[FEATURE REQUEST] comment at the top of DTML Methods and Documents

Hi, I think that putting an HTML comment at the top of DTML Methods and DTML Documents just like the one at the top of Python Scripts would be VERY useful. (at the bottom it would be useful too, I really don't care) This comment would just give the object meta-type and the preferred object id. This would allow for ZShell, and possibly other products or external software, to dump (ZShell's dump command) and restore objects (ZShell's wget command) transparently: Say I dump a DTML Method, it's saved as pure DTML source, because I just write the document_src() output to an external file. Now I reload it into the ZODB using the wget command, which in fact uses the mime type to determine what object type to create: There's a problem because it's impossible to differentiate a DTML Method from a DTML Document, because both are detected with the same mime type: text/html So I think such a comment would help when importing objects into the ZODB in unusual ways (not from the ZMI). I've not yet tried using webdav or ftp with Zope, but I suppose this would help there too. Any comments ? If you don't agree, please could you explain why ? Thanks in advance. Jerome Alet

I realize that Zope doesn't save the tree state, but that the browser does, sorry I wasn't clearer. The problem is that we have many pages generating what appears to the user to be the same tree, which of course it isn't. I'm using Yihaw, which gives me a 'Yihaw Folder' class that has an index_html containing this code (I root the tree at BASE3 because that's where all the Yihaw folders start living): <dtml-tree expr="REQUEST.resolve_url(BASE3)" branches_expr="objectValues('Yihaw Folder')" nowrap="1" sort="title"> <a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"> <img src="/Images/FolderIcon.gif" border="0"> <b><dtml-var title_or_id></b> </a> </dtml-tree> A user hits /folder1, generates a tree, modifies the tree state and gets a cookie. Then he hits one of the links above, goes to /folder1/folder2, generates a new tree, but with the state saved in the cookie. If he modifies the tree state yet again, does he get a new cookie, obliterating the previous tree state, or does the same cookie get modified, saying "for page /folder1/index_html the tree state is 'x', for page /folder1/folder2/index_html the tree state is 'y'?" My users seem to expect that they can return to a page and have whatever tree state they "saved" on that page reappear, and reading what you just wrote, I don't think that's true, is it? Obviously, it isn't happening, but it _appears_ (key concept!) that it is happening at some times and not others, and I'm trying to find out if it _can't_ happen, or if I did something wrong. One observation is that web based editing is not user-friend. "Time-out" will be very inconvient to users. WEBDAV might provide a better solution. It will be convient to have a MS-WORD object which can expose section, page, paragraph, etc as its sub-object. It does not solve the problem of versioning and edit conflict yet. Pulling cvs into the scene is very suitable, but you have the train the users to work with it. In a lower service level, you may consider looking documents and record the current owner. When a protected document is requested by another user, his request will be refused and he can check the system to see who is working on it. You may also put a unlock machenism periodically say for a lock can only hold for one week and the system will unlock the document and sent the lock owner a email about it. Rgs. Kent Sin

Why no properties, just views for objects on win32 Zope 2.3.2?

Comrades, I've just installed win32 Zope 2.3.2 as a service on NT 2000 Pro(and I also manually started it on Win 98). Problem is when I click on an object like "standard_html_header" in the management interface, I just get the view of the object, not it's properties. No tabs, no opportunity to manipulate the object, just the rendered page as though I'd clicked on the view tab. Everything works normally on my linux box, so what's up with Win32 Zope? Any ideas? Thanks Loren - I installed both of them yesterday, which is what started me down this path. I *really* like DocumentLibrary. I didn't see anything in either product for actually editing the document from within the library though. (It's quite possible that I missed it - I'm just beginning to work with them) We will be using DocumentLibrary to archive past RFP's. Thank you Kaivo for some great tools! What I think I'm looking for really feels like a Zope app. I'm probably just not aware of the full capabilities of tools like cmf, ZWiki, DocumentLibrary/MSWordMunger, XML, etc. I'm sure it's in there somewhere ;-) Am I on the right path thinking that ZWiki will be the way to edit this text online (without using the Zope Management Interface?) We're trying to avoid the "download - edit - upload" process. I'll check the conversion output from MSWordMunger and let you know about your <h#> observation. MySQLdb-0.9.0c2 and ZMySQLDA-2.0.7b1 co-release

The final (I hope) candidate release for MySQLdb-0.9.0 is out. I hope to push out the real 0.9.0 some time next week. In addition, ZMySQLDA-2.0.7b1 is also out. It needs MySQLdb-0.9.0, if you hadn't already guessed. I'd also like to do a 2.0.7 release next week as well. I'd appreciate some testing and feedback, even if it's just "Worked fine for me". Please notify me of any bad behavior. Summary of major changes: MySQLdb: Is now a true package format. This results in some minor incompatibilities with earlier versions, though if you stick with using the DB API, you shouldn't have to change anything. If you are creating your own type converters or special cursors, then you might need to make a few changes. Fully documented in the source for use with pydoc (in Python 2.1). The external documentation has been expanded to include some instructive examples. With the release of MySQL-Max (the binary package with BDB and InnoDB table support), I have been able to do some real testing with transactions, and everything looks ok. Binary packages for Python 1.5.2 and 2.1 are available (tarball and RPM). ZMySQLDA: Most of the updates are behind the scene so that it will work with 0.9.0. A + or - at the beginning of the connection string will now either force transactions on or off. It tries to return INTEGER columns as Python integers; if this fails (i.e. column is really UNSIGNED INT), they are returned as longs. This eliminates the trailing L's for the most part, even though this should not be an issue with Zope 2.4 since it uses Python 2.1, which does not add the L on str(). Note that if you are using a pre-compiled Zope binary package, you will need to relocate MySQLdb so that Zope's Python interpreter can find it. Tree tag cookie questions

At exactly what point does Zope send a cookie for the tree tag? It seems that it does so when the user expands or contracts the tree, but am I right about that? And does Zope save tree state for each and every page visited, if they all have a tree? In multiple cookies, or just one big cookie it keeps modifying? Is there perhaps a limit somewhere to how many tree states Zope can save for a single session? Obviously, I'm having trouble with the tree tag behavior, but I might figure it out on my own if I can get some of these answers. Thanks. Thanks Philippe - I had a hunch that xml would be a possibility here. I haven't worked with XML yet, so I'm not sure how to make that work. (But I'm a quick learner, and I can see the weekend from here ... ;-) Any hints on how to edit an xml node online? Give ":Record" modifier in forms access to python scritps [newbie]

Hello, After a ten-times reading of the zopebook part about ":record" modifier that can be used in html form in order to have records available for scripting, I still can't understand how to use them.
