Hello Zopistas, I am excited to announce a Zope Directions Roadmap. http://dev.zope.org/Resources/ZopeDirections.html This document summarizes current thinking at Digital Creations about where the Zope platform is going from an architectural point of view. It summarizes informal conversations that we've been having internally for the past couple months. This paper talks about how we'd like to improve Zope to make it easier for Python developers. It puts some existing initiatives (e.g. Presentation Templates, and the Content Management Framework) in context, and discusses potential future projects like moving to a component architecture. I should point out that this document is not a concrete plan so much as a statement of what's on our minds. Zope development will continue to operate openly in the fishbowl (http://dev.zope.org/) We'd love to hear what you have to say. Are we heading in the right direction? Is there something else that we should be doing instead to help developers? Let us know. (Follow up should be on the zope-dev mailing list.) document_src returning evaluated dtml

I have asked this question before, but I am still no nearer finding a solution. I am running Zope 2.3.0 on a solaris box (although experience the same thing under 2.2.2 on RH Linux 6.2). I created a zclass which has base classes of 'ZObject, CatalogAwareBase, ZDTMLDocument'. In order to automatically reindex an instance when it is edited, I created my own 'my_editForm' method within the zclass and assigned it to the edit view. This form was made by taking the html source of the standard edit form page, and changing the static parts of the page (that refer to modification time, size, textarea, id, title etc) for various dtml-var inserts. I'm pretty sure that the correct 'size' and modification time gets inserted, and the 'id' and 'title' are definitely correct. And, for the most part, the <dtml-var document_src> works as expected as well. However, if there is a <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('http://www.mysite.com')"> in the source of the zclass instance, the redirect gets executed every time I try to simply edit the instance! Even more strangely, if the redirect call is within other bits of dtml logic that evaluate to false (and thus result in the redirect not being called when the instance is viewed), the redirect does not occur when attempting to edit either. In an effort to find a way around this, I have tried several things including; - using <dtml-var "document_src()"> - using <dtml-var "document_src()" html_quote> - using <dtml-var "document_src(REQUEST,RESPONSE)"> - using <dtml-var "document_src(REQUEST,RESPONSE)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('Content-Type', 'text/html')"> - using <dtml-var "PrincipiaSearchSource()"> - using <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('thesource', _['document_src'])"><dtml-var thesource> in each case, the same thing happens [N.B. I'm not totally sure I've got the syntax exactly correct for the last one]. So, I guess my question is, why is the document_src getting evaluated instead of just sent the page as normal text? This works properly when I try to do it with a normal DTML Document; why does my zclass behave differently? Cheers for any help Tim

Product release: ExtFile/ExtImage 1.1.0.beta1

ExtFile/ExtImage Product 1.1.0.beta1 has just been released. Get it at http://www.zope.org/Members/MacGregor/ExtFile The new Version comes with many, many internal changes and some new features which will (hopefully) make ExtFile/ExtImage even more reliable: - You can set a 'level of undo' which determines in wich cases the external file is overwritten/deleted or renamed to '.undo'. - 'id collision bug' fixed, which caused unreferenced files in the repository, when an id of a new object already existed (thanks to Fred Yanowski). Instead of in the __init__ method, the file data is now passed to the object after it has been successfully added, via manage_file_upload. - 'wrong file size bug' fixed, which caused a wrong file size and resolution of the image and preview, after a new file was uploaded followed by an undo of this transaction. The filesize and resolution attributes have been replaced by corresponding methods which determine the respective value directtly from the file(e.g. width(), height(), prev_size(), ...) - Objects can be assigned an alternative id (instead of the filename) by the optional 'id' field in the manage_add method of ExtFile and ExtImage. - Uploaded preview images can be resized during upload (like the generated previews). - Images can be dynamically resized (thanks to Arno Gross): the index_html method now has two additional parameters ('width' and 'height') which cause the image to be resized on the fly. - Documentation updated. Because the product was rewritten in big parts this release is a beta version which might still have some bugs. I haven't had too much time for testing, so please report me any bug you find. I hope I will be ableto publish the next stable release within the next two or three weeks.

Help with multiple SQL statements in Interbase?

I have an Interbase 6.0 database on Win32 and I'm using the 0.9.2 version of the gvidb, but I'm running into problems with Z SQL queries like the following: insert into users (username,pword,email,lastname,firstname,chrome) values(<dtml-sqlvar username type="string">, <dtml-sqlvar expr="mkpword(password)" type="string">, <dtml-sqlvar email type="string">,<dtml-sqlvar lastname type="string">, <dtml-sqlvar firstname type="string">, <dtml-sqlvar chrome type="string">) <dtml-var sql_delimiter> insert into users_roles (UID, ROLEID) values(gen_id(UID_GEN,0), <dtml-sqlvar user_role type="string">) The SQL looks right and the first part of the query (before the delimiter) is executed and committed. The second part (which adds a user's role) never gets submitted. Is there a problem with sending multiple SQL statements to interbase in the same method? If so, is there a workaround, these need to go in the same transaction to insure that gen_id gives me the correct value. Thanks, Jason Jones jason.jones(a)awl.com

Hi Jake, Thanks for your reply regarding the setting up hosting facilities. I don't think the overhead of running multiple zopes will be a problem (until I approach > 10 clients). Is this as simple as setting up multple instance homes and having them all point at the one version of zope, or do I need one install of zope for each instance home too? I guess the other thing I need to think about is how a request is directed to each instance of zope. I know I can get an instance to listen to just one ip address, so if each domain had it's own ip address, that would be fine. However, if multiple sites share the same ip address, how would I send the request to the correct instance? (using zserver) I hope these questions make sense. Tim Haines.

Documentation Questions

I have a couple of questions about the best place to get information on objects, methods and properties. Specifically, I am trying to figure out what kind of methods and properties record objects have. I have tried looking through the source code, the mailing list and zope.org, but unfortunately I can't seem to find any info. Can anyone help "steer" me in the right direction?
