I am talking about being able to synchronize two sites, or just parts of them automatically, and I think that it needs to be more flexible than RSS. What I want is that if I write an article on my site, my site will call other sites that has me in a "syndication list", and then they will somehow decide whether they want to publish my article. If they do want to publish it my site will be notified. When somebody writes a comment on my site it will automatically be sent on to the sites syndicating the article. When somebody writes a comment on a site syndicating my article it will be sent to my site, that will then send it on to other syndicatés and so forth. That way it will not matter which site you post an article or a comment to they will all be synchronized. Imagine if all Zope sites could do that. That would be very powerfull for special interrest groups where each local group or individual could have their own site, and they could automatically publish the content of their own or other like minded persons/groups and vice versa. regards Max M

Apache ProxyPass and VirtualHostMonster

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get virtual hosting going with a VirtualHostMonster. For example, I want /spam to be at spam.foo.org. Did anyone else get the following message? I got it twice and am really fucking pissed off! Since when did DC start spamming people? I hope this new CEO isn't going to mark DC becoming a bunch of commercial arseholes who think this is a way to communicate with people. why can zope not handle large files

For a project we are working on we have export of an MS Access database as csv (comma seperated) files. The csv file is about 37MB with rows of 18 numbers sepearted by commas. The file has been uploaded into Zope and then we are trying to insert each row into a PostgreSQL database using either the PoPy or PsycoPG database adapter. Basically Zope never comes back from trying to do this. We have also tested against Oracle with the same results. It's been run on an Athlon 600 and a Sun E450. Zope just starts to take up more and more memory eventually filling up swap and never completing the transaction. If we split the 37MB file up into small 3-4MB chunks, everything works fine. But it just can't handle the larger file. To me, 37MB doesn't seem like much. If it were .5GB, I could understand Zope having problems. How can I get this to work? I am not on the zope list (though I'll probably subscribe here in a moment) so please CC me on a reply. Thanks, -Chris

simple workflow system

Hi everyone, I'm working on a project and I'd like to implement a simple workflow system. There would be "reviewers," "contributors," and anonymous visitors would be able to submit content too. Should I: 1. Have the item cataloged after it is reviewed and approved. (I believe this is how Zope.org functions.) 2. Catalog everything, but have a property called "published" that only the reviewers can set and use Zope's security mechanism to prevent viewing unpublished content for anonymous visitors. 3. Use the CMF. 4. Something else My concern about the CMF is that it seems to be an all-or-nothing package at this point. I really don't need the membership part of it because my site is 99.99% read-only. It's a small group of people creating the content. Pre-built Lego style interoperable modules that you can just install and then have them automagically work together on a site. If the module is there it shows up in the site structure, if it isn't, there is no trace of it. Oh yes ... and a smart way to syndicate stuff. As far as I can see soon we will all have our own personal portal for various reasons. (Big ego's being one). At the same time I see all the major portals crosslinking excessively to each other. All off them having their own articles and discussions around one "source" article. It ought to be easy to be a syndicator of both articles and comments, so that articles and comments from several sites will be synchronized automagically. And while we are at it we should make it easy for all Zope products to do this. Calendars would also be easily sync'able then. Well anyway ... I am currently planning/building both of the above, I'll get back when the code is sound. Regards Max M

thread safety

Hi, In the ZShell external method I've written, I've got some code which does the shell globbing for wildcards using the glob.glob module after having redirected some methods from the os module to my own, e.g. : --- CUT --- oldlistdir = os.listdir os.listdir = mylistdir ... glob.glob(...) ... os.listdir = oldlistdir ... --- CUT --- So my question is: is this code thread safe, wrt to other Zope threads accessing the os module methods while they are redirected to mine ? I don't want other Zope threads to access my own methods, just the current one. If it is not thread safe, then how can I do it another way ? Thanks in advance. Jerome Alet - alet(a)unice.fr

Problem using SQL Example from the Zope Book

Hi there, I try to build the examples given in chapter 10 When I try to access a ZSql method passing it a parameter like this http://localhost:8080/employee_by_id/emp_id/42 where the parameter name is emp_id and the value 42 I get a "not found" traceback I have to use http://localhost:8080/employee_by_id/manage_test?ClientID=12 why does it not work like the Book sugests? thanks for your time Robert
