Is there someway you could roll this into the help system so there is way to get to it from the management screen. Perhaps every object can have two kinds of help when you push the help button. One is the automatically generated help which you have done and then whatever additional help is provided by the product. I have yet to try this product but it is a brillent idea. Like building a autogenerated ZQR into the product itself. Should I switch to Python 1.5.2?

I've been using Python 2.0 with Zope 2.3.0. It generally works well, but lately I've run into problems using string.split() and now I notice that httplib encounters a similar ("loop over non-sequence") problem. I'm thinking of chucking it and going back to Python 1.5.2, but I found that it does not compile out of the box under SPARC Solaris 2.8. # ./python /usr/local/lib/python1.5/compileall.py 'import site' failed; use -v for traceback Traceback (innermost last): File "/usr/local/lib/python1.5/compileall.py", line 128, in ? sys.exit(not main()) File "/usr/local/lib/python1.5/compileall.py", line 121, in main success = compile_path() File "/usr/local/lib/python1.5/compileall.py", line 85, in compile_path if (not dir or dir == os.curdir) and skip_curdir: AttributeError: curdir (It doesn't know about os.curdir or os.getcwd().) So...before I try beating 1.5.2 into submission under Solaris, I want to know if there's an update of Zope in the near future that fixes the Python 2.0 compatibilities. Thank you. --kyler

[Ann] DocFinder 0.1: ask Zope about its documentation

Recently, I have written several times: Look at the Zope source for documentation. Zope has quite good source documentation. However, as the Zope source is huge, this advice is not so easy to follow. Therefore, I made "DocFinder". This small product allows you to ask any object in your Zope system about its documentation: methods, roles, arguments, documentation strings. As even simple Zope objects expose hundreds of methods, I made the display a two level interactively explorable tree structure. The first level shows you the classes, the object is build from. Expanding a class will show you the class's attributes. I think, this product can help you in various ways: as a Zope programmer: * learn about the available methods and their arguments * learn about Zope's architecture and building blocks * check for security holes as a Zope maintainer * help you to bring interfaces and implementation in line * help you to straighten out some quirks in Zope's implementation * help you to improve Zope documentation * help you to detect potential security risks due to unprotected attributes More information and download at URL:http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/DocFinder.html

curve ball with <form>

I've got a small form imbedded within a much larger DTML Method. While coding along I stuck it in there. Test views of the page work great. As soon as I created the DTML Method that the FORM will POST to, I get this error (now this is only on viewing the Calling Page): Error Type: TypeError Error Value: argument 1: expected read-only character buffer, ImplicitAcquirerWrapper found My form is this: <form action="del_item" method="POST"> Input reason for deletion:<input type="text" name="reason:text" size="40"> <input name="delbutton" type="submit" value="Delete Item"> </form> When the method 'del_item' doesn't exist, the page displays correctly. As soon as I create the method 'del_item', I can't view this page anymore without the above error. Am I barking up the wrong tree? What would zope care if 'del_item' existed or not, it apparently doesn't care when it is yet to exist, but when I create it, the calling page isn't viewable, and I've not even pressed the 'submit' button. Which version of Zope are you using? I tested my examples in Zope 2.3.0. This is the first version that uses the mx.DateTime module, which is more accurate than the original DateTime module from the Python 1.5.2 dist. Zoo guestbook example.

Hello all, I'm working the Zoo guestbook example: http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/SimpleExamples.html and have created all the documents which seem to work fine. The Python method addEntry that drives the actual update of the database I created by doing an add python script then putting the code in just like the example as follows: """ Create a guest book entry. """ # create a unique document id id='entry_%d' % len(context.objectIds()) # create the document context.manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addDTMLDocument(id, title="", file=comments) # add a guest_name string property doc=getattr(context, id) doc.manage_addProperty('guest_name', guest_name, 'string') Syntactically it looks good to Zope, but it has a problem with the 'context' variable and doesn't seem to know what it is. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? -- IV
