Hi, I am developing a Zope product with several classes and subclasses there in. Everything works fine so far, but the next step is to add user logins and permissions to the whole structure. While I see how this is done on instances of objects, I didn't find any way to put role based permissions and role definitions into the classes defined in the product. I found a howto talking about this, but ony in respect of 'hand coded' products. So far I could do everything in dtml and would love to keep it this way. Am I lost or is there a way to do this? An example of what I like to do is to define a role 'registered_user' and restrict access to certain methods to this role. I will nedd 2 or three different roles to implement different levels of access. Thanks. Could you please help me understand the syntax of the statement you suggested? Specifically, this portion ZSQLMethod()[:3] Additionally, with this method, is there a way to process all records starting with a certain number until eof()? Thanks again for your help. zope.org and zeo version

hi out of curiosity (which will surely kill the cat ;)) which version of zeo is zope.org running? 0.4.1 or the cvs? i checked out zeo out of cvs, and installed on dev machine, and all looks ok. if zope.org uses the pre 1.0 beta, i'll likely follow :) thanks -- http://www.kedai.com.my/kk http://www.kedai.com.my/eZine use Zope? then you got HOPE!

zope book - tree error

Hi all, first I'd like to say thanks to all those who have been very helpful and answered my previous couple of questions. This is a weird one - I am trying to use the tree tag by adapting the code in the Zope book chapter 7 example. I want to display only folders containing documents in a tree on a sidebar on the site home page. my folder structure in Zope goes: Root - MyFolder - documentsFolder - docFolder1 - docFolder2 - docFolder3 - docFolder3A - docFolder3B and so on.. I have given all the 'docFolder' folder objects a boolean property 'doc_folder' that is set to true. As suggested in the book I have created a python script with the id of 'docFolders' with the following code: results=[] for object in context.objectValues(['Folder']): if object.hasProperty('doc_folder') and object.doc_folder: results.append(object) return results I then created a dtml method to display the tree called 'libraryMap'. code as follows: &nbsp<a href="&dtml-URL0;?expand_all=1">Expand All</a> &nbsp<a href="&dtml-URL0;?collapse_all=1">Collapse All</a> <dtml-tree branches="docFolders" skip_unauthorized="1"> <a href="&dtml-absolute_url;" TARGET="text"><dtml-var title_or_id></a> </dtml-tree> Both of these methods are located in the 'documentsFolder' (see Folder structure above). When I test libraryMap using the view tab in Zope it works fine (yippee!), but when I add a dtml method in MyFolder to call the method 'libraryMap' with the following code: <dtml-with documentsFolder> <dtml-var libraryMap> </dtml-with> All that gets displayed are the two hyperlinks for 'Expand All' and 'Collapse All'. So the tree doesn't seem to be working even though the method returns with no errors. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! :-) Sandy. **NB: Interestingly, if I add a test method to the documentsFolder to call libraryMap simply with <dtml-var libraryMap> it will work if the test method is a dtml-method, but not if it is a dtml-document when the same behaviour as described above results!?

Error Type: TypeError Error Value: not enough arguments; expected 3, got 0 </code> Get the problem? I want to be able to call a Python Method object using keyword arguments or whatever it's called when you include the name of the parameters as you call the object. How do I do this?? Does this apply to Python Scripts and External Methods?

Apache+SSL+ZServer+LoginManager = S L O W ?

After some weeks of exhausting development, I finally have a setup running with Zope that allows me to change Unix passwords with what I hope is some semblance of security. However, it's nightmarishly slow. Specs: Apache 1.3.14 w/mod_ssl (ssl 0.9.5a) Zope 2.3.0 Python 1.5.2 LoginManager 0.8.8b1 ZPatterns 0.4.3b2 Following the ZServer+Apache+SSL tutorial closely, I do eventually get a login page from LoginManager; the pictures seem to be part of what is slow. I get this tantalizing clue from my apache logfiles: "GET //p_/ZopeButton HTTP/1.0" All pages load up with nearly unbelievable slowness, often exhibiting speeds that creep down & down, though they do eventually load. Loading directly from the zope server is as quick as ever. If anyone has any clues, please let me know, I'm all ears. --JB (TQuid on #zope)

thanks, john. this looks like the best option. uploading the files to my zope server is not really an option. i've set up database simply recording, which files are held on the external server to help (as a short-term solution) but this would prove just as tedious in the long run and there's no way i'd include this is my final build. so... i checked out httplib module (HTTP protocol client) ref: http://www.gmu.edu/mlnavbar/webdev/doc-python/lib/module-httplib.html but it doesn't seem to be supported by python methods. i've managed to create a total system so far without using any external python methods (the ones stored in an extension but this seems like the only option now. can anyone tell me if there are any alternatives? thanks if you can help, lee John wrote: > - Write an external method that goes out and checks whether the image in > question actually exists on the server. First off, I'm sorry if questions about ZmxODBC have gone to the list and I havn't answered them. I don't read Zope(a)zope.org anymore. As for your problem, I'm afraid I really don't know. The problem with ZmsODBC is that there are 4 parts involved in any query. The DB server, the ODBC driver, the mxODBC connector and then finally ZmxODBC. This error seems to be coming from ZmxODBC but I have no idea why. The line referenced seems to be a comment line when I look at the code. If you look at lib\python\Products\ZmxODBCDA\db.py, line 233, what do you see? What database are you trying to use? I only want to operate on the first 3 records returned in the ZSQL_select_images. I thought that a dtml-if test would do it based on the dtml-var sequence-index but I'm not having any luck. Any suggestions on either my logic or the implementation of it? Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
