Hi, I've put an object in Zope named default.ida and containing: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('http://127.0.0.1')"> which seems to have stopped Code Red from being a problem. My next question is, how do I block Nimda? I need a wildcard or regexp document which will intercept any URL including "cmd.exe" or "root.exe". what is error_message and how do I alter it??

I am trying to improve the usability of the standard_error_message for a public site. like adding a search, suggestions for what users might be looking for, etc. However this part of the standard_error_message has stumped me. <dtml-if error_message> <dtml-var error_message> <dtml-else> I have read the one how-to I could find and some threads, but no real solutions. What is error_message? Where does the autoformatting come from, and how do I alter it? Can I modify it to just grab the error and not all the other Zope stuff? Is there a library of these error messages that can be modified to provide better information for users to find what they are looking for. they come from somewhere? Formulator allows you to customize your error messages. Shouldn't this be as open? Why is this so stealthy compared to the rest of Zope? Why should I have to turn off debugging for tracebacks to be commented out in the HTML? If it is an object, then I can include it or not in my standard_error_message, right. So if I have error_tb in my standard_error_message, then it renders, if not - it's hidden. Why isn't it treated like an object like the rest of Zope? I cannot find any products that handle error_messages or address user usability. Sorry for the rant. I am new to Zope. ;) Am I missing something? Thanks for the help, Trevor

Q: Product adding Properties and Objects

Is there any special syntax for a Zope Product (not a ZClass) to add, say, a File object? context.manage_addFile(id=file_id, file=file, title=title, content_type='application/msword') ..doesn't work. Zope complained about "context". I have seen code that, for a DTML Document, uses "ob = DTMLDocument(data, __name__ = id). Unfortunately, I don't know the corresponding syntax for a File object. Any hints? TIA, Ron

Pointers in the ZODB

Hi all, I need to store pointers in the ZODB. Pretty basic requirement. Two questions: 1. Is there any thing to watch out for by storing the same object in two different locations in the ZODB? For example: bigobject = BigObject(id) some_path._setObject('id1', bigobject) some_other_path._setObject('id2', bigobject) Seems to work fine, but what does it actually mean? The same object stored twice in the ZODB, with different acquisition/persistence wrappers around it? 2. Given the multitude of ways you can access objects in Zope, the semantics of pointers are not very clear: do you store the pointer, or a symbolic link (the path) to the object. In the latter case, how do you write a wrapper that just delegates all to the other object? (Overriding __getattr__ is not recommended, and __getitem__ isn't enough.) All in all, the choices seem to be: - level: URL redirect or object link - type: symbolic or hard - acqusition: first remote, then local first local, then remote remote, then none local, then none none Am I misunderstanding something? Anyone written a multipurpose "pointer" or link class that allows you to configure all of these run-time? Regards, -- Bjorn

Newbie question about ZCatalog

I am attempting to go through the zope tutorial on building a searchable job board. I have implemented it and deleted it three times with the same result each time, I can post, search, get search results and view the jobs, but the search returns everything in the database, regardless of the search criteria. I created my "Catalog", added my "Metadata" items, added my "Indexes" items, disabled sub-transactions, created the ZCatalog search interface, set the report style to tabular, created my entry_search and entry_report documents. I set the proxy on my entry_addProcessor to manager, and changed the securitysetting on the Job_Board/entries folder to anonymous for "Add Job Board Entries" Has anyone out there attempted this tutorial on Version 2.4? I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Michael

Sequence help

All: I'm trying to get the below to show only the first five items, then place a link to the next five if they exist. However it seems that the way I doing this it counts all the records with dtml-in causing me to get a list of 3 when I want five with a link to the next 5 only to get nothing. Assuming you use a mounted non-undo storage and a Session Data Container, I assume that either the bsddb3 packless storage or the older db2-based non-undo Berkeley DB storage would be able to scale well enough to handle a container full of a bunch of sessions for quite a long time (days, weeks, months?), provided that your session id manager (cookie exp) and your data containers have synced expiration times. Instead, they send an empty order. I guess I should handle this in my application by not allowing it to be sent at the end when the cart is empty. They're already not allowed to checkout when the cart is empty, but I wrongly assumed the user would add items to their cart and checkout in the same sitting. That was stupid of me considering I just did a similar thing the other day. I wanted to "sleep on it" to make sure I got everything I needed in one shipment. In addition to fixing my application, is there any reason not to make the session timeout a large number, like 2 days? Accessing File Object Contents in Python Script

Does anyone know how to access the contents of a File object (i.e., the file itself) from within a python script. o.file or o.contents doesn't work. The idea is to be able to run the file contents through some post-loading processing on the contents of the file. Incidentally, the Zope API only has getContentType() and getSize(), not the document itself. If you happen to know where in the Zope source this might be found, I'd be happy to know. grepping "file" is a slow and arduous way to go. Thanks everyone, Ron
