Hi Andy, The ASP session object is quick and easy but it doesnt scale well at all due to it being a memory hog and it isnt an enterprise-wide solution for security reasons. But, definately need some "canned" ZOPE solutions to describe how to a) handle session via something like a session object and b) show the bonus of decreased memory usage and increased security with a ZOPE session "object"... Much of Zope is written in C, thus compiled. There should be a deb for 2.3.0-4 at the very least for ppc under Deiban unstable (I installed this on my Mac/Linux laptop a few weeks ago). I know that the deb for i386 is now updated to 2.3.1-1, but I'm not sure how package maintainers ensure builds on all platforms on Debian (personally, I'd like to know, becuase I am planning on running Zope on Debian systems on both the intel and sparc platforms). Bottom line, you do need a platform specific deb, or get the source install and build it yourself. ZODBC hangs up Zope

I am using the ZODBC product in Zope 2.2.4 to connect to an Oracle data warehouse and it seems that all of Zope hangs up when there are tables being locked during updates and a sql query is done using ZODBC. I am using the ZDGchart product to summarize some data in the warehouse. It looks like the ORA-04020 error (Deadlock detected) is not being trapped and then ZODBC hangs up the rest of Zope. Zclass+Zcatalog

I have problems with my Zcatalog PDFcatalog with 'tp1' 'tp2' 'tp3' 'tp4' what are PDFdoc (myZclass) with juste as property 'title' and 'author' : I don't understand the behaviour of zope : <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-in PDFcatalog size=50 start=query_start> <dtml-with id> <dtml-var id>, <dtml-var titre><br> <dtml-var auteur> </dtml-with> <dtml-with tp4> <dtml-var id>, <dtml-var titre><br> <dtml-var auteur> </dtml-with> <dtml-else> There was no data matching this query. </dtml-in> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> and I get: tp1, | | tp2, | ¦==== why is there no 'titre' no 'auteur'? tp3, | | tp4, | tp4,titre4 auteur4 The two <dtml-with> block seems to be equal ... I wonder ??????? I think there a link error between Zclass/Zcatalog =>I added CatalogAware, and try every how-to, but I can't index automatically my catalog .... need some help .... That is a good solution with the hidden frame - again, I think the Zope management tool is useful and it works and I know alot of the same functionality could be duplicated in a different (or similar to the edit tool you provide your users) gui implementation - what would be great is integration within HTML/XML editors. Arent there movements going on here with GoLive and Dreamweaver? On the other ASP note - what ASP concepts do you think would be the top 5 that would need to be depicted under the Zope Way? I think: 1. Form submission and Form Response via ASP 2. Dynamic content (like time and date - something simple) placed in a page 3. SQL connection object and subsequent SQL call 4. Page Redirection and passing of form field or hidden data (state) 5. Reading in attributes from an offline configuration page (asp page) to set the values of an online page - like bgcolor,etc. Probably many of these are done a different way altogether and some of which arent the preferred way to do things with ZOPE (like even using a SQL db). But, idea is to look at ASP concepts - describe em in Zope terms. and show how they can be accomplished more effectively and efficiently with ZOPE. LOL: ) I downloaded http://mwr.ddts.net/a/mwr/zope_2.3.1-1_i386.deb then tried to install it. ~# dpkg -i /home/someuser/zope_2.3.1-1_i386.deb dpkg : error package architecture (i386) does not match system (powerpc) So python byte-code is NOT cross architecture? Mike, would you be willing to post your source?

more dtml-in and content negotiation

Its me again, asking stupid questions I havent found answers within the docs :( Is it possible to extend the <dtml-in "sub.objectValues()"> <h2><dtml-var title></h2> <dtml-var sequence-item> </dtml-in> code a little, so that will only display objects ending in "_de" or "_en" ? Is there a kind of "content-negotiation" like I use it with Apache and plain html files: index.html.de index.html.en and apache picks out the correct one depending on the users browser prefs - is that possible with zope too?
