Has anyone managed/bothered to get Zope working with Apache on NT yet? If they have, could you point me at any documentation? This is intended as a quick fix until I can get round to installing Linux on my machine.. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Kindest, I was wondering about a few points I havn't seen any references to. Are there any implementations in Zope that can verify the validity of an url? That is; 1) A link database is generated .. and should be maintained. 2) A process should be run at least once a week to check the validity of links in the database. 3) If the link is not "valid" .. it sets a tag in the db which says it's untrusted .. which again could show that in the link listed on the web through Zope. 4) .. and if it's untrusted for N runs .. it is removed. .. have anyone looked into that? .. and anyone made any conclusions as to how one can solve that? I am not that familiar with Python .. but I might be interested in generating such an engine.. based on Zope / mySql of some sorts. .. Perl support would really make me happy right now! Proposal for mail-in to Zope

Hi, We (NIP - in the form of Chris Withers, Stephen Harrison, and Simon Coles) have put some thought into the question of how to get emails into Zope, and have come up with a design which we thought we'd pass by the list before we start doing something. The problem we are trying to solve is basically being to email "something(a)myserver.me.com" and that email ends up in the Zope ZODB processed in whatever way is appropriate. We aren't worried about sending email, that's done well at the moment. We also wanted to keep things as simple and quick as possible :-) This means trying to avoid getting involved with mail systems as much as we can. Most MTAs can be setup to pass an email to the stdin of a program. Sendmail will do this, and Exim (http://www.exim.org/) will also pay attention to what that program returns and queue the message for re-try later if it fails. So using Exim, we don't have to get into any messy stuff about queuing mails if the Zope server is down. Some alternatives we considered and didn't go for: - write something in Zope to listen for SMTP connections, effectively large portions of an MTA. This would be cool but painful. - pull mail from a POP or IMAP server. This had the downside that it introduced polling into the system (slow) and also required something to happen on a schedule, which doesn't happen in Zope yet. So: - Within Exim, use the "pipe" transport to get email for a particular host sent to a program on the standard input. If the program called returns certain codes then Exim will queue the message and try again. - This program takes the email message and puts it into Zope, probably by calling a DTML Method or something. This would probably be configured by objects in the Zope ZODB which say effectively "When you get email for this address, then call this Method". - The DTML Method is responsible for doing the right things to get the email message into the ZODB in whatever form is appropriate. We haven't yet figured out how to make sure the above mail handling program can find all the relevant configuration documents. Is there some way of efficiently finding all instances of a particular ZClass? (Chris W. still isn't sure that's how the configuration will work but that's the plan for the moment, so any thoughts would be appreciated) What we'll do is a first version that hard codes everything in the above script and prove the principle of the thing, and then move onto the configuration. Does this sound like what people need? Any thoughts, comments, warnings? I don't know yet what kind of schedule we'll be able to do this on but drop me a mail and when there's something to play with we'll let you know. Q: Namespace, Acquisition, and Properties

Greetings, I've dug around, but not found (or not grokked) the solution to this particular puzzle. Could someone more knowledgeable provide a little enlightenment? In the top level folder (root) I have a dtml method title template that contains html code and dtml vars that are (intended to be) populated by properties of various subfolders as well as a value or two passed directly. The title template is "called" from dtml methods in the root and sub-folders using something like: <dtml-var "title_block(app_screen = 'Main Screen')"> I have no problem getting at the title template from any of the dtml methods. (Thanks to acquistion, yes?) However, I get Zope KeyErrors indicating that the title template is not seeing the sub-folder properties in its namespace, when I plug the above code into a dtml method contained in one of those sub- folders. The rest (like app_title) was intended to be grabbed from the folder/sub-folder properties I set up for that purpose. So, two questions: 1. Is there a simple way to pass the appropriate sub-folder properties namespace from a dtml method contained in that sub-folder to the title_block dtml method contained in the root folder? An example would be tremendously helpful. 2. Is there a better way to do what I'm trying to do? New Product - old error

Hi All, I hope someone can help, I'm about to tear my hair out and toss my PC out of the window. I am basically trying to make my own Image class, by copying the one in OFS and renaming a few bits and bobs. In a frenzy of broken products, I copied one of the supporting classes from OFS to my new dir OffS (original huh?) quickly realizing I should just change the code. Zope LDAP Browser/Editor

Hi, I wrote in my spare time a LDAP browser with Zope. You can try it at www.xlogx.org/Zygopetale (it's available in french & english). You can try it with the default parameters or with an LDAP database of your own (with write access ?...). Please don't rely on my server's speed, it's hidden behind a 64k ISDN connexion. BTW, if someone wants to host it with a better sever, I do agree ! It took... say... 20 hours to learn LDAP and to build the whole tool (with its current limitations). Zope is actually a very very very powerful web server. P.-J.

Zope NT service Vs data_dir

Hi zopers :-) I've hacked globals.py to change the var data_dir to point to a shared disk I have. I restarted zope and the Globals.pyc was compiled. Zope runs ok but only from the command line. The Zope Service it is no more :-( When I start it the process tries to live but want go further than 2Mb memory not starting zope :-( Any help? ZClass question

Hi, I'm currently trying to store all of the Medicine School (I work for) events in Zope, using the Calendar product to store them. I've created from my browser a Zclass which has a propertysheet and some properties in it, and some DTML methods. I've called this class GenericEvent. I want to create 4 or five other Zclasses which only differ from the first one by their meta type and the value (not the name) of one of their properties. For example I want to create ExamEvents, CoursesEvents, and so on... Then I want to give permissions to some people to add some type of events in the database. For example I want John to be able to add (and delete) both GenericEvents and ExamEvents, while I want Jane to only be allowed to add CoursesEvents, and not be allowed to delete CoursesEvents she hasn't created. I've created my GenericEvent ZClass and it works fine, thanks to Jason Spisak, but now when I try to create other ZClasses deriving from this ZClass I can't choose it as the base class for the new classes. Can I do that from my browser (How ?) or must I do it in python ? If it's not possible I plan to add the event type as a property of GenericEvent, but then how can I deal with the different permissions I need ? thanks in advance for any hint.
