Zope offers three levels of Python support: - Through-the-web code (DTML expressions, PythonScripts) have access to a restricted set of the Python library; consider the potential for harm, for instance, in exposing the 'sys' or 'os' modules to untrusted users. You can selectively extend the modules exposed to TTW code (PythonScripts only in 2.3x; all TTW code in 2.4) by "decorating" them with ModuleSecurityInformation assertions; see the README in the PythonScript product for a how-to. - External methods have access to the full library, but can't create new persistent classes (because the pickling machinery won't be able to find them). - Filesystem-based Python produts are "da bomb"; they can do anything (including modify the set of modules visible to TTW code, perform hotfix patches to code in the Zope core, etc.). Given your Pythonic bent, I recommend investigating the last option. Importing zexps doesn't work, same error for all. Help?

I have assembled several zexp archives in my import directory, and I'm trying to import them as products on my Zope2.3.2 running on win2k. Directory of C:\Program Files\WebSite\import 139,532 ZopeTutorialExamples.zexp 112,995 nolabox.zexp 17,162 FormulatorExamples.zexp 27,801 gdchartdemo.zexp 40,520 IForum.zexp 4,838 magictree.zexp 382,870 DemoLocalForum.zexp 45,399 TimeTracker.zexp 235,283 WikiForum.zexp With the exception of Iforum, they all do almost the same thing. Tutorial prod has 'open box' icon, others have 'closed box' what's the difference?

Just a simple question as I navigate the learning curve of Zope. I followed the tutorial on creating the simple, searchable "JobBoard" product. http://www.zope.org/Members/mukhsein/job_board_howto And its icon in 'products' has what looks like an 'open box', while the others, built-ins and imports, have a closed box icon. What is that telling me, that I haven't set a distribution policy on my created JobBoard yet? Thanks

Problems with Zope and SQL methods

Hello all, I have recently upgraded and moved a zope server to 2.3.2. This has proved a difficult task as we are using it to access an intranet database running on Postgresql back end. Whenever a query is run where an oid is returned it hangs the ZServer and core dumps. eg select * from people OR select p.oid, p.name from people p This can be avoided by setting the type as follows. select p.oid::int, p.name from people p However the following will still cause a core dump select p.oid::int, p.* from people p. I have noticed that others have been having similar problems but not seen any solutions on this list. I am using the following ZPoPyDA 1.2 ZSQLMethods 1.2.1 and quite a lot else. postgres 7.1-1 for reference. Thanks, Neil McIntosh IT Manager Sentec Ltd.

ZPublisher / External Methods / Product API - 3 different ways to do python using Zope (or portions thereof). What more does one need? I guess I don't understand why not just build your classes, and wrap them using the Python product API? Everything you do in python is thinly wrapped in a bit of management, allowing for to be persistence. If you don't want/like/need that, just use ZPublisher to publish objects from your classes instead of a complete Zope - you lose persistence, but if you have no need for it... If one wanted to do something really strange, one could write code that used the ZODB outside of Zope, and use ZPublisher to publish it.. oh wait, I think that's been done before... :) If your code is not really OO, I think there might be something out there like Python server pages, or something equally as dilute, but external methods are still an easier concept, IMHO... ZPublisher might buy you what you are looking for, though I have to say, personally, that OOP without an object database now seems like Cola without fizz and caffeine to me - either that, or someone has been secretly adding addictive substances to the Zope releases - i.e. acquisition, not to mention that extra caffeine ;) ... DocumentLibrary FileConverter / pdf.py problem (write to /tmp)

I wanted to say, so far, DocumentLibrary seems to be a wonderful product - very useful, organized, and looks very easy to customize - I'm impressed. I am, however, having a bit of a problem... I installed DocumentLibrary on Zope 2.3.2 the other day. I have a problem with the PDF conversion, though I have verified the pdftotext works properly on all my files. I commented out in pdf.py the code to delete the file in /tmp, so I could do a diff on the output with the original PDF - but I didn't need to: the file sizes were radically different: www:/tmp# ls -l *pdf* -rw-r--r-- 1 www-data www-data 123512 Jun 1 20:34 pdf_tmp_991452845.246 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 320120 Jun 2 16:26 text.pdf ...where text.pdf is a copy of the original. Hexdump output shows these files to be identical, just that the pdf being dumped out of Zope on to the fs seems to be truncated abruptly. I've used several PDFs generated from different sources. My config is the binary package install of Zope on Debian using the 2.3.2-2 deb under Debian unstable/intel, using nothing fancy in the setup... wvWare/word converter works fine, I tested several differnt packages and source installs for xpdf, and all worked fine (this was before I realized that this wasn't a pdftotext issue)... www-date (the user Zope runs as on Debian) has write privileges to /tmp, and the file starts to write out there part way; what might prevent the pdf.py code from fully writing the file to /tmp from the ODB? Any thoughts might be appreciated... Sean P.S. I am interested in possibly contributing effort to write / integrate other sorts of document/file converters into DocumentLibrary. Problems with ZCatalog

I have created a ZCatalog, but whenever I try to access the 'Catalog' view in the management interface of the ZCatalog, I get en error message: Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Hello, I just checked out a copy of the zope core and installed it. Z2.log wrong time stamps

Hi all: I have been searching around and since about 1 year ago there are posts regarding systems where the Z2.log date stamps are wrong. I have not been able to find a definite answer/solution to this issue. I am running now Zope 2.3.2 with the hotfix 2001-05-01 installed, the problem of the wrong dates on the Z2.log is still there. I saw that someone even runs, at a later time, his logs through a script to correct the wrong time/date stamps. My case is as follows: I have Zope running behind Apache with pcgi all is working perfectly fine. The following line is the Apache log: 62.82.123.115 - - [02/Jun/2001:12:44:44 -0500] "GET /piensa/dir_foros/Principiantes/989360989/index_html HTTP/1.1" 200 10557 This is the line on Z2 for the object that was served by Zope 127.0.0.1- - [02/jun/2001:17:44:44 -0500] "GET /piensa/dir_gaceta/piensa/dir_foros/Principiantes/989360989/index_html" 200 10678 You can see the correct time is on the Apache log (02/Jun/2001:12:44:44 -0500]) but the Zope one has an 5 hour difference. I see no current relation to using GMT / UTC times with Zope. All my systems are running either Red Hat Linux 6.1, 6.2 or 7.x all with the same symptoms regarding this problem. Has anyone detected this problem in your system? Has it been solved? How? Hope to get some feedback this time. Felipe Barousse

passive FTP in Zope

Hi all, Is it possible to use passive FTP with the Zope builtin FTP server? I'm behind a firewall that only allows passive ftp, and having lots of problems to use Emacs to edit a remote Zope site. Cheers, Arkaitz.
