I would just use ProxyPass and set the SiteRoot in Zope for that folder if that part is needed. Works for us to target folders in Zope from Virtual hosts. But when you hit that folder in manage it sends you to that VH.. 2.3.1 ZClasses problem with QSurvey - createInObjectManager now returns _getob(i.id) vs. _getob(id)

Hi I am trying to figure out why QSurvey fails to add new instances to its RESULTS folder in Zope 2.3.1. The problem seems to be that createinObjectManager has changed its return value from folder._getOb(id) to folder._getOb(i.id) The note in the source says that this is change is about IOBTree ids, of which I have no experience. I am getting "unsliceable object" errors. I am adding a ZClass to a ZClass descended from ZObject and ZObjectManager. I see I did not descend this from Folder. Is this the problem? -- Jim Washington

ZServer on Windows 2000 w/Apache issue

OK I have been trying to figure out why this keeps happening but the Zope server seems to run fine for a day and slow to a crawl as the day goes by. This happens to the point that I have to restart the Zope server. This works fine till the server gets hit with heavy traffic or as a day grows on and it slows down again. What can i do to optimize the server so this wont happen? It gets so bad that even just Apache served sites slow down also. This only happens with our main Zope install. This runs our primary site. It has the most stuff in it using ODBC to connect to access databases and some MySQL activity is happening on the server also. The Python process for this server is only utilizing only about 50% of the processor recourses but this is steady. It also climbs up to 200K+ in memory usage. I am more than willing to answer any questions you may need to help me figure out what is going on here. TIA Sherwood

Z SQL method - how to get hold of the returning results

Heloo, I have a small problem - I don't how to get hold of the results from a Z SQL method. I have a method that returns a number to be inserted in my database. The code looks like this: SELECT 1+max(ordernum) AS next_num FROM playlistclips WHERE playlistid=<dtml-var showid> I have tested the code and it works. Apache SubFolder to Zope root folder using VirtualHostMonster

I am having trouble getting VirtualHostMonsters to work for my configuration (or at least to my liking). What I want to do is have a a URL with a specific subfolder that is sent to my Apache server passed to the root directory of my ZServer using ProxyPass. For example, I want to have my Apache server proxy www.foo.com/zope requests to the root folder of my Zope installation. The httpd.conf line in question is: ProxyPass /zope http://www.foo.com:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.foo.com:80/Vi rtualHostRoot/ This successfully lands me in the Zope root directory, but URLs generated by Zope are missing the /zope/ part of the path. The Virtual Host Monster documentation has an example for what I am trying to do that looks like this: ProxyPass /zope http://www.foo.com:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.foo.com:80/Vi rtualHostRoot/_vh_zope When I hit the URL www.foo.com/zope, however, I get an error indicating that the object _vh_zope could not be found. So it is not appending /zope/ to my host base URL like I thought it would. Am I trying to use this feature correctly? Does this feature exists? Searching these archives I found mention of someone trying to do this a couple months ago, and the response was that VirualHostPaths would be added in the future, so I thought that this might be that feature. I was using SiteRoots to accomplish this before, but some products, like ZWiki, didn't honor them, and I was starting to special case too many products in my ProxyPass configuration. I want a way to simply rewrite every incomming URL into the ZServer with a base of http://www.foo.com/zope. Any help would be appreciated! -Lars Holmstrom

zope anywhere near aol server?

Scenario: Let's say you've got an application that uses aol server and the razor extensions to it. Most of the code is done with TCL, some C. The app is fairly dynamic and is setup in a clustered environment behind a cisco content switch. Is there anyway to improve on, or match, the performance of a system like this but substituting Zope for aol server? Has anyone done any performance comparisons of Zope to aol server? Does Zope even come close? Would Zeo have a better chance? Do you think putting squid (or apache, or aol) in front of Zope would bring it closer to this setup, or would this be more of a hassle than it's worth in a clustered environment? What about mod_backhand? Could this be used in anyway to help improve zope's performance? Has anyone thought of dropping medusa and trying to integrate zope into a web server like aol/apache? Whew, Is this a lot of questions or what?
