Setting the domain with setCookie and **kw?

To show I am trying. ;) I found this old post below that still leaves me with some Q's. How do you format setCookie to control the domain that is referenced? example: setCookie auto-sets the subfolder address, www.domain.com/sub1/sub2 BUT I want to set the cookie for the root URL without the sub-domain (www). example: .domain.com is what I want to write in the cookie to share across sub-domains. What is **kw? in setCookie(name, value, **kw) It is referenced many times in Appendix B: Zope Book. Useful options are: - expires this should be set to a date/time in the Future, where the cookie is to be expired (hence the name ;) The format is Wdy, DD-Mon-YYYY HH:MM:SS GMT, so you might want to use DateTime().strftime() here. - path At least if you set "expires" you should send a path (minimum /) from which the cookie should work. Otherwise it gets not stored for old Netscape versions and a few proxies (Novell Bordermanager[tm] is known to behave like this) - domain The domain for which the cookie has to be send for each request. This defaults to the exact hostname of the server. - secure you can specify this with secure='' to get the browser sending it only over ssl. HTH Tino Wildenhain

Distributed development question

Hey Zopistas, Here's a simple-but-profound question for you. I have a project that I am putting up on sourceforge, for a web-based hours/expenses tracking system in Zope and MySQL. In any other environment this would be easy, especially the integration with CVS. But Zope and ZODB shoots this reality squarely in the head... So how do I do the CVS-distributed development in the Zope world? I do not have access to a publicly-accessible Zope server, so publishing all code on sourceforge is my intent. Please say I don't have to export all methods, folders and DTML one at a time! Or worse, check zope.zexp into cvs! D'oh!

Zope installed but cannot "manage" it

Actually i *think* that Zope is installed properly: cheetahusa.net/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi launches the Zope Quick Start page. (And running phpinfo on a site says that it's "powered by Zope") Trying to get into the management module produces: ============================= "Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. The system is an Alpha running FreeBSD 4.3-release. (all pieces were installed from the ports collection) including: zope-2.4.0_1, python-2.1.1, mod_fastcgi-2.2.10, mod_php3-3.0.18_2, mod_php4-4.0.6_4, mysql-server-3.22.32, apache-1.3.20. Some of the web directories are using .htaccess. I have installed, reinstalled, broken and re-reinstalled various elements without stumbling onto success. In case it makes a difference, Apache is running name virtual hosts (4 of 'em). I used zpasswd to generate a new master pw -- also tried directly editing the 'access' file (is there a difference?). The user ID matches an .htaccess authorized user so that ought not be a problem. Please, what am I missing here? Thanks, craig

Paul, One suggestion that I might make is to consider rewriting your queries dynamically to be more to your liking before querying them in ZCatalog. As an example, the following python class method (below) is a utility method that I use to rewrite queries using the re regex library. This is called via <dtml-call> to rewrite the query in REQUEST right before <dtml-in Catalog> is called... You could very likely do something similar for writing in "default" boolean operators or quotes like Dieter suggests, supposing you wanted to make such behavior an optional default. Of course, for some setups this wouldn't be very good default behavior, so that decision is left up to you as an application design choice... OK the problem is most likely the way you call the images from ZODB. I am a bit new at this, but generally python scripts see zope objects as string objects and not files. this means that you can't do 'file' things with them by default. You need to use the StringIO function to allow you to open the Zope object as if it were a file. I spent many angry hours working this out too. In the end I came up with this function (partly stolen from other places and partly mine). It should help you work it out. Catalog search problem

I have a problem when searching my catalog.It has an index called "Author" which holds the name of a person who wrote a document.when i search the catalog for say "paul dunbar",i will get documents from authors like "paul" or "paul test" as well as paul dunbar.what i want to do is limit the matches to "paul dunbar".i don't know python so i need to use a dtml method. what i have tried is to accept all the matches but before i output them on the screen,i check to see if the author name the user entered to search is the same as the one in the current item.this always fails because i am not sure how to compare the strings against one another.when i print both variables i.e the catalog one and the user one,the user one would be "paul dunbar" but the catalog would be ['paul dunbar'] so they don't match.any help would be appreciated, paul dunbar. _____________________________________ Get your free E-mail at http://www.ireland.com

Tree hierarchy problem with database

Hi, I have a problem with the tree tag. I want to show in the page a hierarchy with codes of a database. I've read in this page: http://www.zope.org/Members/anthony/tree-coding-tricks an example of how to do it but it doesn't work in my case. loginManager rackList is empty, but what about UserSource?

Hi folks, I am slowly, very slowly, getting comfortable with loginManager, but I've hit yet another snag, and I am too tired today so I'll just ask and hope for a kind soul to hep me out. ^ | -------- See, I am tired! I am in the process of adapting the example provided by dlpierson (thanks by the way), so I am using a skinscript and an external database (MySQL). In coming up with form based addition of new users, I figured might as well use newItem and the skinscript rather than calling SQL methods directly. But newItem complains, and I found out that the problem is that rackList is empty, but isn't UserSource a rack? Why isn't it in rackList? (In case someone asks, yes I do have a UserSource in the LoginManager, and it seems to work OK otherwise). Cheers, Jean
