Zope Bean is a simplified plug & play product for Zope. Zope Bean encapsulates a set of properties and methods. Zope Bean has one creation screen, one configuration screen and one information screen. Zope Bean is not Zope Component. Zope Component is experimental new feature in Zope. I have not seen it implemented yet. However, from the paper: "Components need not be persistent, nor provide a management interface." Zope Beans are persistent and they provide a management interface. Zope Bean is not exactly Zope Product. Zope Products are hard to create and hard to maintain. If you're Python/Zope pro who is used to write complex Zope Products, the chances are that you may have no need in Zope Beans - you're already a magician. However, Zope Beans enforce loose coupling design (something to think about). The biggest difference between Zope Bean and Zope Product is that Zope Bean is extremely easy to create and to maintain even you have no experience with Zope Products at all. If you know a bit of Python - you can write and use Zope Beans. Next version of Zope Beans may provide more functionality (like complex types of properties, one-bean-cooperating-with-other-bean, Global Bean Distribution Network, e t.c.) The purpose of this version is to show that writing plug & play Zope Products could be significantly easier than it is now. Comments welcome. Rgds.Paul.

All, Zope 2.3.0 (binary release, python 1.5.2, solaris-2.6-sparc) Python Version 1.5.2 (#8, Nov 16 1999, 10:05:41) [GCC 2.8.1] System Platform sunos5 We have a page that allows users to change their password it executes the following: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('name', login_name)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('password', password)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('confirm', confirm)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('roles', acl_users.getUser(login_name).getRoles())"> <dtml-call "acl_users.manage_users(submit='Change', REQUEST=REQUEST)"> The password is changed and the user is taken to a page that notifies them that their password was changed, but when the user tries to navigate to any page instead of getting an Authentication dialog, they get a NameError for a variable that is (or should be) there. Hello all, I wonder what should I do if I want to display the menu with the defaut is deusch and when the user clicks 'english' the menu_left and menu_header swich to english. I have tried with this but it did not work : ~( The code is below. my standard_html_header : <html> <dtml-if expr="lang=='en'"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('LANG', 'en')"> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('LANG', 'de')"> </dtml-if> <head> .... </head> <body> <dtml-if expr="lang=='en'"> menu is english. <dtml-else> menu is deutsch </dtml-if> #call menu_left <dtml-var menu_left> Inside menu_left, i wrote : <dtml-if expr="lang=='en'"> <a href="<dtml-var homeUrl>index_html?lang=de">Deutsch</a> English English English... <dtml-else> <a href="<dtml-var homeUrl>index_e_html?lang=en">English</a> Deutsch deutsch... </dtml-if> my problem was i cannot switch to english ...but if i used en/de as boolean flag, it was fine. (But i guessed that did not make sense...?) I don't understand when I should put '-'(single quote) or ignore it. I saw from some examples that they used '-' to string within 'expr='. And i wonder if I should put <dtml-call REQUEST.set ('LANG', 'en') or <dtml-call RESPONSE.setCookie(LANG, en) > to keep tracking language. Some of us suggest using session but mm..it seems too difficult for a beginner, I think.? Thank you in advance for any suggestion. Pattreeya.

MySQLdb moves to SourceForge

I've put MySQLdb over at SourceForge, so now you can play with CVS versions. Hi, Dunno if anyone else has had this problem, but the ZWikiWebs product that comes bundled with ZWiki needs to have a proxy role of Manager added to the ZWikiWebAddForm, ZWikiWebAdd DTML methods if anyone otehr than managers will be given the permission to add ZWiki Webs. cheers, Chris

A tip for those of you getting 500 Proxy Errors when serving Zope through Apache using ProxyPass... >From the How-To (http://www.zope.org/Members/anser/apache_zserver/) ProxyPass /Zope/ http://fightclub.org:8080/ ProxyPassReverse /Zope/ http://fightclub.org:8080/ This will not work on some server configurations (ie Debian).
