Calling DTML Methods from JavaScript?

I'm sure I'm just overlooking something obvious here, but after spending several hours at this today I'm throwing up my hands. The goal here was (I thought) pretty simple: 1. User fills out a form. 2. If he checks a radio button and then doesn't provide text in a related field, I remind him of his inconsistency, leave him on the HTML form where he was, and select the field that needs completion. Outside Zope, this is a piece-o-cake. Done it hundreds of times. 3. If he behaves as expected, the MySQL database gets updated and the user gets a thank you page. In the JavaScript I use on the client side (I can't see a way to keep the user on the form using dtml), I have a conditional. The if portion pops up a dialog, reminding the user of his or her oversight, then selects the improperly omitted field. The else clause is _supposed_ to call the dtml method that updates the MySQL database and thanks the user for the submission. That's where the problem arises. In the <FORM> tag, I have the DTML method as the action. I also added a call to the JavaScript function using an onSubmit handler. The onSubmit handler gets called, the user gets reminded of the oversight, and the function returns false. This is _supposed_ (ECMA rules) to prevent the form from being submitted so the form action shouldn't take place. That's not what happens. Instead, the user gets reminded of the omission and then the thank you page shows up anyway. The MySQL database gets updated and it shouldn't. I tried in the else clause just having this line: else <dtml-call addAndAcknowledge> But when I do that, it _appears_ that Zope parses the script (which is in an overridden standard_html_header dtml method) because it gives me errors indicating a bad submission to the database on loading the page with the form. I tried enclosing the dtml-call in curly braces (optional JavaScript syntax; I was getting desperate) but that had zero effect. So the question I ended up with (and it may not be the right one; half of success is knowing what questions to ask and I'm not sure I have this one right) is, "How do you call a DTML method from a JavaScript?" I searched all the Tips and How-Tos, and did a search on Zope.org using "JavaScript" and then "DTML and JavaScript" and then "Zope and JavaScript" as terms. No joy but hours of pain (and a few good tidbits picked up in the process, so all was not lost.) Where are the files?

I'm walking through the Zope tutorial and just uploaded an image through Zope. I just searched my computer and did not find that file. It displays on the page, so I know it uploaded... Is it in the Database? Thanks -Allen

ARGH! OpenBSD 1 : Zope 0

Ok, I admit defeat. I can't get this combo to run. I do want it to run, though, because I want to change http://my.gnus.org/ to Zope. Background: OpenBSD Zope package, OpenBSD 3.0, Apache with fastcgi (didn't work with ZServer alone, either). The Problem: CMF won't budge. I'm not submitting this to the CMF list because the problem in question would appear to me (I'm new to Zope after two years again) a Zope problem: While the CFM modules that come with the package just don't work, 1.1beta stops Zope's management interface from starting. Nothing in the logs, though, Zope just silently restarts. I'd like to submit a more meaningful problem report - where do I start debugging? Or is this a case for the CMF list? What other information do you need? Great, great program otherwise.

Ordered Folder not returning contents as ordered

Hello all, Before i start hacking away at Ordered Folder code, can someone please shed light on why, this doesnt work: --snip-- # aq_parent is there for a reason, and it is reading in the # correct place, that has been verified by it's contents for dir in context.aq_parent.objectValues('Ordered Folder'): --snip-- The above works in the sence that it does return back every ordered folder in the context there, but they are not in order. the context of where it is reading the objectValues from is in an OrderedFolder. Ex: context_orderedFolder | --- orderedFolder1 | --- orderedFolder2 | --- orderedFolder3 The order that it returns them in is strange in that i dont see a pattern, at least an obvious one. They are not even returned in the order they were created, and I tested with using just a regular Folder and i get back the same exact results. Seems that OrderedFolder is not behaving as ordered. IMO, it should always return its contents as ordered however i reference it. Anyone have advice on something that i may be missing that is obvious, or routes to take on the "correct" method of correcting this before I plunge into the OrderedFolder code and return with a patch? thanks, Chris Humphries

How to convert the url to parameter

Dear list, Probably it's a dummy question. But I just don't know how-to. Does any one know to convert the url to parameter. For example: http://somehost/parse/db_name/table_name/some_field_name/condition I would like to write a python script or dtml-method named "parse" to grab the record from database. Use the parameter to build a page from "SELECT * from db_name.table_name WHERE field_name='some_field_name' AND condition ='condition' " Thanks in advance. Terry

Authentication depending on client domain ?

Hi, This is perhaps not a strict Zope problem, but I need to have some parts of an extranet wiewable WITHOUT authentication from the LAN but WITH authentication from Internet. Has someone an idea for this ? Thanks in advance --Gilles
