Applying fmt rules to variables

Hi all, I have an old system Im migrating that makes use of images that are kept in numbered directories. The mehtod they were saved before required that the whitespace in the names had a +. In other words, something like <dtml-var name url_quote_plus> BUT, I need to actually save these files, and the above formatting rule only seems to be applyable to output. How can I do something like <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('name', lname fmt=url_quote_plus)"> I know thats obviously NOT how to do it, but Im wondering at this point if it is at all, or do I have to rename all 600 files to not use +? I guess, first would be to do a string search and replace, but Im not sure where to start.... Cheers, Paz

[Tree tag] Influencing the tree using the tree-s or tree-e cookie

Hi, I have searched the lists archive and did not found a solution to my problem. I want to force a tree hierarchy using dtml-tree to expand a specific branch when it is rendered the first time. I use the following Python code borrowed from TreeTag.py (encode_seq() ) to encode the 'id' of the tree item where I want the tree to be opened : from string import join, split, rfind, find, translate from urllib import quote, unquote from zlib import compress, decompress from binascii import b2a_base64, a2b_base64 tbl=join(map(chr, range(256)),'') tplus=tbl[:ord('+')]+'-'+tbl[ord('+')+1:] tminus=tbl[:ord('-')]+'+'+tbl[ord('-')+1:] state=compress(str([id])) l=len(state) if l > 57: states=[] for i in range(0,l,57): states.append(b2a_base64(state[i:i+57])[:-1]) state=join(states,'') else: state=b2a_base64(state)[:-1] l=find(state,'=') if l >= 0: state=state[:l] state=translate(state, tplus) return state *********************************************** The dtml-tree that I want to manipulate is something like : <dtml-let id="''"> <dtml-tree id assume_children=yes id=id branches_expr="an_external_method(PARENT=id, USER=USER)"> <dtml-var title> </dtml-tree> </dtml-let> The problem is that when I display the value returned by this Python code for a given 'id' and compare it to the value of 'tree-e' in the REQUEST, they don't match. Apparently I didn't read the documentation well enough... Calling the method obj.propertyMap() returns a tuple holding a dictionary of three items (id,type,mode). I wasn't correctly iterating over the tuple and retrieving the dictionary items (id,type) I needed... (slapping forehead) Anyway, I've got what I need working... I am chalking this up to RTFM and OE. As far as learning Python in parallel, I think it would be a good idea to learn the basics of python before tackling Zope. At least have a general knowledge of objects. If not, you could easily get into Zope with the bare essentials. Don't be surprised when you find yourself wanting to learn as much as you can about it though. > Should I start with the Zope Book? Should I start > learning python at the same time? If Learning > Python was hard, which book do you recommend? I learned a lot from the Zope Book, especially the Appendix B. I also a learned a lot from "Try it, break it, try something else". If you're gonna pick up a Python book though, I'd get O'Reilly's "Learning Python" (the mouse book). Very easy to understand and a good primer for those new to python (although not a great reference book). Also, don't forget about the Mailing list, and its archives, they're also a valuable tool in learning Zope as well. Good luck, and I hope this helps. - Justin

2.3 Security tab very slow in IE 5 compared to 2.2

Im not sure what changed in the generated HTML in 2.3, but the security tab takes about 4 seconds to appear on my PIII-500 Win2k box when running IE5.5 (haven't tried other browsers yet) However on 2.2 its very fast. Perhaps generated HTML needs to be fixed up a little. Other than background coloring, what's the difference? This involves a small performance penalty, which can be reduced using the patch at http://classic.zope.org:8080/Collector/2002/view (which will also be in version 2.3.1) Im not sure whether thats any use to you....

I was sure it didnt allow hyphens in property names. IMO the *real* answer is to not implement logic in dtml. The problems (and the need for this patch) go away.
