Zope and Python Developer needed in South-Africa

Hi all I don't know if this is the correct newsgroup, but it's the only Zope newsgroup we know of. Feel free to point me to a more appropriate forum if I am in error! We have a position open for a developer who knows Zope fairly well and that (obviously) know Python and object oriented methodology quite well (If the person knows Python quite well but not Zope - he is at least teachable!). If the person's got some experience with JavaScript and web design - even better! We run a pure Python and Zope environment with JavaScript limited to functionality that we cannot reproduce with HTML and Zope (eg. zoom boxes). There is no need to mention if you have Visual Basic, VBScript or ASP knowledge - we don't care ;) (although it will not be held against you) Regards Etienne

insane Central Daylight Time, Zope 2.2.2

Most of the central US just went to daylight savings time last night and my Zope 2.2.2 installation seems to have decided to use UTC+2 instead of CDT (which is UTC-5). If I telnet into the server and check for the time, Linux gives me the correct date and time. I'll go looking for the problem now, but thought some of you may want to check if you have a similar wrinkle in time. The server is physically in the Eastern US time zone, we run it on Central Time, and I'm currently on Bangkok time (UTC+9). Weird PDB behavioramounts to canonic filename problem

Does anyone have a clever way to fix this problem? Many of my breakpoints were not being hit. Turns out the reason is that there is a hodge-podge of different forms for the filenames reported in stack frames. I've seen D:/LongNameThing\file.py d:\LONGNA~1\file.py d:/LongNameThing\file.py D:\LONGNA~1\file.py This causes bdb.py's break_here function not to hit lots of good stuff, since emacs's gud's C-x b always uses the right form. By the way, put this in your .emacs ;-) There is a hook in bdb for a function called canonic() which is used to canonicalize all filenames. I can write it, but if someone has it already that'd be great. My debugging would run faster if there were some way to make sure that all .pyc's and/or .py's got the same filename format when executing. I don't have time to look into this. Is there any magic someone can incant for me? (add-hook 'pdb-mode-hook (function (lambda () (gud-def gud-break "break %d%f:%l" "\C-b" "Set breakpoint at current line."))))

Use of webdav client.py

I intend to synchronize two Zope servers (where files may change on either side between syncs) and thought I would try to use WebDav instead of FTP, since this will hopefully (!) help manage locks during the process. I have tried the client.py in the webdav folder (included in the zope 2.3.0 beta I use), but there are really very few clues as how to use it. I manage to create a Resource that represents an object on the server, and to do some simple operation, like myResource.get(). But how do I list a folder contents? (Zope sends back the index_html when I do get() on a folder). And what are the keyword parameters of the different functions ? And is there any documentation of what exactly the functions do? Also, will a WebDav lock prevent updates via Zope management screens? (I could of course try this, but if anybody knows already...). Any hints welcome. christer

ZClass subclassed from Python Script?

Why can't I create a ZClass that is a subclass of Python Script. Actually, I sort of know why. So i tried to hack the __init__.py in Products/PythonScripts to call createZClassForBase but I couldn't come up with an import that would make this function available. Any way to make this work? Any reason I shouldn't? arrg. -- cary

Looks to me like the Zope security machinery is refusing to publish the attirbute "data" because the container, an element instance, isn't telling Zope that this is allowable. Chris suggested a solution which involves using the Zope security helper functions to turn this container into something that works with Zope security, and if you're storing or keeping this container after passthis returns it, or you want to do any access control with it, I'd agree with him. Looking at ZopeSecurityPolicy.py where your exception was thrown, however, it seems that the reason that this exception would have been avoided if you make a simple change to the container. Either give it an __allow_access_to_unprotected_subobjects__ attribute with a value of 1, or use a dict instead of a class instance. Why? The throw occurs on line 168 because p isn't true. p will be an int if its container (the element instance in your code) is a list, dict, or tuple (line 153). Otherwise, p will be true if the container has an int __allow_access... attribute which is true (or if that attribute is another type, but I'd suggest real permissions first). Obscure, but there it is. I learned about this when trying to figure out a different obscure access situation :( What I don't understand is that these checks seem to occur even if the container supplies or acquires a __roles__ attribute. Probably useful to mention what software you are using. Generally: specify the port as :8021 after the host name or enter it on the port selection field before connecting. You may also be getting nailed by a firewall (if relevant). Does a PC work? Try using passive transfers (PASV). Try using telnet on port 8021 and see if you get a response from the server when you connect. Some FTP clients just don't allow port changes. As far as the digests go, I agree.
