Can I *add* to the roles a user has?

Hi all, I'm authenticating against a database using UserDB and getting the roles 'Staff' and 'Student'. They can only have the one role from this database. I need to then *add* to these roles by looking up in another database (I can't easily edit the first database). For example, User = 'tone', authentication with first database gives the role 'Staff'. Then I look up in another database and find that 'tone', using the system 'eGuides' has the additional roles 'Admin' and 'Reviewer' (no, we're not using CMF - unfortunately :( How can I do this multiple lookup to end up with user 'tone' having the roles 'Staff, Admin, Reviewer'? There doesn't seem to be anything remotely like 'addRole' in the API or the AccessControl directory. Am I using the wrong system for my authentication perhaps? Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Zope vs Kylix?

This is not to start a religious war or anything like it and this is probably not the right list to post this too. I am a zope developer who as most of us fell in luv with zope then python. My luck in running out as I am being driven to use kylix instead of zope for web developement. I have heard kylix is good for cross platform application developement but slacks in web apps. I have seen the codes in kylix n oh wow man from the surface it looks like zope is so much simplier. Personally I choose zope over kylix but I need a comparison of some sort to maybe prolong my stay in the zope realm. thanx, archer

vanishing tabs

I am starting to use ZClasses for the first time and I have noticed some funny behaviour with the tabs. I am finding that they are not all always visible in the management screens. I have subclassed a container object, and separately a DTML Document. In both cases, if I create a property sheet and add it to the views, then go to the management area and create an instance of these objects, I loose some of the other tabs when I click on the property sheet that I created. On the DTML Document it is the Edit tab that vanishes, in the Folderish object it is the contents tab that disappears. Is this expected behaviour or have I done something wrong? If you are creating a structured template, you might want to create a product using a ZClass. I did something very similar. BBEdit irritation

When editing zope source with BBEdit (on OSX), every time I switch to the browser(to see the changes I've made) and return to BBEdit, BBEdit thinks the file is un-editable. I hit a key, a dialog pops up, saying the file might or might not be editable, I carry on and everything works. Is this something to do with aquired permissions? any ideas anyone? tom

ODBC Test Queries

Not sure how many use the feature but I do all the time. The ODBC Test window. Recently, not sure when it started, but when I execute a generic select statement, and the are more that 25 results, I get the link at the bottom for the next batch. However, the query' is not getting passed to this link and so I do not actually get the next set. Instead I get an error stating the obvious - 'query' was not defined. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks Allen
