Calling objects from Python script

I would like to call an object that is passed to a python script. I run into a problem because __call__() takes different parameters depending on what type of object it is. For example DTML Documents take (client, REQUEST) and python scripts can take different parameters depending on how they are defined. customize ZMI to hide objects?

How would I customize the ZMI to hide objects such as the Control Panel and DTML methods from certain user roles? We are building a website where users will change the content using the ZMI. We do not want the users seeing the Control Panel, DTML methods, or Python scripts since this would just confuse them. We just want the users to be able to see and edit the ZClasses that we have created for them. I have tried to look through the code, and I'm pretty sure I will have to modify some DTML code from the base Zope installation, but I'm not sure which files I will have to change. - Eric

DCOracle/DCOracle2 on Debian Linux - invalid connection string

Hello, I'm trying to use either DCOracle 1.32 or DCOracle 2 beta 5 to connect to a remote Oracle 7.3.2 database. My Zope installation is on a machine that has the Oracle client successfully installed on it and it's working.. When I connect using sqlplus and my usual connection string lets say scott/tiger@boko (the remote machine) everything is hunky-dory.. However, nomatter what I try, I cannot get Zope to successfully open a database connection.. It reports an invalid connection string. DCOracle 1.32 tested out okay and DCOracle2 compiled successfully.. so I think both installations were done correctly.. however.. when trying to add a database connection, I always get... "Invalid connection string: scott/tiger@boko" I am using Zope 2.3.3 (the most recent version for which there is a deb available) on Debian woody. Its a fairly vanilla install with DCOracle2 (or DCOracle, when that was installed) being the only 3rd party add-on. Ive added the relevant environmental variables in the startup scripts and I hope I am doing things corectly but due to the lack of specifics relevant to the fairly nonstandard way things are installed on Debian linux I'm not sure if they were added in the right places.. If anyone has an idea of what might be wrong, I'd be very grateful. Ive been banging on this off and on for weeks and have tried every possible approach mentioned on previous posts to this list and none of them have worked.. I get the same connection string problem with both DCOracles. If anyone has any ideas of what might be wrong, please help, I *need* to get this working.. Thank you. Chris chris @ msri . org

No "To:..." header in mails sent by python scripts

Hi, I send a mail using the script showed at : http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/991178206 It works but there is no "To" header in the mails sent using this method. Any clue to fix it ? Thanks in advance --Gilles

Test whether ZClass lines type property is empty

ZClass "lines" type property is a "list" in Python. If there are no values, it should render IMHO as an empty list in Python: [] But it renders as a list containing single item. Something like: [""] Consequently, len(variable) is 1, whether there is one line or no lines. I cannot use <dtml-if "_.len(variable)>0"> to see if there are values. How can I discover if the list is empty without computationally expensive constructs? -- Milos Prudek

ZMI: Script (Python) cannot be tested

In Zope 2.4.1 (at least), it is impossible in ZMI to test a Python Script, if the Script returns 0 (integer zero). Such scripts run fine when used, but they can't be tested in the ZMI. Scripts usually IMHO use 0 to indicate "false", and 1 to indicate "true". ZMI testing works fine if string values "0" and "1" are returned. Unfortunately, both "1" and "0" are considered "true" in python. Therefore the only workaround is to return empty string to indicate "false". -- Milos Prudek

Namespace of calling document

I've looked around google for an hour at least but I can't find the answer to this very simple question: How do I access the namespace of the calling object. Say that I have standard_html_header like so: <html> <dtml-var title> and document foo: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <p> yadda yadda</p> Now when foo is renderded it will display the title of standard_html_headed. How do I get it to output the title of foo? In other words: how do I access the namespace of the calling in the called document? I don't know if 'document' is the correct Zope speak, but I think you all get the question. o

Why is a helpfull and stable product like BtreeFolder not in Zope Core
