ZClasses (Folders or just ObjectManager?)

I'm trying to determine if I am carrying around extra baggage by subclassing Folder in my ZClasses instead of just ObjectManager. It seems that ObjectManager would do just fine since I create my own propertysheets anyway. Is there an advantage to NOT using Folder? Speed? Memory consumption? Setting a Cookie

Hey all, I'm trying to set a cookie. Simple right? hehe - if so, then I wouldn't be here. ;-) Ok, I have the syntax in front of me. I have this bit of code to set the cookie: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setCookie('CookieMonster', '458468')"> All is well when I save the dtml document and when I run the page. The problem - the cookie isn't set! Now I remember this problem when I worked with ASP. It turns out that you had to set an expire date also (although they said that if you didn't, the cookie expires when you close the browser and nothing gets written to the client machine.) That would be good - IF ONLY I COULD ACCESS THE INFORMATION I SET. Sorry 'bout that. But it's fustrating to see this problem come up again with another language. So I set an expire date. But, get this, now it fails when the page is loaded. The error message says that the method expected three parameters, but received four. Do you see four parameters here? <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setCookie('CookieMonster', '458468', 'Sunday 20-05- 2001 12:00:00 GMT')"> I initially had a comma between Wdy, Date - because that is the DOCUMENTED syntax, but this seems incorrect also. Here's the error message: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: too many arguments; expected 3, got 4 Any suggestions? Proven code would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Tommy

return object from script

Hi, my python script returns an array of dictionaries, like: [{'num':1, 'letter':'a'},{'num':2, 'letter':'b'}] in a dtml-document I try to print these values: <dtml-in "script(param=param)"> <dtml-var num><br><dtml-var letter> </dtml-in> This results in a key error. How do I have to return the values to make the dtml-code work? I know <dtml-var "_['sequence-item']['num']"> works, but I want<dtml-var num> to work. Hi Chris, Chris and fellow Zopers, I promised an update on the Automatic Cataloging example in the Zope book, but I was offline for a few days. Sorry for that. So here it is: I had the same problem when I tried the example from the book (even the final version). Also, I used a non-standard name (say myCatalog) for the ZCatalogue, and in this way introduced another problem: The example in the book only works with the standard named Catalog: "Catalog". Finally, the book forgets to add the new properties to the default input form for the newly created newsitem. So, take the following steps. 1. Modify the NewsItem_addForm dtml-method, by adding input fields for the content, author and date properties. You do want to be able to put some newsthings in the new NewsItem. 2. Modify the standard <dtml-with ...> tag in the NewsItem_add dtml-method: <dtml-with "NewsItem.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['id'], REQUEST)"> <dtml-call "manage_editCataloger('myCatalog')"> <dtml-call "propertysheets.News.manage_editProperties(REQUEST)"> <dtml-call reindex_object> </dtml-with> **manage_editCataloger('myCatalog') tells the newsitem constructor which Catalog is to be used to index the newsitem. When you omit this line, the name of the catalog used, will default to "Catalog". **propertysheets.News.manage_editProperties(REQUEST) writes the values from the manage_addForm newsitem properties, to the newly created newsitem; **reindex_object tells the catalogue to re-index this newsitem. Why is this nessecary? Because when the newsitem is constructed, it is auto-added to the catalog, but at that stage, the properties do not contain the addForm data yet: take a look at the first few lines of the manage_afterAdd method in CatalogAwareness.py: def manage_afterAdd(self, item, container): self.index_object() .... etcetera This should do the trick. However, it seems unlogical to me that we should reindex a catalogaware class, on creation of a new item. Would'nt it make more sense, that the cataloging takes place, only after the properties take their initial values? Greetings to all, Antwan. "Object does not support this operation"

Hello everyone. I have a web page with a member base. When people wish to become "New" members, they mearly fill out the join form, and click ok. This goes into a folder called member_lists/profiles/ and clones a dtml-document called blank_sheet, and then modifies the properties of this clone to match the new information inputted by the user. However, when I submit the join (this had worked previously, but once we had updated the join form, it ceased working. On our other test page as well, which is strange since we didn't update that.) it gives me a "Object blank_sheet does not support this operation" error. The join form submits its data to submit_join, which does all the work. I also have a java script running for the fourm, which checks to make sure all the fields are filled in, but that is on join_form, not submit_join, so I don’t think that’s it (don’t see why it would be either). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

CMFTopic problem, passing args in DTML, or just brain damage?

If I create a CMFTopic in the root called 'list', why does this work: http://servername.com/list?Subject=something ...giving me whatever my criterion is, narrowed by matching Subject='something' ...when calling the thing in DTML: list(_.None,_,Subject='something') doesn't seem to recognize the parameter? (and, I've tried many variations, wrapping with a dtml-with, passing 'list' instead of _ or _.None, passing a dict {'Subject':'something'}, all the same result) what am I missing?
