Problem passing parameters to a Python Script

I'm passing some paramters from an HTML form to a python script. I'm having trouble determining exactly which parameter is/isn't being passed to a python script. I get an error message saying "Zope Error" "Resource not found" along with a few troubleshooting suggestions -- but nothing else. Yes, I do know what the form is passing, and yes it does jive with the parameter list. Is something else going on? Is there a way to determine which parameter is causing the problem (i.e., get a more descriptive error message)? TIA, Ron

ZPT is supposed to make it easier for a site designer to design stuff without caring how it works, while a site developer makes it work without caring how it looks. It doesn't magically enable you to avoid needing a developer if you need a developer. But CMF is supposed to let you set up a portal without being much of a developer. So in theory, it's possible to do what you want. In practice, CMF and ZPT have not been used together until recently and there just isn't any documentation of the sort you're looking for. You'll be pioneering a new technique, travelling in a hurry without a road map. I wouldn't want to be in your shoes. If you can look at a demo CMF site and imagine what you want each part to say, that's helpful. If you want something to *behave* slightly differently than how it does in CMF... that takes code. So here's what I suggest. It might be a long shot, but it might be worth a try. You need to customize a CMF skin. Skins exist to make it easier to change the look of a CMF site. Partly so users can select their favorite skin, but partly also to make it easier for you and me to create a new look. Unfortunately, what you need is a ZPT skin, and CMF doesn't come with one by default. You need the CMFDecor product. And that brings up another problem... You can currently only get the CMFDecor product (as far as I can tell) from CVS. You can browse it at cvs.zope.org, but to download you'll need a cvs program. Never heard of CVS? I suspect you don't have time for that now. Ask me and I'll mail you a copy of CMFDecor. Once you have CMFDecor in your zope Products directory, follow these instructions: http://cmf.zope.org/Members/teyc/skinPageTemplate/view That will set you up with all the skin ZPT files on your filesystem, so you can edit them there and not have to deal with WebDav or FTP or whatever. Changes you make should appear on the running zope site. I think. Be careful to keep an unmodified copy of CMFDecor around in case you screw something up by accident. Now, on the filesystem, look around in CMFDecor/skins. In particular, look in zpt_content, zpt_control, and zpt_generic. Most things you want are probably in zpt_generic. For example, main_template.pt is probably the one you care the most about. It changes how everything else looks: where the menus go and what they look like, etc. This template also makes use of a css stylesheet, zpt_stylesheet.css. actions_box.zpt is the box that shows your user name and any actions the user can take on the current page, like logging out, changing your preferences, etc. index_html.pt is the portal home page. I haven't figured out all the rest yet - I'm just looking at this stuff now. It's important to understand that with Page Templates, an individual page might not look like much when you edit it directly, but when you see it on a running Zope site it's getting wrapped in other templates (usually, in this case, main_template.pt). For example, if you look at index_html.pt directly in a browser, it doesn't look like much of anything. Hell, it's only 26 lines long. But it uses main_template, and then it displays the title of your portal, and the description you gave when you set up the portal, and then inserts news_box. If you can't manage to figure out which files correspond to which parts of the interface, you're f*cked I'm afraid. CMF is big, the ZPT skin is new, and there's not really any map that I know of that explains what it all does. You have to find out by reading the .pt files. So with any luck, you might be able to edit these templates in Dreamweaver and move things around on the page without breaking your portal. Common Folders and Security

I have common set of resources I want individual clients to access but I also want the clients to supply their own secure contexts. However being something of a Zope newbie I'm a little hazy on how I should implement the security in Zope. I have a folder structure as follows: - Common Common resources (dtml method, images etc. etc.) - Clients - AndyInc - acl_user Folder (Users from AndyInc) - BobCorp - acl_user Folder (Users from BobCorp) I can set 'Authorised' security on the AndyInc and BobCorp folders and then do things like: http://zope/Common/AndyInc/CommonResource and Zope will ask Andy to authorise himself before performing publishing CommonResource in the AndyInc context. http://zope/Common/BobCorp/CommonResource has the same effect only now Bob has to authorise himself. QUESTION: But how do I specify security settings (Roles? Proxy Roles??) so that I can stop users from doing things like: http://zope/Common/AndyInc/BobCorp/CommonResource Where because of the naïve security settings I'm using, Zope will ask Andy to authenticate himself and having done so will grant access to CommonResource but in the BobCorp context. Which is NOT what I want. Do I need to create a new Role for each client folder and then grant that Role to the users authorised by the client folder? Is there a better way? Slightly off topic, I do have an interfaces gripe... or question, perhaps... If interfaces are to be used for API documentation, one thing they lack in the scarecrow interfaces implementation is the ability to declare constants in the interface like you would in IDL or Java. DOM node type numbers are a good example of what comes to my mind in this case. Any thoughts on how you would document objects that fulfill this sort of interface with scarecrow interfaces? If you register an API help topic Zope will not only recognize classes but interfaces in the .py file. You don't have to do anything special just use context.registerHelp() in your product's initialization function. A few questions from a newbie

I would just like to say hi all to the zope community. I was previously using Mason (which I still like) and found zope and it looks *GREAT*! I'm quite the newbie though and have a few questions (I have been reading the online books for like a week now and still confused) I did see some previous messages in this group, but the answers didn't help me :( I have zope (2.3.3-1) and a few other modules. I'm using the older version because I'm using debian using apt-get, thats the version that's available. 1) How long would you say it takes to really become proficient with zope? 2) Is it possible to create a variable using DTML and then access it? If so, what would the syntax be? 3) I read about Zope Page Templates (ZPL). Should I just go with that and not bother with DTML? 4) My main question. I have a Z SQL method which takes a parameter. It works using the Test tab. I get it to work thru DTML too. How do I properly pass a parameter to it using Python? I try something like: context['MyZSQLMethod'](MyParam=1) It might be right for all I know, but even if it is I dunno what to do with it. How would I loop thru the data it returns? Use properties of a product?

OK, I have a product, lets say AA. It has a property location. Within this product, I have a ZClass. In the addForm, I'd like to pass a standard value, which is the "location" property of AA, to the user within the form. He can change that value, and that value becomes a property of the ZClass, let's say "actualLocation". I could not find a possibility to access the location prop of AA. <td><input type=text name=actualLocation size=60 value="<dtml-var location>"></td> does not work. Any suggestions? Unstable Zope: Out of Memory problems

Two weeks ago I started to have stability problems with Zope. I'm getting a lot of random "Out of Memory" errors. I'm using Zope in this server for more than an year, I don't know what's happening now. Sure I wouldn't won an oldest running Zope context before, but now it's restarting each 20min! Zope server starts fine with some 14M and crashes when approaches 20M. I'm trying to minimize the amount of memory that Zope uses. I did: 1. put a lower amount of cache in the Control Panel > Database Management > Cache Parameters tab 2. removed full sections of my site, now my Data.fs has just 10M 3. lowered the number of threads, it's running with the default four. Is there anything more I can to run Zope with less memory? I've also tried to debug it, using the debug tab, but everything looks fine. The top object has less than 450 refcounts. Can anyone help me to debug it? Maybe the problem is with my server, I'm with Zope Server behind Apache (with mod_gzip) via mod_proxy in a FreeBSD 4. It's a virtual private server of ViaVerio (know before as IServer). The support said they allocate me just 14M of memory for each process. It worked fine for more than a year. I've found an old zopista that uses the same server and also had out of memory errors: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-cmf/2001-April/006458.html Would my only solution be to change my hosting company? Do other zopistas have any suggestion of hosting plans that give "almost root" power for less than US$100?
