External Method limits

Hi: I am working through the section of the Zope Book on External Methods (chapter 8: Advanced Zope Scripting -- http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/ScriptingZope.dtml -- Secton: Using External Methods) There is an example there which uses PIL that I am having some trouble with. I'm stuck getting Zope to start on boot RH7

subject really says it all. From the command line, in /etc/init.d/ I can execute a script called zope which starts Zope properly (I can see it with ps -ef). Using Control Panel, I've placed zope in the start and stop places properly, and upon boot, there is a message that Zope has been started (OK), but ps -ef tells me that this is not so, i.e., it's been stopped somehow. Can someone suggest things I should do? I got this going on RH6, on a sparc machine, but this is a i386 machine and a slightly higher level of RH. Thanks Carl David david(a)uconnvm.uconn.edu

Converting a string into an object?

Hey, here's a situation. services (folder) | |- editable (folder) | | | |- annual (folder) | | | |- Editable_body (method) | | | |- register (folder) | | | |- Editable_body (method) | |- admin (folder) | |- Admin_selectSection (method) |- Admin_editContent (method) Admin_selectSection contains a form that asks a user what section they want to edit. <form action="Admin_editContent"> Select a section to edit: <br><br> <select name="sectionId" size="1"> <dtml-with editable> <dtml-in objectValues> <option value="<dtml-var id>"><dtml-var title></option> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> </select> <br><br> <input type="submit" name="submit" value=" Edit this Section "> </form> Now, Admin_editContent receives this info and should build a form that shows the title and text of the Editable_body method. This should function pretty much like the ZMI. The problem is that I can't seem to access the Editable_body method. In fact, if I were to put in: <dtml-in objectValues><dtml-var id><br></dtml-in> I get a list of the folders inside 'editable', and NOT what I expected - a list of what is contained within the folder 'annual'. ( or 'register' - depending on which was selected previously). If I were to print out the form variable: <dtml-var expr="REQUEST.form['sectionId']"> I get 'annual', but it's a string. So, I guess I need to convert it to an object BEFORE my objectValues will work?? And, if that is the case, how do I do that? Is there some sort of restore method that I could use? print results from a datrabase query

I am trying to query a field in a database then print the output in both an email and an html file. Controlling rotating_file_logger launch time

Hello, I tried the example from the book [exhibit=anotherFolder.manage_clone(thisFolder.ThreadMuster,'name')], slightly changed. I 'd like to copy the cloned_object to another folder. But Zope 2.3.2 gives a name error . He can't find anotherFolder. Zope and Interbase : gvibDA

Hi, I am new to Zope, and I am just in the "experiments" step of my learning path. I use Zope 2.3.2, Python 2.0 and Windows 98. I would like to connect Zope to Interbase 6.0, and I have found the gvib Database Adapter package on http://www.zope.org/Members/bkc/gvibDA/gvibDA-0.9.6.tar.gz The problem is that I cannot use it ! How can I get an"Interbase Connection" from the "add" list in Zope ? Where should I put the files included in the package ? I have read the instructions which come with it, but still I do not understand;do I have to "compile" it ? I thought the "binaries" where included with the .zip files; if not, where can I get a "pre-compiled" version of it ? Thanks in advance, Fabrizio

Sorta a fixed runaround

RE: My last post. :) I have a friend who set me up with zope and he took a look at my problem and came up with this fix for the zope ZopeZoo tutorial: <ul> <dtml-with ZopeZoo> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('Folder')"> <li><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a><br></li> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> </ul> That's in the 'navigation' object. Now, it works. But, why didn't it say that in the tutorial? Is this something new in Zope that has to be done? Can somebody enlighten me as to this thing, please? :) Thanks, Nat. :)
