Zope out of control

Today, I saw a Zope out of control (for the first time): It started with the report of a colleague that he can not upload an object. I checked the log file and indeed, Zope reported: cannot load object <objectid>: string length does not match ... Additionally, Zope (2.1.6) died continuously, after about every minute. The computer was quite slow. Thus, I check with "top": load between 130 and 250, changing rapidly, more precisely: oszillating between these two values. I informed our system administrator. He recognized that the zdemon process had 999 threads. After this process was killed, everything returned to a normal state. I do not yet know what went on this afternoon. Just want to let you know about our experience. Dieter

Read on if interested. (Or skip to the next section, I had another question.) My problem was this: I have a .news folder. I selectively grant manager access to that folder for some users. When such a user browses the site, any part of the site, he should see an "Add a news item" button appear. Hello, I am doing something wrong with a dtml-if, i have been looking for a few hours and i don't understand what is happening. What the following code should do is test wheter an image exists and if it exists render it in the browser. If it doesn't exist it should show an empty default image. I found two ways to do it and both do it wrong in different ways <dtml-let foto="'/Cis/fotos/afoto.jpg'"> <dtml-if expr="_.getitem('foto')"> <img src="&dtml-foto;"> <dtml-else> <img src="/Cis/fotos/Noface.jpg"> </dtml-if> <dtml-if &dtml-foto;> <img src="&dtml-foto;"> <dtml-else> <img src="/Cis/fotos/Noface.jpg"> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> The first one allways finds the true in the <dtml-if> and the second one allways the false. My Linux box at home died from hardware failure, so I was stuck using Win2k for a few weeks, and only getting a chance to use Zope on UNIX on my Solaris box at work; I'm setting back up my home Linux box now just so I can play with ParsedXML at home. I (naively) tried at some point a few weeks ago to compile a CVS build of it using cygwin, which doesn't work, because the python used by Zope was not built that way. I don't have access VC++, and I haven't tried Borland C++ 5.0 yet. I am going to assume (for my own sake, anyway) that it is best to stick to UNIX on ParsedXML until a non-beta release - that's what I am doing. Weird batching behaviour in Linux 2.3.0

Hi All, First a big thanks to Troy for helping me get this far. Now...I've got some weird behaviour with the batching, it displays my first object the way I want, but then it groups the remaining 4, instead of displaying the next three and the last 1, they way I would expect (and desire). This _seems_ like buggy behaviour to me. Passing paramaters ...

Hi, I'm not sure if you are the right person to ask, but how on earth does one go about passing form data outside one page and into another (via javascript, if necessary)? I had acquired this bit of code that is supposed to accomplish this, but (as usual) it didn't work: <form name=form1 action="" method=GET> <input type=hidden name=pic value="http://www.anywhere.com/js/pic1.gif"> <input type=submit> </form> *** And the below code would be on the second page that is the action of the above form: <script> _src = unescape(document.location.toString().split("?")[1].split("=")[1]); document.write("Image = "+_src+"<BR>"); document.write("<img src='"+_src+"' border=1>"); </script> All I'm trying to do is have all thumbnailed images link to a single html page that displays the related larger image (so I don't have to have a mini page for every singe image file). Problem with JavaScript

Hi! I'm with a strange problem. I have some client-side JavaScripts that are included when the page is renderized, as in http://www.zope.org/Members/Caseman/client_script_howto, but sometimes the page is renderized with the Javascript code in it, messing all things. When this happens, I need to use the reload function of the browser several times, until the page is correctly renderized (sometimes after the first one, sometimes, after a lot of reloads). It is a problem with my browser or something with Zope?
