open permanently and it would save a lot of time if I wouldn't have to open a connection each time my external method is invoked but use the already existing ZSQL-connection instead. My question: How can I access a ZSQL-connection (ZMySQLDA) from an external method? --Ragnar P.S.: I benchmarked MySQLdb and found that opening a connection took 1.2ms on my systen whereas a very short request for authentication took only 1.1ms. So beeing able to use an existing connection would result in about 100% performance gain (at least at first glance).

Weird Security Problem

This I cannot understand, what's new ;-) I've mocked it up in the attached .zexp if anyone wants to try it out themselves. I have a site with a subfolder. This is private and so has 'view' permission only to a 'user' role and the usual 'manager' role. I have a file, index_html in the mockup, in this subfolder, which includes an image called 'black' from the root of the site. The root folder has 'view' granted to the anonymous user. I added my users with the 'user' role, user1 in the mockup - password 'user1', to the subfolder's acl_users . However, when I went to view the subfolder and logged in as user1, the page loaded fine, except for the 'black' image. I was asked to authenticate again but the only way I could get past this was to use user2, password 'user2', who has manage access to the whole site. This is really confusing as 'black' comes from the root of the site, which is viewable by even the anonymous user, and viewing the black image on its own in another browser session, even using the URL from the HTML generated for the subfolder index_html, worked fine and no authentication was requested. Obviously giving these users manager access to the whole site was unacceptable. I managed to solve the problem, see user3 - password 'user3' in the mockup, by creating the user in the root acl_users folder and giving them no roles. Then, giving them 'user' as a local role in subfolder. I've tried this with Zope 2.1.4 and 2.1.6 on Linux and NT4, Netscape 3.04, Netscape 4.7 and Explorer 5.1 all with the same result. Anyone know what's going on? Chris

Zope and Windows NT 2000

Hello, i'm testing Zope 2.1.6 with Windows NT 2000. Everything is running fine but... it's slow updating the internal database. Each time you press the "Change" button the wait is 30 seconds! On the same machine with Windows98SE and Linux there is no wait. All the other operations are working without any problems of speed. Is there anyone else who tried Zope with Nt2000? Thanks, Bruno
