Nope, doesn't work. Here's the problem, restated more clearly. I hope SOMEONE can answer this question... 1. I used zpasswd.py access with SHA encryption to create an emergency user and password. 2. Apparently, I must have mis-written the password in my notes. 3. I tried to write a new password to the emergency user using the zpasswd script. Everything seemed to work, but I still couldn't log on. 4. I wrote a completely new password using cleartext. It worked. 5. I want to GET RID OF the old emergency user and password and REPLACE THEM with new ones using SHA encryption. 6. I am unable to replace the username or password with ANY level of encryption. 7. The web interface doesn't allow me to change the emergency user (as far as I can see). 8. I am using Advanced Production Setup with ZEO http://www.zope.org/Members/dshaw/AdvancedSiteSetup and that appears to have run some sort of interference with zpasswd.py since I completely rebuilt Zope and the problem remains. 9. If I knew where the passwords were stored, could I simply erase the file and start afresh? 10. Any other options? Problems with win32/PythonService.exe

I've historically had a nasty problem with my Zope service restarting when trying to execute a calculation-intensive routing I'd written as a Python extension in C++. I haven't (yet) been able to replicate it when running from a .bat file. Has anyone had experiences with PythonService.exe of this nature? Now, since life seems happy with the *.bat file, should I go ahead and use a service program to run it as a service instead of PythonService.exe? ---------- Keith J. Wish List: Rename and Edit Button

I don't know where to make such a wish list. Maybe some of you who are part of the devel group can pass on this suggestion. You know how there is an "Add and Edit" button when making a new object (such as a DTML Document or DTML Method)? Could one be added to the rename screen and called "Rename and Edit"? In many instances, when you rename an object it is because you have made a copy of another object and want to change something. Having a "Rename and Edit" button (in addition to the "Ok" button in the renaming screen, would save time and several keystrokes. Just a suggestion. Ron

memory leak problems

I have a Python Script that looks like this: <id>latestphotos</id> <params></params> objects = [] for object in context.objectValues(['Folder','Photo']): if object.meta_type == 'Folder': objects = objects + object.latestphotos() else: objects.append(object) return objects This I run from a DTML Method like this: <dtml-in "_.sequence.sort(latestphotos(), (('bobobase_modification_time',),))" reverse size=4 orphan=0> XXX ... XXX </dtml-in> The script crawls through a folder structure which contains Photo's and subfolders. It returns a healthy list of about 400 Photo's (from the Photo product) which are all object referenses. It works like it's supposed to, but the server leaks like hell when I run this. From about 5-10% of the memory to up to 50-70%!! Having accidently triggered this script I have to restart the server. Any ideas anyone why? Other solutions?

Zope Permissions Killing Me

When I try to create a new Foo object (through the site, not the management console), I get the enter id and password dialog. No matter which user I supply, I get "You are not authorized to access FooClass_Properties". I have gone into the FooClass_Properties object and set the permission for Manage properties to View. Manage Properties is the only permission that appears in the Define Permissions tab. Additionally, I have set every other permission in the class to the most liberal possible setting, including enabling every proxy that is available. I am completely stumped. All the doc I find says "allow specified roles to access portal content", and that's usually the end of the discussion. 85% of my dev time with Zope has been spent trying to allow users to access my pages. How to restrict the rendering of public methods?

Is it possible to restrict a method to be rendered only by another method? For example, what if we don't want "standard_html_header" to be rendered by itself? Currently, typing "(path)/standard_html_header", in example, renders the correspondant part of the page, because that method is already supossed to be permitted to view to all users, due the methods who would use it (like index_html) will inherit that permission. But, what if this turns out to be a security issue? Is it possible to turn all methods to be "system-callable-not-rendereable only", unless specified? Thanks in advance, Ausum

Zope on local Win2K machine and IE

Hi! I installed Zope on a local (Win2K) machine that uses a modem dial-up to connect to the internet. Whenever I type in "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" in IE (6) to get to the Zope Server, Windows always prompts me for an internet connection. When I "stay offline", the page does not display. When dialling in, everything works fine. So with IE on Windows 2000, I have to be online to connect to the local (_really_ local, not even LAN) server. I find this stupid and unacceptable. Is there any easy way to get around this problem? Thank you very much in advance for your help, Danny P.S.: Netscape doesn't invoke this prompt, it connects just fine to the local server, straight away.

Hi; How do I delete or change a password once it's been entered into zope via zpasswd.py access? I just tried changing one with SHA encryption and was unable to, so I added a new user with cleartext and it went straight through. Wazzup? And do I *have* to specify a domain when I use SHA? TIA, BenO
