Hi, I'm currently having a little problem with properties handling : I have several folders : - /folder1 - /folder1/folder2 - /news The "news" folder contains an "append" DTML Method which is using a property defined in "folder1" and "folder2". But : - if I call /folder1/news/append, the DTML method uses the property value stored for folder1 => OK - if I call /folder1/folder2/news/append, the DTML method uses the property value stored for folder2 => BAD !! Is there any way to handle properties like this correctly ?? Thanks, Thierry

Cyclic dtml-mehtod call

Hello everybody, just a quick question: is it possible in ZOPE to run a dtml-method in a cyclic mode ? For example every hour or at 9.00AM etc. ? Or is there a ZOPE product that do this ? That would be great. Thaks in advance Florian Schuler

freebsd/zope2.4.1 problem

Hello! I've been happily running zope2.3.0/python2.0 on a freebsd 3.5 installation, apart form occasional crashes that I couldn't fix. So I got myself zope2.4.1 and python2.1.1 packages from freebsd.org and got down to installing 'em. I had to specify a /usr2/local prefix for both installations due to server space requirements...python seemed quite happy, but I had to change zope's start script to accommodate the new path. I then tried the start script, and it gave a traceback similar to the one below, except that some of the paths still used 'usr' instead of 'usr2'. So I ran '/usr2/local/bin/python wo_pcgi.py' to see if it would help. Its a python problem, right? Should I install python from source? Argh! I tried that initially, but got myriads of problems with it not able to compile _cursessomethingsomething, not finding wchar.h, etc etc....besides, then I'll have to force install the zope package, since it won't find the python package...so I'd have to use the zope source too....which I'll do, but maybe somebody can spare me some time by explaining what's going on... ...or maybe this post should go to alt.freebsd or somewhere if its a freebsd problem, or python mailing list, I just don't know... thnx! gerrie

ZTables and/or Catalog plugable brains?

I'm in the process of of write a zope product that will deal with a lot numerical data (records with a few ids and a few float values). Rightly or wrongly (comments welcome) I've decided to do this inside the ZODB rather than rely on a relation database. This is largely because this data will - not be high-write - I want to do processing on all this of this data on multiple servers - and I am presuming that at some point in the not too distant future zope will let me replicate this data very easily to make it even more highly available. I tried using ZClasses but it seems to run slow and take up space. Instead I'm using Catalog (without ZCatalog) to contain the data. I'm presuming this will be quite efficient (comments welcome). Now to my question, How do Catalog plugable brains work? I've looked but can't see what the brain class has to look like to work. My first attempts don't seem to work. The classes are created but don't contain the data. Is the record data passed into the constructor? Also in my searches I came across lots of references to something called ZTables. This seems to be a Catalog with a UI that is about lots of tabular information (rather than a ZCatalog which is specialized to replicating and indexing existing objects). Is this dead? If not where is it? If so, why? It seems like a really good idea to me. It seems to be there are times when objects (esp ZClasses) are too heavy? Anyone with comments about how ZPatterns fits into all of this would also be welcome.

weird permissions behaviour

I have just been out to a client of mine that uses Zope 2.3.3 on Windows 2000. They found that all of a sudden nobody was able to view part of their site. I did some checking and found that they were getting permissions errors on all sorts of obscure things. In one case they got permission denied on a particular value returned from a db query. The permissions on the query were ok, and they could run the query, but could access one of the values returned. No matter what user/roles were used. In another case they were denied access to the 'title' property of a DTML document, but access to all the rest of the document was ok. After about 2 hours of frustration. I exported this section of the site out to .xml then imported it back again. This fixed everything and all is ok now. I have no explanation of what happened, if anybody does that would be nice. Also, if someone experiences the same thing, export/import is a potential fix. Tom

privledges to MySQL database

I have a MySQL database I want users to be able to edit on a per *record* basis. Essentially, each database record is an entry about a person, and I want that person to be able to edit their own record. I can see how I can do it on a per column or per table basis from within MySQL, but not on a per record basis. I wonder if I could write a method that would take care of this issue. thanks for any tips Kevin

dtml-tree question

I've hit the documentation, and looked at several examples, but I haven't found what is needed. The following code is an attempt to have a tree tag show the Folders and DTML Documents. However, I want to put a hyperlink only to the DTML Documents (not the Folders).
