Roadmap/LoginManager?

It's great to have the Roadmap. Where are things going with LoginManager? The PTK/CMF uses it, right? If this is such a core product, does it make sense to change the core security model? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm a Zope newbie, looking at it more as a general development app server (as opposed to content management tool). FSSession and calling DTML Methods in various ways

I've got a DTML method that looks like this: Id: checksession <code> <dtml-if "FSSession.has_key('session')"> <dtml-return "1"> <dtml-else> <dtml-return "0"> </dtml-if> </code> Then a DTML Document: Id: index_html <code> <dtml-call FSSession> <dtml-if checksession> COOL! <dtml-else> Not so cool buddy </dtml-if> </code> This now works fine and the DTML Method (checksession) has FSSession in it's stacks thanks to index_html calling it as you should do. The problem is when I call checksession like a python expression. This fails: Id: index_html <code> <dtml-call FSSession> <dtml-if "checksession()"> COOL! <dtml-else> Not so cool buddy </dtml-if> </code> It in the latter case fails to find the FSSession object. In the above example, it looks easy to fix, but in reality it's a bit more complicated. What's the difference between <dtml-call someDTMLMethod_dtml> and <dtml-call "someDTMLMethod_dtml()"> ??

It might make the security implementation more difficult however. I am currently not sure, how proxy roles and owner roles play together. Installation fails on NT (zope 2.3.0)

I downloaded Zope-2.3.0-win32-x86.exe from zope.org and have some problems installing it. The installer works fine for the first 97% and then freezes while installing some __init__.py. In the taskmanager there is a process "python.exe" that I am unable to kill. CPU is idle. I have WinNT 4.0 SP6 with IE 5.5 (and mozilla, by the way). Anybody have a hint? VirtualHostMonster and URLs from ZCatalog

I'm using VirtualHostMonster to map URLs like »http://www.strathspey.org/foo« to »http://www.our-isp.org:8080/strathspey/foo«. This works fine. Now I have started using a ZCatalog to index the DTML documents on my server, and I've added a »What's new« type of overview as per the »Ranges« section of the »Advanced ZCatalog Searching« how-to, by passing a suitable expression to the catalog object. However, the URLs in my result list (obtained via »catalog.getpath(data_record_id_)«) are all of the form »http://www.strathspey.org/strathspey/foo« (with an extra »strathspey« in the middle). What am I doing wrong? My Apache configuration contains the canonical rewriting rules ProxyPass / http://www.our-isp.org:8080/VirtualHostBase/ http/www.strathspey.org:80/strathspey/VirtualHostRoot/ ProxyPassReverse / http://www.our-isp.org:8080/VirtualHostBase/ http/www.strathspey.org:80/strathspey/VirtualHostRoot/ ProxyPass /misc_ http://www.our-isp.org:8080/misc_ ProxyPass /p_ http://www.our-isp.org:8080/p_ (linebreaks for convenience) and these work fine otherwise. The VHM resides in the root folder of my Zope 2.3.0 instance at www.our-isp.org:8080. Exceptions and Python Scripts

Hi, I'd like to do a try...except in a Python Script. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I'm allowed to import the exceptions module: Error Type: ImportError Error Value: import of "Exceptions" is unauthorized Is that intended? Where should I get hold of exception classes to use in Python Scripts? To make matters worse, a lot of Zope's internals still throw string based errors, so a very general except clause is the only way to catch them. Unfortunately, the only way to analyise those exceptions is to use sys.exec_info(), but using that in a python script always throws up an authenticatino box. Any ideas how to solve these problems? cheers, Chris

Upgrade woes and product import problems

I'm trying to upgrade to 2.3.0b1 from 2.2.5b1... I installed the new version (according to the ZopeInstall HowTo, just to be safe), which started fine. I then shutdown Zope (2.3.0b1), moved the default var/Data.fs* files to a backup directory, then copied my old Data.fs* files over. When I tried to re-start 2.3.0b1, nothing happened. No debug message either. So I put the default Data.fs* files back in and restarted successfully. Fine, I thought, the database files aren't all that necessary. All the work I'd done on the previous version had been exported to a .zexp product export file, which were all subclassed from your run-of-the-mill ZClasses (image, file, folder, object manager, ZCatalog aware) and used DTML for all methods. No PythonMethods, no FSSessions, etc. So I put the .zexp file into the "import" folder and tried to import the product from within Zope. Hi everyone, I was a Java addict until I discovered Python and Zope. I am just getting into Zope, trying to put together a contact manager app as an exercise. I have a few questions: a) The contact manager will hold information for contacts(people) within organizations(companies); organizations will be categorized by predefined industries, etc. I am not sure how to model this; I am still a bit confused about how to approach a problem in Zope; it's so different... My first idea was this: - Create an 'Organization' ZClass, in which there is a 'Contact' ZClass - Create an 'Industry' ZClass Then: - Create an 'Organizations' folder (contains Organization instances) - Create an 'Industry' folder (contains Industry instances) Now, my question is this: how do I relate an organization instance to an industry instance? How do I materialize that possibility through the UI - I mean, how do I show the different industries in a listbox in the Organization's create/update screens? I am still quite confused about how objects in given folders have access to objects in other folders. Could someone help me on this - an example may be? b) Objects, references and ZODB Suppose I successfuly assign an industry object to an organization object, how is that persisted in ZODB? I mean, does the organization object only keep a persistent reference to the industry object, or does it copy the industry object entirely? What is the proper way to handle such cases in Zope? c) "mutable sub-objects should be treated immutably" - from a ZODB point of view. I am not sure I completely understand this (I understand mutable and immutable allright, but I do not see what makes a mutable object being treated immutably, and how/why it affects ZODB). I don't see any potential security violations (zope's paranoid sometimes) so it should be possible. This seems to be a difficult task in zope because, like Joh said, very simple processes have to be externalized (e.g. external methods) Well, once I start using external processes my code get's fragmented and scattered over scripts in various external folders. My vision, and that's why I'm using zope and not php, is to keep my code in one place (the zope object database file data.fs) and object oriented (it's a bummer to always change code in various places).
