But then it would have -- only for the smaller files -- now that one knows that a PData object is returned from .data, rather than the actual contents of the file. I didn't even think to look at the source. Something should be added to the Zope Book about this (the Appendix on the File object is very scanty). Yikes. All that time... RE: [Zope] relative path to objects in <dtml-var>

My question about this is whether it will break some browsers that are looking for a ".gif" or ".jpg" extension? I'm sure that there must be some meta data in the files themselves declaring that "I'm a jpg", but I have avoided "x_jpg" because of this concern. Does anyone know that this won't pose a problem? Problem working around string.split issue

I have a python script that works just fine in Zope for SMALL input files (between 1-100 cases). However, Zope returns an error when the input file gets large (100+ cases, depending on the situation). In the error message, Zope points to a line where I take the input file and split it to create a list of lines. Note, the same script (with split) works just fine when I run the script in regular python (i.e., outside of Zope). To get around this, I would normally just read the file one line at a time, however, we don't have access to the sys module in Zope. I have loaded the input file into a File Object in Zope, and can access it via... theData = context.myFile.data The problem that I have is that when you do a split on theData, Zope returns the split error (IF myFile is large enough). The question I have is, how can I read small chunks of content from the File Object? This is akin to reading a text file one line at a time. Any hints? Ron

Including Script-Generated String in Method Call

I have been chasing my tail on this one for the better part of two hours now. Time to ask for help. My goal: I want to load a page whose URL looks like "day1.html" where the number in the name of the page changes. I have written a Python script called pagetoget which calculates the day number correctly and assembles the URL as a string, which it returns. This seems to work. In the page where I want to include this page, I essentially had only three lines: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-var pagetoget> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> That produces a page which contains the string of the URL, naturally. Not what I had in mind, but that's clearly what it should do. So the question I spent the better part of the evening on is how I get the string generated by the Python script to be callable from a DTML Document so that the page named by the string value gets displayed. I've tried everything I can think of. I finally decided I had to do a redirect, so I coded this: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect(<dtml-call pagetoload>)"> On this, I get an invalid syntax error. I've tried mucking with the quotation marks (which are annoying as heck, as I'm sure everyone already knows) but nothing I tried worked. I just cannot get that syntax right. I've also tried using dtml-var instead of dtml-call in both places; no joy. Am I on the right track? Is there a better way to do this? This has to be something that hundreds of you experienced Zope dudes have done hundreds of times, but the documentation is either missing or difficult to find with search mechanisms.
