variable SQL statements

Hey everyone! I'm working on a strange database project, and I've run into a little stumbling block. Thought I'd bounce this off the group and see if there's any workarounds... my goal: build a SQL statement that will create a table with a name provided by an external method. -- my first attempt | this is the contents of a sql method -- CREATE TABLE <dtml-sqlvar tablename type=nb>_<dtml-sqlvar tabletype type=nb> ( testfield VARCHAR(75) ) ------------------------ But when it gets rendered, the variables get quoted. =( So, I found jPenny's Variable SQl statement how-to, and tried using it instead: -- my second attempt | this is the contents of a sql method -- <dtml-var "sqltablecall"> ------------------------ -- this is the contents of an external method -- mastertablename = "somename_standardtable" sqltablecall = "CREATE TABLE " + mastertablename + " ( testfield VARCHAR(75) )" self.SQL_create_master_table(sqltablecall=sqltablecall) ------------------------ This returns a "bad request" error... Apparently the variable cannot be passed directly like this..?? My questions: Is there a way to disable quoting in SQLvars? OR, how do I go about adding the sqltablecall variable into the request (which I'm assuming is where it's looking). Thanks for any ideas! -ed-

Hi there, I'm stil trying to build my personal Folder product, let's call it "minimal" (ok, ok, I'm working on tutorials :-) I was trying to subclass ObjectManager, but then I've been told to subclass Folder insted since it subclasses ObjectManager itself (and it does, i checked). I'm still trying to give my product a "Folder" feel, that is, I want to be able to click on in and "enter" it, and see what's inside it (that is the standard Content view of a folder). Now what happens is this: let my "minimal" object id be "abc", and let it be contained by the "Test" folder. when I click on it the url becomes http://.../Test/abc so it looks like I'm inside it, but I still see the "Test" folder content, that is I still see the "abc" object. In other words it looks like if the "abc" object contains itself. If I click on it again the url becomes http://.../Test/abc/abc and then abc/abc/abc and so on. Why can't I "see" inside it and can't put other objects in it? Should I include something special? Should I put something particular in the manage_options? ObjectManager question.

Hi people, I just started playing with python products, and I have a question that I can't seem to solve: I have a class derived from ObjectManager, how do I create a "Contents" tab, so that it looks like a folder and lets the user put other objects in it? What do I have to put in the manage_options? I guess there is something already defined for this, but I can't find it in the docs. Thanks!!!! |G|

Hi all, Base classes are specified when creating new ZClass. How can I discover what Base classes was a ZClass created with? How can I change Base ZClasses (without deleting and recreating a ZClass)? -- Milos Prudek

is there a dtml-with convenience tag ?? or equivalent syntax

Is there a one liner that looks something like this? <dtml-call "foo.bar(something)"> **see below ed.-please dont take offense to my simple thinking I am constantly writing "<dtml-with foo><dtml-var bar></dtml-with>" just to get one(1) method from an object. As I am getting into content categories using zClasses, I am now writing many... **<dtml-with foo> --usually the category/folder with zClasses <dtml-with bar> --the specific zClass <dtml-var something> --the method to execute from the specific zclass </dtml-with> </dtml-with> I am searching for a simpler way to do this... Thanks for feedback, (or reality) Trevor
